I think Tomas' back is easing back into using mics. Bleed in particular is really hard to play with just mics. Perhaps he's recovering from his back problems? He used to only trigger Bleed at first and around 2012 or 2013, switched to just triggers for a more consistent and clean sound. I think in 2016, he started using a Porter & Davies throne and that's when those Shure side address mics started appearing in front of the kick vents (Not sure what model. They look like KSM32s, but all black). We still only received trigger in the FOH mix but in an interview, he mentioned they were for his IEM mix and for his throne, I guess to make sure he was still hitting hard enough. I made the trip from Toronto to Boston on Tuesday and he had Beta 52s on his kick vents, nothing inside. The kick sound was very quiet but very organic. It was lovely. I could really hear and feel the kicks during Rational Gaze and Stengah, but during Bleed, I couldn't hear shit. During the teardown, I noticed that he still had his 2box main and backup brains next to him and two triggers on each kick--but I didn't hear them.
