Chris Jackson (53pts/7threes/4asts) vs. Florida (1988)

  • This could be the most impressive game by an NCAA player I've ever seen. Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf (or Chris Jackson) was a freshman participating in only his fifth college basketball game ever. Yet he drowns threes in the first seconds of the shot clock and fools seniors with his pump fakes and shake and bake moves like he had been doing this for years. What I loved most about the game is that he had no conscience whatever. LSU dominated the first half, only for Florida to come back and almost tie the game. Yet Jackson wouldn't let that happen by scoring 21 points in the span of about 6 or 7 minutes to ensure LSU's win. Amazing. NCAA 1988-89.

      You're fucking dumb, he got to the nba and wasted his talent just cause he didn't want to hear the national anthem, steph shoots from damm near half court and even with people knowing he's going to shoot he steph kills them anyway, no ones ever been close to what stephs done and Abdul/cj clearly maxed out in college

    Yup, that's why I'm here. I remember being FLABBERGASTED by Chris Jackson at the time. I, as a 5'10" shooting guard, tried to fashion my game after CJ. He was my favorite player, because of his smooth style and I was a little chubby (beer), and CJ had that baby fat. I'm older but had never seen a combination of handle, unlimited range and quick release that CJ possessed.
    It's interesting to me that when he was diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome, that I saw that the same obsessive-compulsive segment of the disorder which caused him to repeat certain actions was instrumental to him working on his handle and jump shot.

      @LilFundemental 8 років тому

      You need to stop fucking overating hand checking, fucking hell, it makes no God damm difference , if he was capable of that he would've done it when he did play and he didn't, with that logic dozens of players should average that and they don't, kyrie doesn't average that and he's got way BETTER handles then cj and is great shooter, steph is the only guy capable of playing like this at the NBA level, and shoots absurd percentages despite shooting f from near half court, 20 point scorers have dropped dramatically in the last decade despite so called "rule changes" Kobe spend most of his career with the new rules and didn't average fucking 50 points a game, his best was 35ppg in 06 with the horrible team he had, yet people think MJ can average 50 today? If anybody was gonna average 50 it would've been KOBE in his prime on the kwame brown, smush Parker lakers team, MJS best PPG was 37ppg in like 87 best ever for anyone not named wilt, Kobe right after with his 35ppg.

    I used to be a huge college basket ball fan back in the late 80's and 90's and i still say Chris Jackson was the best college basketball player I ever seen. Of course when Shaq showed up at LSU the show wasn't quite the same but Chris was the most consistent high scorer of any player I watched in my time. My favorite college players were as follows : #1 Chris Jackson/ #2 Glenn Robinson/ #3 Penny Hardaway. I will say after following Chris's career into the pro's I was a little disappointed in Chris for changing his name to Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf in a possible defiance of being American. I'm 100% white but I always rooted for Chris and at the time I would never miss an LSU game on T.V. I've always been a Syracuse fan since Sherman Douglas and Billy Owens but in the Chris Jackson years I was a huge LSU fan also. I'll always think of him as Chris Jackson.

Mahmoud was Step before Step and unfortunately, Kaepernick before Kaepernick. Steph need to give credit to this guy. He mimicked his game after Mahmoud, not Dell. It's so obvious. He never got the press because he was in Denver, and they were never broadcast much. This guy was amazing to be only 5'9 or 5'10 (i played pickup ball w/ him). College legend and NBA great. Everybody just runs to the 38 foot shot.... Okay it was a great shot we understand that.... But everyone acting like curry was never seen before. These guys had similar play styles, Curry doesn't impress me that much. He NEEDS a screen 80% of the time. 20% handles to get his shot.

      38 foot shot is easy work for curry. curry is never before seen. he the best shooter on catch and off the dribble. he can pull up from 30-35 feet.

    I swear if Mahmoud didn't gain all that weight and shot the ball more like Iverson he definitely would of became an all star. He should of made the all star team his 3rd year averaging 18pts a game but I guess his acts off the court affected him, which is messed up because look at artest and rodman. They let them stay in the league but not Mahmoud

    He was a remarkable player, but lolwuttermelons, it's not unheard of for freshmen to take over like that. Sampson, Melo, Durant and Tisdale dominated as freshmen, too. And Maravich would've done so with the varsity team, as he did with his freshman team.

      All bigs though. What made Abdul-Rauf special was that he was a small perimeter player doing this.

      Maravich was a big? Really? You do know he was a PG, and not 'big' at all, right? And Melo isn't exactly a PF or center and neither is KD, c'mon man.

      Trey B. Cartwright Maravich was 6'6. melo is 6'8. KD is like 6'11 now. Jackson was 6'0 or 6'1 pretty short compared to the rest
