As always, I love watching you revive a classic from your country. But, I gotta say, that sheath/scabbard! It had it all….the compound wood, the carving, the leather, the stitching, buckles, exposed and beaten pins…..so much awesome…..you’re brilliant
Before I found your channel, I was ignorant of the proud heritage of that area. I am truly impressed by your skill in both woodworking and metalworking.
He is very resourceful and does so much with less than some resteration channels you will see. Like the coffee he used to dye the handle. I would buy stain. But he used 5 cents worth of coffee to do the same thing to my $15 dollar can of stain. He is also funny and shows his mistakes. That allows us to see the full experience and learn from it. And if you do this it will teach you a lesson. He is just a great guy.
I can forge most any blade I want and make my own ‘damascus.’ I have to say that’s a beautiful pattern on that old blade and the decorative etching you did is super nice! I’ve made a few wood core scabbards but your leather coverings are far better than anything I can do! Well done, sir! I’ll have to try your methods next time.
Alex!, You have outdone Yourself once again! From the etching on the blade to the traditional handle, and the sheath is superb! You never cease to impress and amaze me! As always the very best to You and Yours from Brian in Southern California
Such a fantastic video with so many good things. You're surprised at the finding of the Damascus was wonderful, the straps on the scabbard looked so professional while still feeling rustic. And what made me smile the most was you talking at the end of the video. I absolutely loved it all! Beep beep!
I loved the etching! Damascus is a very sough after blade. No wonder they converted it into a knife! I am still grateful for your scabard craftsmanship!
It's interesting that this blade design shares attributes of both the seax and a Bowie knife. An incredible restoration and a beautiful sheath to match. Bravo sir!
Awesome job you did restoring the knife. Just as impressive is the new scabbard that you made for it. It looks much better and it cuts cleanly. Excellent work as usual.
Świetna robota 👍👍 Aczkolwiek to ostrze aż się prosiło o oprawę typu Bowie, ale każdy artysta robi po swojemu 👍Za to dłuta z rurek,to naprawdę świetny pomysł!!👍👍
I thought so at first too but the blade isn’t quite a Bowie shape with those full length fullers. Remember that James Bowie took inspiration from many existing knife styles of his time, and people were immigrating from all over Europe. I do not doubt that he saw Caucasus style knives when designing his. But yes, this knife deserves a traditional treatment including that cloven hoof looking pommel. I particularly loved the etching which gives the blade a cultured and wild look at the same time.
Your video put me in great conflict. Being an antique dealer, and collector of edge weapons, I have always believed in😂 leaving as much original form as possible. Your drilling out the hand made holes on the tang, for example, made me cringe. I have many Japanese katana, wakasushi, and tanto I would not apply any of these techniques to. That being said, your expertise in restoration is obvious and greatly entertaining. The finished product here is superb, even if the items' facade of antiquity is greatly compromised (as is the value in auction).
I've said it before and I'll say it again you are a true Craftsman an artist what you do reminds me of the the Renaissance work Craftsman their craft solely for the rich😊❤
Very beautiful blade my friend! Broke my heart a little when the 30 minutes of work got trashed. But you did that old blade a solid. Excellent work Amigo.
Приветствую 👋!Я сейчас нахожусь на Ямале России,тут уже стало прохладно,а так было жарковато. Как и всегда,отличная работа👍!И Тебе Удачи,Успехов и Здоровья!Всем Добра ✊️!
That may be one of my favorite knives you've done. I love the stain on the handle and the sheath leatherwork is masterful. I will admit I am a coffee addict and when i saw you putting power in water i thought you were making coffee not stain. 🤣🤣
I enjoyed seeing your comment about not wasting anything. I myself am the same. Being born from a poverty family. I have learned to save every last scrap. That could be usable in one way or another. Be it scrap firewood for tender or for building something a scrap piece of paper or a scrap piece of denim. It can all be used.
Quick question. When did you notice the blade was Damascus? I noticed when it was put in the vice (1:28). If you noticed at that time also, would you still have etched with Nitric Acid, or would you have chosen the Ferrous Chloride?
As always, I love watching you revive a classic from your country. But, I gotta say, that sheath/scabbard! It had it all….the compound wood, the carving, the leather, the stitching, buckles, exposed and beaten pins…..so much awesome…..you’re brilliant
