8:50 "Slow withering as they get tired of doing the same thing over and over again" Personally attacked me for sure lol. This was literally me today. Appreciate the video
One of the best explanations of how the system works. Metaverse of why bottom side sucks. Planning on watching this again and again, to then listen to it while I walk over and over again, to then on the mat. You know your stuff.
Sooooo good!!! I've had the "don't let them grt what they want" mentality since purple belt. Yiu can tell they are trying to get your lapel, don't let them, for example. Chew, you the man!!!
Great video, I love your point about keeping the menu short and how to get yourself to the positions you know best. I also really like how you explain trying to move the opponent is a waste of time and energy and instead we should focus on moving ourselves.
THANK YOU CHEWIE I remember I was one of the people asking for this vid and it came right on time as I have competition this weekend!! Thanks I’ll put those tips to use !!
5 years ago after my first class I saved your how to escape side control video to my bookmarks cause I was so sick of being pinned lol, it helped a lot but I can always use more help ❤
My side control escapes are god tier against people who weight 20lbs than me, and my escapes suck against people 20lb heavier than me. Its that simple.
Blue Belt. A little over a year into being a white belt and enjoying it all. Trying to get through a few more competitions before I get promoted. Being ultra heavy, escapes and sweeps have been difficult to gain success with. These are weak points I want to address in the short term.
Side control seems to take a long time to start getting your bearings. One of the biggest things that help me is understanding my hip position. Turning your hips from facing the ceiling to facing the floor while having an under hook allows your to take the back and come out next to your partner rather than crushed by them.
The best thing to do that I found to get out of side control is to try and hook the near leg with yours, when he shifts his hips to escape that and readjust, it always leaves space for the underhook.
1:25ish. Hello professor. I agree, but sometimes I hold back mount in training longer than I would normally to see if I can find a way to reposition myself to a more dominant back control. Should I continue to pursue this or just abandon that method and go for top control?
i got shorter but... "denser" (?) guys in my group that smash me in side control.... i just can't get out... can't breathe and it sucks. that last one with the legs/hip flip/switch might be worth trying. any other tips to create space? they just squeeze so hard and are so dense i can't move.
I was under side control for 5 minutes last night withering, the final minute I made it to a bottom turtle esk with the guy body locking me and I stayed in bottom of that until buzzer. Misserable round.
I'm super interested in your Side Control series, so I signed up on the link in the description, but it never sent me an email (checked spam of course, not there either). Hopefully it gets fixed?
Just what I need before my third competition this weekend! Fortunately I've yet to really have my guard passed in a comp, but also yet to get on that podium!
As strange as it sounds, I'm better escaping mount than I am escaping side-control. *If* I escape side control, the ghost escape is usually how I do it.
I highly encourage you to check out Marcelo Garcia’s underhook escape. It compliments the ghost escape by having a different answer for super tight super holds. The ghost escape is great, but you need a backup. I learn all the escapes, but I concentrate on 3 - 4 1. Marcelo Garcia underhook escape 2. Ghost escape 3. Elbow push (Marcelo Garcia) 4. Running man escape
Man, i took 6 months off for an injury and came back totally incapable of escaping side control. Thank you for putting this out.
I had a similar problem after being laid up for 3 weeks due to surgery

As a white belt with 3 stripes I can confidently say my Side Control Escapes don't Suck. It's just that they don't exist... 🤣

PURE GOLD!!!!!! As always, thank you for sharing your wisdom in such an easy digestible manner.
Bottom side control is my weakest part of my game. I think this video may be the game changer I needed!
Reason #8: you aren’t buggy choking them
Excellent! Had a problem with SC this morning.Big help. Thanks,Chewy!
This is brilliant. Certainly helps alot as a new white belt. Appreciate your content 🙏🏼
This was a very good video. Well done, very informative and practical. Focus on your style and get people to play your game. Great advice.

I’ve watched this before, and I just watched it twice in a row 🙏

Haven't watched the video yet, but I'm guessing there are more than 7 reasons...
😂
There's a part 2. Reasons 8 through 34
Ok... Watched the video. That was actually helpful. #6 for the win
Reason 8 - I dont know any of the escapes he showed (kinda)
Reason 9 - I still just suck at jiujitsu
Lies. Only 7
What a great breakdown!
12:50 leg pendulum away for underhook or frame escapes
Bicep bridge for underhook
You should do a video just about the chain of attacks you did
Learned so much from this channel THANK YOU!
Brandon leveled up! congrats!
Thank you

Thank you Coach!
Learned a ton!
Great tips man❤
This video is worth it's weight in gold. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙏🏽 (3 stripe purple repping Southern California 💜)
Thank you!
It's funny just watching these, looking back, remembering how bad it feels to be crushed due to inability. 😂😎🤟

Golden tips!

I'll try this
@@MManiacs2 it’s timing man he’ll have to base up to adjust his hips, it will open the hole.

No Jazz-Hands Adam. That is why my escapes suck.
great video
This is exactly what I need
Thanks chewy
Great video all true, however when rolling with the +120kgs all attempts seem to fail lol..
Congrats to Brandon on his Purple belt..
good video

When i play worm and squid guard i have a big problem with people just sitting back and straight ancle locking me... any tips?
Thank you so much, I have been getting smashed. I can't wait to work on some of these tips.
Do you like funkroll escape?

we are the same

My whole game sucks😅
With ya my man
Man I'm doing most of these. 🤦♂
How did you know they sucked? Ha! They definitely do.
Nex time: top 10 reasons why I should quit.
Has anybody told you that you kinda look like ryan reynolds
Another great video my friend. Thank you! Gracias hermano!
