Vol. 5 - Compilation of Traditional Folk & Sea Songs - (ft. Kick Up the Dust, Pyrates! & more)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 чер 2024
- This is a compilation of sea shanties and traditional folk music; all of which feature instrumental accompaniment.
For the most part, it is somewhat faster and more energetic than my previous compilations, but still uses traditional instruments such as violins and accordions.
I have added lyrics if you would like to sing along, which you can view by activating 'Subtitles/CC'.
Many thanks once again to all who have listened to my compilations over the last year or so.

The only one of the first five compilations to survive the copyright curse. No Davy Jones' locker for this one just yet
Normal people: *use lofi music to relax and study*
My mom entering in my room: are you studying?
Me, studying while listening to sea shanties: Yarrr.
I love that xD
yarrrr
Yeah, sher we're pirates. 🏴☠️
Are ye studying? son?
Irish parents: *starts jigging uncontrollably*
I learned one of my friends has nobody to listen to sea shanties with.
They're one of us now.
Long time ago I was visiting a nursing home in the US and there was a very old Irish gentleman sitting in his wheelchair. He had some form of dementia. He was singing his old Irish ballads, don’t know if it was sea shanties, but he didn’t miss a lick. Singing goes to a different part of the brain than talking (in case you didn’t know). 🧑🎤🎶He seemed petty happy at least for a while.
I've been a fisherman for over 20 years and and freight ship pilot as well.I feel sea shanties in me bones 😁.I now have 5 children (almost 50😉), and my two youngest girls, 3 and 4 dance every morning while I have my coffee and wake to the world! They love to dance and what better way to wake and start the day! Thanks C'apn!
You are blessed⚓
@@davedewitt18 Thank you, I am blessed.I thank God for all of it! Bless you brother, for confirmation and making my day that much brighter!
That’s awesome, I’ve only been able to fish and be on boats a few times in my life but I love the sea so hopefully when Im on my own I can find somewhere close to it
Good winds sir.
@ Jason Godwin God bless you ⚓️🪢
My brother, commercial fisherman for 48 years until his death in 2015, knew many Irish based sea songs, and lots of filthy ones too! Missing him every day! 😢❤❤❤
Hope he's at rest sailing the clouds o7
he is now in fiddlers green with a life like that O7
What a great find. Im a Newfoundlander, from a fishing village and loved Sea Shanties all my life. Living inland currently and this music is all that keeps me sane .
Keep listening my friend . Cheers !
We are born too late to explore the oceans, and we are born too early to explore space....
Boii. You missed the memo that we have mapped more of the surface of the moon than our own seafloors.
So explore the oceans all you want, as that is the field most lacking in knowledge.
We haven't even Conquered our Polar Regions, we have much to explore...
I know isn't that sad.
I miss my days at sea…the roaring waves the hot sun the salty air
I spent 11.5 years in the Navy. I had to get out due to some PTSD issues during my fifth tour in Vietnam. Prior to my service, I sailed on the ocean with my cousin. Since then, much of my life has centered on the water. I sail, kayak, and canoe. I'll keep paddling and sailing as long as my health and strength permit me to do so.
I spent 5 years at sea as a young man and these shanties and others really stir my blood and make me miss my time on the seas! Thanks!

When I was 8 I learned "What shall we do w/ the drunkin sailor". = a life long love of shanties & the like. Fell in love with groups like the Pogues. Married a Navy man... Yup you could say I am a lifer.
Firstly, thank you very much to all of you who have listened, liked, and commented so far. Really appreciated. Also, you'll be pleased to hear that Vol. 5 is now back online whilst the disputed claims are settled.
Unfortunately the same copyright holder has decided to file a copyright claim today against one of the songs featured in Vol.4, and has therefore blocked access to the video worldwide. I have disputed the claim, and hopefully that video will be reinstated as well.
(Edit) - Both volumes 4 & 5 are back online for now, until the disputed claims are fully settled :)
(Edit 2) - Unfortunately my dispute against the claims for Vol. 5 got rejected, and it is now back down again. Hopefully it may go back up at some point, but we'll have to wait and see.
I swear, I'm going to pursue violin now. Guitar has been my friend, but I shall traverse a new path.
Aw man that was my favourite, u have a song list?
@@LunarKolony Sure thing :) Hopefully the video will be back online within the next 48 hours (at least until the disputes are settled). Will let you know if it does go back up. Meanwhile, here's the tracklist

I'm so happy that Captain Kidd is in this one. Yet more groups to learn about!
Agreed :) Hearing Great Big Sea's version was actually my first time hearing Captain Kidd, and it is definitely an excellent song. I find it very impressive that a song written in 1701, and recorded in 2005, can fit seamlessly alongside other songs recorded years later :)
My english is far from perfect, i thought it was Captain Kirk 😅😅😅
Music straight from the soul. I weep for the beauty, but also the dirty fact that modern music cares not about story telling, not in the way that these tunes can strum the very core.
Was on a side trawlwer in the North Atlantic in a hurricane when she went under the tidal wave at 0330. The ship righted thank God.
Her name was the Sanbro, 85 footer.
She was cursed before we sailed.
The crew stayed drunk along with the Captain.
We sailed from Halifax into the storm to fill the hull with haddock.
The crew is all gone now.
Many were Newfoundlanders.
Good chaps they were.
I'm the only survivor for I was only 16 in 68.
Fourteen days out to sea, four hours on and four hour off.
Pirates were they all .
A star trailed the crescent moon which warned of the storm. But we sailed into it to fill the hull with only 30 tons of fish. 30 tons payed only 60 dollars minus 30 for the gear.
i listened to shantys before it was cool
me too lad
I feel that
Me too mate.. since the age of 6. Now I'm 28 years old.
Broke my shoulder last January, shanties got me through the recovery. It was really weird to see them become a big meme
Oh god its been jolly 3 years of just sea shanties

Coming from Montana, I dreamed of sailing the seas, as a kid. That film gave me a feeling similar to being lost in a Montana wilderness. On and on, with no sign of another human in sight. Feels good.
My heart especially goes out to the French and other engagee’s paddling the 36’ cargo canoes on the Great Lakes during the North American Fur Trade and going around portaging around the falls and rocks.
I love shanties regardless of fads, raising a glass to all who enjoy your time here.
Stop I can't escape the eternity :)
Been playing Sea of Thieves, so hooked on it! Listening to this as i sail!!
Sea Shanties have found a special place in my heart and tapping of my foot, since a watched the movie showing where the Shanties were part of the fishing in the area. The one in the movie was my favorite but I never could find the name of it! Some made me happy, some to dance and some brought tears and sense of loss. Love them all!!! Thank you so much!!
Hello dear how are you doing over there?
This song's rythm is smoother than my whole life.👍👍

I'm Ukrainian, but I love Irish songs too, they have soul.

Favorite shantys!
Какая роскошь! Оптимизм через край! Такая музыка скрасит однообразные будни и выведет из депрессии. Очень нравится. Спасибо!!!
These guys can sure pick a banjo!
Nothing better to listen to while building a model of the CSS Alabama.
Hello dear how are you doing over there?
Former Royal Navy here - loving these man.
Great folk music is timeless. Love the lyrics and stories. Thanks for sharing.
This is my favorite shanty playlist so far
I'm so glad this compilation has a Great Big Sea song in it although it's just one. Keep up the good work
I wish volumes 2 and 4 were still available, they had some of my absolute favourite songs, a shame they are gone!

Puts me right where I really want to be, in the middle of the ocean free as a bird just me and nature duking it out.
this might be my favorite vol of the sea shantie compilations
Love this. Thank you!
Love having this on while I get ready to go to work.
you are pumping these out.....good
I just stumbled upon you collections --- all fun songs (Capt Kidd is one of my favorites) -- but also astounded by all the great sea art you've found. Well done!
love the works man, keep it up
Thank you for this compilation
When a Great Big Sea song manages to be the low point of your compilation, that's how you know you have an AWESOME compilation.
Captain Kidd is a great song though. Every song here is good if you ask me.
@@danielfazly1350 Oh, I completely agree. That's actually the exact point I was trying to make. The fact that Captain Kidd (which we both agree is a great song) is my least favorite song in this compilation is only possible because every other song is top-tier.
Thank you! For me this is the best volume, always listen it at work!
This style of music is great
Hi, thank you for sharing these awesome shanties! I just discovered your chanel.
Great music, very relaxing. Cheers to all the musicians for composing:)
Oh man another one, so cool !!!
Just in time to enjoy this very day!

Thank you for this wonderful compilation. Much appreciated.
Thank you for these shanties! Makes me want to sail! Good winds Cap’n.
Sounds NICE.
Stunning picks.
Great compilations, thanks for sharing!
From pirates to the civil war Irish wrote and sang the best music.
The British have the best shanties from when the ruled the waves and the empire was in its glory.
"A great compilation, Captain!" "I just subscribed!"
I don't know why I love this. I love this.
Awesome! I've yearn after the Pirates and Black Flag Ships and Sails to the High Seas since I'm child.
Now that, I felt the perfume of brine, having the Cutlass, and listening the sounds of bells in harbor with exciting music tracks awesome composer/singer created. Thank you so much!🎼
Very well spoken friend
Brilliant compilation of classic folks songs.
Beautiful!!!! Thank you very much.
I wanted something like this!

Great playlist!
Lovely, just lovely, and the images are awesome!
I love this LP album I have, "Songs and Sounds of the Sea" by National Geographic, and souvenir CD's from a visit to Mystic Seaport in Connecticut. I love many genres of music, including ballads and work songs.
Jolly Roving Tar is the only proper way to live in the 21st century.
I'm always pleasantly surprised to hear John C. Reily pop up in these compilations.
His voice really is well suited for folk!
Which one of these was John C. Reily?
Every summer, I do a weekend kayaking trip with my brother, and one of the highlights is always, always, playing/singing sea shanties as we paddle along. Eventually we want to save up for an actual boat and see where the wind takes us, but for now we at least have this.
Super, reminds me of 60 years ago and organising folk nights at a pub in deepest Lincolnshire, we knew the words to a lot of songs then!
Memories of pints, pies and a pickled egg!
thank you kindly!🥂
I just opened and started that video and was greeted by a song that I know by heart and have heard many times. 😄🙂
I just wish the thing would stop interrupting while relaxing to the perfect music.
I do a lot of research and writing stories so I love these shanties. It gives me some stimulation to work to huge thanks mate!
As a landlover from Chicago I'm dancing a jig listening to this uplifting music, Ahoyyy!
Thank you SO MUCH for putting this together and ESPECIALLY for making the lyrics available!! Best medicine for a blue day. 😍👏🏽👏🏽
