New sectors for UK investors to consider in the UAE as FTA talks progress

  • The possibility of a free trade agreement between the UK and the GCC - worth as much as £1.6 billion ($2 billion) a year - should prompt UK investors to reconsider their preconceptions about the economic approach of the UAE and its fellow members of the Gulf bloc.
    Bradley Jones from the UK-UAE Business Council says the UAE, for example, is expanding into sectors such as life sciences, genomics and the use of AI in healthcare, and UK investors should “educate themselves about the breadth of opportunity that exists in the region”.
    “The economic dynamics of this country are changing very fast and the mindset of British companies has to change with it,” Jones says.
