Since then I am so fascinated by spiders, I can not describe how interesting I have become these creatures through your videos for me. I've noticed with my A. purpurea is kind of a "diva" as much as a spider can be. She (too young to gender, hopeful guess) will scrunch down at the first feeling of discomfort. Its great because it means I can make sure Angel has conditions that are good for her, but it also means as a new T keeper I'm kind of obsessively watching her. Maybe its an Avic thing?
    Its just like my first cat, Lotus. She's a little princess and as a adolescent one day started making all the signs of kitty medical distress. I dropped everything I was doing to take her to the vet ASAP and she had... like one flea. The very beginnings of flea issues. This cat still plays me like a fiddle to this day and I'm relieved Angel doesn't have the emotional/mental capacity to wrap me around one of her little fuzzy legs.

    What a treat to see one of the more rare Avics. She's a beauty indeed !
    Forgive me for asking this, Dave, but by pushing her rear with your thumb to encourage her to move forward, did you not come in contact with its urticating hairs ? As as I'm aware, Avics and Caribena deliver them by rubbing onto the annoyance, kind of like how a porcupine releases its quills onto a too curious predator.
    Just wondering.

    I've been watching a ton of your content and i love it! BUT... Every time i see the thumbnail i'm super excited to see the spider and everytime i feel like it's more about the encloser then the spider.
    Solution: Whenever you are ready, do a series in which you display your spider(s) and talk about the species, your experience with them, what you know about them and maybe something about your exact individual you are dispalying. And all that without anything about the enclosers. I've seen people use a exhibitional tank for education purposes only.
    You've got a ton spiders so that'd be a hefty series ^^
    Alright, cool ^^

    Huh, I've heard so much conflicting information surrounding Avics. Some say theey like it humid, but more and more recently I've heard high humidity can lead to S.A.D.S. So now i hear alot of keepers saying to keep their terrarium bone dry. I just can't get a straight answer

    • @bfunky7517
      @bfunky7517 3 роки тому +2

      Keeping is all personal experience mainly, it's good to get an idea of how to care for a specific species but most of the time people just use what works best for their spiders needs overtime, Every T is different. Hope this helps! :) (My Personal experience; Mine likes a good spray around once a week)

    • @daveslittlebeasties
      @daveslittlebeasties  3 роки тому +9

      The problem is there is a world of difference between wet and humid, you can have a dry enclosure that is humid and this is what we aim for 👍the bio-active set up will allow this 👍

    • @wanderwurst8358
      @wanderwurst8358 3 роки тому +4

      Yes, keep them humid but dry (Not bonedry - that is a desert climate). I always have some moist deep down in the substrate, but the surface is rather dry. If i have condensation on the upper panes i let them dry out and i never spray them, just pour the substrate and give them a fresh waterdish or i hang them some drops in their net if the sling-pot is to small for a waterdish. If you have no cross ventilation, then clamp a piece of something under the front glass - they can't stand stifling air. This is how my Avis and renamed Avis survive - and they all survived until now. 😉👍

    • @amicaaranearum
      @amicaaranearum 3 роки тому +3

      The issue is not humidity per se but lack of ventilation. What kills _Avicularia_ is a moist, stuffy enclosure.
      I live in a warm, humid climate, so I just use a water dish for my Avics, and they are thriving. If you live in a really arid environment, you might consider adding moisture to the substrate to raise humidity -- but make sure the enclosure is well ventilated (ideally top and sides).
      Live plants are another option for raising humidity, although I personally stick with fake plants, because that is easier for me.

    • @helenHTID
      @helenHTID 3 роки тому +1

      @@amicaaranearum Lack of ventilation is a problem for any T and so is wrong level of humidity - Gotta be 60-90% deepening on species.

    I love how you showed the 3 Avicularia (Caribena) living different ways. I'm a big fan of the Psalmopeous, and their cousins. So, I've got 3 each: Psalmopeous pulcher, Psalmopeous reduncus, Pseudoclamoris gigas, and Tapinauchenius violaceus. I set them up in my standard arboreal sling enclosures (inverted AMAC) boxes, with the bit of dirt in the lid, and some web anchor points hot glued to make a canopy. 1/2 of them did what they were supposed to, and webbed up the fake plants in the top. Makes it easy to wash out the water bowls and such, which I keep on the ground. A few are just nomadic, no real webbing, they just wander around like their in a rock band. But a few of them (2/3 Tapinauchenius, and one P reduncus), decided they're fossorial now, and won't climb up to save their life.

    Hard to find info on these guys in the states, picked one up as a sling a few days ago and having trouble finding a care sheet.

    Another great video ! Where’re is that spider found in the wild usually? And one more question: and it’s probably a silly one but I’m gunna ask it anyway! When you get spiderlings, why not just put them in their “adult size” enclosure right off the bat to avoid numerous, potentially dangerous, rehousings?

    • @fanbid
      @fanbid 3 роки тому +6

      A spider in too large an elcosure will be unable to find its prey. They find things through vibration, so if something is too far away they can't feel it. in addition, lost prey can die and then rot, leading to unhealthy conditions.

      @@fanbid that makes perfect sense. And I suppose when they are super tiny tong feeding is kind of out of the question too. Thank you for the response!! 🙏🏼👋

      These are from the amazon and surrounding areas and yes as stated slings do better in small enclosures its much easier to maintain them and feed them 👍

    I am so seriously wanting to get another spider. I had a Hattian tarantula when I was a single fella.. she was a great pet. She would crawl on my arm and sit on my chest and just relax when I was watching tv.. But today I would have to get momma drunk enough to allow me to have one.. That is not the problem (she's a one beer dunk).. the problem is how to keep her drunk to let me keep it... ;-) thanks so much I again David.. I know I say that all the time but I do appreciate all you have done in the last year or two to teach me all about spiders.. I got mine to over come my fear of them.. But now (through your program) I have come to really see them as very lovely creatures.. Thanks guys!

    Are her hairs thicker at the tip than at the base? It almost looks like there's dew settled on the ends. I'm sure it's not but it has that effect. It's also interesting to see the bumps and knobs on her leg joints... very clear anatomy and very cool!
