This dude had so much game. If he came along in today's game, with the nonexistent perimeter D, lack of big men and rules catering to the offensive player, he would absolutely dominate.
Abdul-Rauf is an inspiration on so many levels. As great a basketball player as he was, who he is as a human of principles, ethics, and conscientiousness is even greater. #taqbir
Abdul-Rauf also became a renowned freethrow shooter over the years and stayed shooting in the top 80s. I liked his game a lot, I think players like Monta Ellis and Steph Curry can learn a few things off him here and there.
His legacy of protest lives on. I'm 22 and I'm only now hearing about him over how the NBA blackballed him for taking a stand with the national anthem controversy. Just goes to show the ones that speak out are remembered even when the industry tries to destroy them.
That move wasn't too popular in Colorado. Very Caucasian area. He also screwed himself by saying 9/11 was a US Govt plot and not Islamic terrorists. That one was the one that TRULY got him blackballed. He was toxic and that was right after 9/11 that he decided to say that. Bad move career wise.
@@judahwatcher1140 Haha. Really? If you believe 9/11 was a false flag, by default, that means you believe in every other conspiracy theory. It's a weird thing, but once someone dons the tinfoil hat for one conspiracy theory, they generally accept all others. You rarely find one who says 9/11 was an inside job, but Newtown was definitely not a false flag!
I remember him at LSU,& nba nuggets great shooter good range, very quick he had it b4 the ray allen,reggie,steph,dame,kd..best shooter, not 90% 91,92 but 96% free threw shooting at one point!!/he was lightning all the guards up from Isiah, mj,stocking, Jackson, who ever!
Part of what made him a legit triple way threat was his shooting ability. You get people to respect that and if you can take it to the hole like he showed, expect the double teams. Which also means teammates being open. And lets not mention that quick release of his jumper. There have been many undersized guards who have shown their ability to score but as a deadly pure shooter, Rauf holds that distinction.
just a decent practicing Muslim...not like those "showbiz" Muslims who treat Islam as some kind of fashion or social statement but never prayed or practiced the ways of Prophet Muhammad SWS
@kenitrad6932 OMGoodnes u didnt just say that. Mahmoud scored 5 40+ games in a row in college. He lit MJ up for 35 in a 1/2. 1 of the purest jump shooters ever from 25ft & in. 90% ft shooter. Runner up in the slamdunk contest as well. Dude has the most perfect form that can only be duplicated but never exceeded.
@ikareem5 Yea i am, hes coming from atlanta sunday afternoon and we will work out from monday through friday! Hopefully he can teach me alot of new things and help me get better
I remember abdul-rauf was good but my last memory of him is when he didnt wanna stand during the national anthem and thats a no no,everybody is in title to they own beliefs they own religion but when you getting paid millions here and you dont atleast wanna stand during the national anthem then you should go some where else straight up but back to ball this guy was good
+Juju Nba He had controversial views so he was pretty much blackballed. He converted to Islam, then refused to stand during the national anthem before games. When the media asked him about it, he said it's because the national anthem symbolized the tyranny and oppression that America is responsible for in the world. And he become public enemy number 1 then. No team wanted to touch him. He pretty much got run out of the league.
+Swaggy Jee More than his religion. Had he just converted to Islam and changed his name, his career wouldn't have been cut short. Nothing would've happened. It's specifically because he refused to stand during the national anthem, and the media got wind of it and asked him about it. His answer is what really damned him. He said it's because the national anthem is a symbol of tyranny and oppression (and the US is a tyrant and oppressor, implicitly). THAT is what caused all of his problems. Not simply his religion. If he had converted to Islam, but never pulled that stuff with the national anthem, his career would not have been cut short. No one would've even really noticed him for anything other than his basketball skill. It was his controversial actions/statements that caused the issue, not simply the fact he became Muslim in and of itself. The national anthem thing made him a national story
Thomas Hester I was responding to the people who said it was just cause of his religion, which is total bullshit. I never said anything about right or wrong. Just that it was his actions that were seen as unpatriotic that pissed american fans off, not his religion.

I remember him hitting 1 of the greatest buzzer beaters ever vs the Clippers to win the game.
I suffer from a form of Tourette's and I admire the odds he overcame more than you'd ever imagine. It's hard to think too much.
Abdul-Rauf also became a renowned freethrow shooter over the years and stayed shooting in the top 80s. I liked his game a lot, I think players like Monta Ellis and Steph Curry can learn a few things off him here and there.
I still haven't seen a quicker release jumpshot yet, this guy was amazing!!!

more lethal than ray allen
@stew127 well, stop holding out n upload em already...he was my fav. college player back in the day

@kenitrad6932 No , Derrick rose is like Chris Jackson on a lower scale
whos chris jackson im pretty sure its mahmoud abdul rauf
LOL--rose doesnt have the long range or mid range jumpshot like Chris Jackson had.

Just me or does he remind you also of Carlton?
zynicals just you
laphonso ellis siting @3:45??!! Lol
@mattaddi5000
Are you seriously about to work out with him? He's a family friend of mine, a close family friend.
why is career was that short ?
Because of his religion
The NBA practically forced him out of the league. It sucks cause he's one of my favorite players
+Swaggy Jee More than his religion. Had he just converted to Islam and changed his name, his career wouldn't have been cut short. Nothing would've happened. how is that wrong tho?

@badback007 leave it to a white guy to bring that up like that makes it ok. and what's your point? it lasted 400 yrs!
But as fast as he rose up in being a talent in the NBA, he quickly crashed down as fast.
