YES!!! I needed this so bad lol. As always man, love the video. Thank you so much for everything you do! Most people dont seem to understand how awesome it is to have someone take time out of their day to help train the masses FOR FREE. Please keep it up, youre changing more lives than you know!
@anonymous actually if I'm on bottom I'm pretty calm and my mind slows down. If I'm on top my mind races a bit since I am not sure what I want to do next.
@anonymous makes sense. I know what I can do once I break guard. My issue is when do I want to attack. From the side or do I move to mount or try to get to the back. The downside of just being new.
Thank you so much the extra step to create space and then bring the knee in helps a lot. Been stuck trying to feed the knee without that step for years and it always gets stuck on the way to full guard
Very helpful video, I find bottom side control to be one of the most difficult positions for me to be in. Now I know that you need to relax and wait for your opponents tight hold to weaken to try to escape
We just covered side control escapes yesterday at class and this got brought up. While framing against the hip worked at times, more often than not it didn't. I might have been exhausted, but against one guy it did absolutely nothing and felt lost. I'll give this a shot next class and see how it fares. Thanks Chewie!
Hey chewi big fan of the channel. Could you do a video about escaping the full mount. This is something that I have a lot of trouble with against the guys that I roll with. Thanks🤙🏾
One of my coaches who's a brown belt is getting ready for a comp so he had me start on top with side control on him, this dude let me get situated in the best position possible, even started with his lapel fed under his armpit. I've never been so impressed in my life when with relatively no force, this dude maneuvered my pressure/arms and was out of my control in less then 10 seconds each time. I'm still dumbfounded considering we're the exact same size and weight.
My 12 year old daughter in her 3rd class got put in this position with a slightly larger girl...the game was the top person was supposed to hold down the bottom person and the bottom person was supposed to try and escape. Like you stated, sometimes it can be impossible and my daughter couldnt move or escape out, she was extremely demoralized and nearly quit jiu-jitsu on the spot. the feeling of someone squeezing hard in this position and her feeling of helplessness really took a mental toll (she was trying with all her might to escape). I watched it all unfold, thankfully the purple belt instructor saw what was happening and carefully addressed the group on the issue of being a good partner and not controlling someone so much they cant move or work any escape.
My wife and I joined a bjj gym a few months ago and about 1.5 months in we went to a class and she was super tired from day to day stuff. So she was just rolling lightly and taking her time to conserve energy. Funnily, she found she did better overall, even against stronger guys. Taking your time, breathing, and looking for openings is one huge thing I don't see people talk about enough!
@@projectdren806 100% you will do better when you slow down. I remember when i was a new white belt being injured, and just playing a lazy game and doing really well. Then my goals changed to instead of winning, or just not losing, to just not getting tired. Like 4 years later that's still my goal for rolls. Plays in with the efficiency principle. On the same coin though, at some point you have to slow down and be more technical in order to improve, but that also frequently results in people doing worse and it's very demoralizing, especially the longer you go being a spazzy white belt. Best thing you can learn to do as a new white belt and relax. You either know a technique to use or you're using basic principles of frames and angles and space, but no explosiveness and spazzing, that shit holds you back hardcore. Save that for a comp.
@@psyience3213 Yeah for sure! We have only been about 3 months but being patient really helps. I've rolled with a few blue belts, and while I can tell they "catch and release" me throughout the roll, I don't tire out immediately anymore and I can defend at least some of the stuff they are throwing at me lol. Like you said, the goal is to survive! Sometimes (often) that means taking a moment to breathe.
I'd love to see a video about what to expect at your first jiu jitsu competition and how to sign up. I am a white belt at a brand new academy and I don't even know where to start.
Umm question, sir, my training partner is a 315-pound purple belt that wrestled D1. I am a 265-pound blue belt that has a BB in judo from 15 years ago. I'm currently picking my ribs cage out of my spine, any help would be appreciated.
Chewy it’s a great video, but is there really no way to get out of it if someone is squeezing tight? Is there something you could recommend next to waiting? If not then not
Are you able to do a flying arm bar or flying triangle at some point please 😁 love the videos to and I use the Kimora from guard you did I a video on a lot
Love your vids mate. Adam is a robot, scary to go on the mat with him. :) "Love you Adam BTW" Assume you get to 4:45, is it possible to go for Kimura? or too risky?
It'll be hard to hit from that position. You'll be in bottom side with a figure 4. They'll probably counter it and stop it easy. And if they know it they could armbar you. So I wouldn't attempt a Kimura till I got to half guard.
And yet trick doesn’t work on higher belt. He or she knows what I am doing. Rolling with higher belts makes my escape solid when I use it on same level opponents.
Hey is there any chance that you could please show some knee on belly escape options? Had a scroll through you escapes playlists and I cant see anything covering that nightmare position.
Hey Chewy! I'm weaker than everyone else at my gym and new guys who've joined a month after me are whopping my ass. Should I pick up strength training or just focus on techniques?
Absolutely get into strength. Even running a linear progression program is very helpful. I've heard him say the guys on his competition team are required to weight train. Technique is always nice in sports. Technique with power is even nicer.
I’m new to Jiujitsu so I’m probably missing something here. You mentioned that you don’t push on the hip, it’s never been good to you is what you said. But in this video you specifically explain how you push on the hip with a technique to escape side control ua-cam.com/video/VBT67Grv28k/v-deo.html What am I missing here?
Tried this move tonight. Worked like a dream. I've got something that I can use in my tool box. Atleast it's not totally empty.
Hey a toolbox with a single flathead inside isn’t an empty toolbox lol!
Adam always beats me in our staring contest during the key-points/conclusion portion of the videos.😞

Appreciate you brother.
Thank you chewy 🙏
I escaped a purple belt today and managed to survive against them as a humble white belt. Appreciate you and Adam!
As a 155lb white belt 2 months in, I look forward to trying this next class. Thanks!
Yes. But as a 275lb white belt I've been under it as well. It's not a lot of fun. Looks like I might have something to try as well.

@@bmstylee I suck at maintaining mount so I always just attack from side control with arm triangles and kimura I'm a 135lb white belt lol
I’m a 155lb white belt as well man, 4 months in just got my first stripe yesterday :)
Super helpful, especially for a new white belt such as myself. Some days it feels like on the bottom, all roads lead to either side control or mount😅
Great stare down from Adam by the way! Absolutely enjoyed it xD
Adam doesn't blink in the intro or outro. Savage!
Thaks Chewy, Adam, And camera human
Camera Human is Spartan. He's our camera man.

Damn. This is an insane amount of info Ive never seen. Gonna grab a couple whities tomorrow and practice these. Thanks Chew!
Thank you both, Professors.
Thanks Chewy

Really helpful thanks! It was simple and clear
This would’ve helped me this morning! Cant wait to try tomorrow!
thank you so much, me and this one guy in the gym always end up in side control so this is very helpful!
@anonymous you know what I meant tard
Thank you!
I like the high five ending, wholesome
Superb as always!! Thanks Chewy and Adam, you guys are legends 🤙🤙🤙
I needed this. Thanks Chewy

That's been the theme of the week at my club. Tonight we did tuck and roll and a variation of that which ended with single leg x.
Thanks chewy!
Adam for president
Awesome stuff. Thank you Professor.
I appreciate what you do
We all do!
Amazing! Buzzing to give this a try

It's even more impressive since he is a couch.
Thank you
Nice details, as always. Thanks 🙏🏻
Adam is HILARIOUS ^__^ y’all are awesome
Yeah man! Chewy!
Thinking Adam would benefit from some "trust catch" practice based on the look in his eyes towards the end of the video
yes!

Haha you're welcome.
It's so hard to stay focused because of Adam !
New guys have a hard time learning that technique: the relax and let them burnout technique. Works like a charm

Oh yes i got crushed by a heavier gentleman last night. Im new hes newer but just destroyed me. Lol needed this
The way we were taught side control here, is that you pin the opponents face with your shoulder so he cannot turn towards you :/
After watching this video, I Goggled world record staring contest winners for some reason......
Chewy it’s a great video, but is there really no way to get out of it if someone is squeezing tight? Is there something you could recommend next to waiting? If not then not
It’s not impossible just let your opponent waste their energy you can’t squeeze forever
That stare just made me lose 2 stripes. Great video. thanks professors
The jazz hands were a pleasant surprise lol

There's a killer wrist lock when the person frames on your neck like that.
I'm familiar with it.
