Vol. 4 - [Re-upload 2] - Shanties & Sea Songs - (ft. The Jolly Rogers, Pyrates & more)

- Apologies for the second re-upload (I had to remove the first two songs this time, due to another copyright claim from UMG). Hopefully it will finally stay up this time around).
Many thanks to all those who listened to the previous uploads, and to anyone who does the same this time around. As always, it is very much appreciated. Stay safe, shipmates.
(Original description) - With this compilation I tried to capture the essence of vocal-only shanties, but with instrumental accompaniment. It is more on the ambient side of things; with a gradual buildup of energy, using songs with minimal instruments.

40+ years removed I am, from the deck of a US Navy Frigate. These songs ... move me. (There were times we could have used a few of these on the bridge for crew moral. Guaranteed, if I were in Command today, we'd be running these out for sea and anchor detail. 😉) Bravo Zulu, Capt'n.
There was a time that our Frigate was racing across the Western Pacific, having missed our return date(s) due to war commitments, trying to get the men home before New Years. There were no fuelers available at sea, so we had to refuel from accompanying Destroyers with longer legs via fire hoses, with men spread across the decks holding lines for up to 12 hours at a time (i.e. due to the slow fuel flow). That song "Tow Rope Girls" would have fit right in. We had everyone from missile techs to ops, engineers to ship's cooks and laundrymen on those lines, and not a man complained, if it meant getting home from a year long deployment a few days earlier, to their wives, sweethearts, and kids. We could have piped the song over the 1MC and lol, it would have helped those wet, tired men thru their watch. Memories ... they're all better 40 years removed. 😁
I know every last word to all of these after listening to your mix on repeat while working late nights at school; teaching is much like being a sailor in many ways, I'd say.
My heartfelt thanks, Cap'n, for getting me through some heavy weather.
The original was the thing that got me here... It's nostalgic. I hope it stays here now.
Who are the original artists? I spent many days by myself fishing in the Montana countryside with this shantiful music ticking away at my side
You sir are a saint for re-uploading this. Many's a drunken night me and the missus have sang to these.
I have not heard one person complain when I play this. I have literally plugged my aux in at a house party and recieved nothing but showers of praise
sea shanties are way better than modern music, agreed?
Aye!
Prolly the best one yet! maintaining the tradition of sea music and poetry which lived in the hearts of people yonder side of Homer.
This feels more folk rock then the last upload I miss the old timey vibes but thanks for sharing
But, but nothing changed lol
The only one who has changed is you jonathan
Just an image of old times of hope and struggle...
Listening to this with a sleep mask on is next level.
The guitar work on this is great ! I love the old sea faring feel of this song ! I love the traditions of the old ballads and storytelling as passed by our ancestors ! Thank you ! Love it ! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I couldn't agree more
Hyped to see so many people consistently listening to this lol.
Can't belive this keeps getting copyrightd
Despair to those whom try to copy the waves! They are always different!
We'll have to pirate it, clearly :|
Not even pirate songs are safe from the hands of the land reapers
@@atrtshit's only right innit
I love this so much been listening for long, I miss the first upload Can I get the names of the missing songs?
This got me through high school I will tell the full story if someone really wants to know
Sounds very authentic of the music the sailors were singing back in the 1650’s I hope!
I've never really been able to tap into my British roots as an American but these shanties have me waving the Union Jack like a Royal Subject
You could probably upload the original video elsewhere and link it in the description. YTs copyright bs is unrelenting.

wasn't there an upload with "the longest johns - ashes" as first song?
what were the songs removed from the original upload and second upload?
❤
where are the first two songs that was in the previous Vol. 4?
Dear author!
In one of your selections of Shanti songs there was the song Bold Riley, very drawn-out and soulful. It seems you have deleted the collection. I can't find it, at least. You can find out: who is the performer of that version of the song?
The Wailin' Jennys do a gorgeous version of Bold Riley if you'd like to check it out
Volume 2 please!
No kidding. Why do they delete the favorites?
for real
@@arianebolt1575 and why is there literally no recordings of Fisherman’s Yarmouth Town and Billy O’Shea anywhere?
Do you have the playlist for vol 2? Been seeking

Ashes, Off to Sea, Paddy Lay Back, New York Girls, and Rattle Them Winches were removed.
@@mentlegenpooty9711 what sucks is you can probably find all of those but Paddy Lay Back seems to be impossible. At least the one that was in the video
