Nicely done, sir. The repair of the knife was great in itself but to then repair the sheath and clean and polish it all was an added treat. Nicely done.
I gotta give you an A+ on this job. You made an old knife and leather gear feel wanted again and not to mention, desirable. I'd wear that belt and knife any time. Your bud's grampa is going to love it. You do good work man and your video is excelent. Thank you.
I love that you reused the pieces of the old handle, and the antler spacer was masterful! You and I know, but for those who don't, cutting and polishing antler, horn, or bone must be done while wearing a mask, if you value your lungs. Even 5 minutes of it without a mask will make your lungs and throat hurt for a couple of days
Beautiful work, both knife and leather, my complements...you have turned an "ugly duckling" into a "swan"...May I suggest a "security strap" of some type with a snap, perhaps, be added somehow to secure the knife to the sheath? With care, this knife and its belt and sheath, will be around for a long, long time... the grandson must be highly chuffed with the result...a very good way to preserve grandpa's memory...Good job!
Excellent restore, sir! That knife looks like it could be used in Esgrima Criolla, the fighting system of the Gauchos of Argentina. Also love how you restored the belt and sheath. Beautiful!
Realy nice restoration of a knife and holsterbelt. I glad to see you saving the belt and sheath because they have a beautiful patina. One backdro. The holster lacks a securitystrap for the knife to protect it from getting lost.. Well done
Cool restore; one guy said best way to test sharpness is if the blade shaves every single hair if you do a small pass on your arm. If it leaves a few hairs it can still be sharpened more. Beautiful job.
Leaving the stag bark on the handle would have made a beautiful touch of contrast to the rest of the handle and blade, a bit of character if you know what I mean, a detail that would take the entire piece to a higher level.
Holy furkin shit from a rust bucket to a gold mine awesome job on knife and belt u r a skilled man thanks for the video amazing job thank you 👍👍👌👍👍👌👌👍👍👌👌
Really nice job on the metalwork for this knife. Also on the sheath and belt. Nice trick on replacing the threaded section and on the pipe that holds the blade with wood while you sanded the handle. I would have considered making a new guard and replacing the entire handle with antler. Knife appears to be South American in origin. Any clue as to who was the original maker?
YOU’RE A LIARRR! The title said Bowie Knife Restoration! But you went and did an awesome job with both the knife aaand it’s holster! Maybe that’s why there’s 6 people who disliked this video, two in one project was too much for them. Hahaha. Awesome restoration. Just Beautiful.

@Chaz Miller, no. I think it’s because he beat them to the punch. They had similar videos, but he uploaded before they did, so, they felt like shit, and blame him for what they couldn’t accomplish in time. LOL.
@Hugo Adrian Wilkins Yeah, there's only one way YOU would know whether or not I was a cock sucking, brown nose...and usually in one single act, sooo...also, you understand it was his project for HIM to use what ever procedure he deemed fitting for his purposes, correct? Where, the only thing YOU contributed is a butt hurt scathing remark, more or less aimed towards me for a joke I rightfully posted. I mean, everyone is entitled to post their opinion, hence my reply to yours. God I hope you make cotton candy for a living...and not make knives. I just wanted to let you know (although I'm a little late to this video) that I've been meaning to catch a video right after it gets uploaded to say that it would be awesome to sell your work - not only would you get revenue off of the video and show off your blade making/fixing skills, you'd also have a great video to show to any potential buyers the work you put in. I see from the video description that you've opened an Etsy shop, and I really like that. If that black/gold scalpel knife is still around, I will gladly throw my money at you for it, because it's beautiful and I have neither the tools nor the capabilities to create it myself. Your craftsmanship is beautiful. I aspire to work on my car the same way you put care into your artwork. Edit: all the things I wanted have all been already bought or aren't for sale. *hurt noises*
Stones in a Lansky-type sharpener like that should stroke toward the edge, not away from it. The only device that should stroke away from the edge is the leather strop attachment.
@Hugo Adrian Wilkins Watch this entire video -- ua-cam.com/video/ZlI5PaXsfOk/v-deo.html -- but don't stop short when you see him both pushing and pulling the stone because that is not sharpening, it's shaping. You'll see how the pulling away from the edge during shaping creates a burr of metal underneath the edge; this is what you'll remove during the actual sharpening portion of the task. So watch and listen to him when he transitions to sharpening at around 7:55. The only difference with my technique is that I only use water and never oil to flush metal from the stones. Not even a drop of oil ever touches my stones, ever (no testicle jokes, please). Also, I have created a WICKED custom sharpening kit in a fitted case with everything needed to put a mirror edge on knives. Let me know if you want me to take some pics of it. It's true knife porn.
nice work ! I`ve rebuilt several knives over the past four decades , and the only thing I would have done differently is the guard ! the original is possibly one of the ugliest guards I`ve ever seen , that would have been replaced ! but excellent work there !

Хоть я в ножах и полный ноль, но за процессом наблюдать очень интересно! А вот интересно что это за раствор для воронения такой что ржавчину в момент выводит? Ортофосфорная?
The tang was a sin against the knife gods. You did the best you could with what you had to work with, but me personally, all that knife would be is a wall hanger or letter opener. Just don't trust those kinds of tangs. Other than that personal gripe, you took a turd and turned it into a beautiful piece of art.

Wow. Loved how you kept the belt, loop and sheath true to their age... kept that valuable “patina”! Awesome.
Quick "me, too" on the leather. Not just a savey repair on the seam, but also a great job on enhancing the coloring!!
Thinking same thing. Nice job.

Excellent restore, sir! That knife looks like it could be used in Esgrima Criolla, the fighting system of the Gauchos of Argentina. Also love how you restored the belt and sheath. Beautiful!
Argentinian gauchos, if they still exist, use a very different kind of knife, known as facon or faca which is more likely a dagger.
Realy nice restoration of a knife and holsterbelt. I glad to see you saving the belt and sheath because they have a beautiful patina. One backdro. The holster lacks a securitystrap for the knife to protect it from getting lost.. Well done
It was a nice looking knife at first but, now it’s outstanding

No need for a Bowie to be that sharp. Also the edge would hold as good cause it gets very thin

I am curious about the chemicals, stains and polishes you used. Great results on the knife & its sheath!
Never thought of welding a bolt on the tang... makes a really nice adhesive surface for the glue.
I was wondering if he chose a bolt matching threading in the pommel, and whether he chose a bolt of special quality steel for that.
Perfect job 👍

That knife doesn’t even have real rust on it
What cleaning fluid does he use to take off all that rust?
He mentioned he used ferric chloride in another video, but I doubt that's the solution and is only an intermediate as a removal solution.
I've seen other knife restorers use hydrochloric acid.
