That's the one I heard in Mexico City: con-TEEN-flas. My grandfather once saw him there while visiting, Cantinflas was doing a show in one of the major parks there. The audience was huge.
It's pronounced as its spelled, just like every other word in Spanish. "Cantinflas" is an amalgamation of the words "cantina" (bar) and "inflas" (inflates) which means he would fill himself up with drinks at bars. Oddly enough, in an ironic twist, his character of Cantinflas was a man of high morals and would rarely be seen inebriated in his performances.

What an honor to have been that close to a Legendary comedian. Way before my time but was in our tvs since childhood. Same with El Chavo del 8. 🍻 En paz descansa Caninflas.😢
For non spanish speakers, Cantinflas was an HUGE movie star, with millions of followers. I dare to say he was probable more popular than David Niven himself, whom worked as the protagonist of Around The World In 80 days.
Mark Richardson I meant to say my comment was directed for non Spanish speakers. A lot of his humor was about the way he used to speak, like Groucho Marx, so most of English speakers don’t know about him. His character was a rascal, poorly dressed, always looking for job (similar as Chaplin’s Charlotte), illiterate, but he always got away with his wittiness, speaking nonstop without making any sense whatsoever, twisting or making up words, confusing people and appearing smart in his ignorance. He was one of a kind.
@Mark Richardson he's considered to be the greatest comedian not only in Mexico, but in the entire world according to the legendary comedic actor Charlie Chaplin. He was right.

I grew up watching Cantinflas, because of my mom.
I just saw a video we're they said they humiliated cantinflas. But they seemed respectful, and even tho he didn't know much english he seemed to understand parts of the question and answered with a simple yes or no. The host is also very patient and respectful. Such beautiful show and with good people. Now a days show aren't the same
Chaplin and Cantinflas, the greatest
Thanks for uploading these. I'm having a blast watching them.
I'm latin, and so I grew up watching Cantinflas , man, he was handsome!!!
WHAT!!! REALLY???
@Roger Martin that's what I say..👍
Hispanic is a better word than latin.
Um, no one really considered Cantinflas to be handsome. He was funny but not handsome.
@@tormentadeabril5 It’s not better, it just has exclusivity...it excludes Brazil and other countries where they speak a language that comes from Latin. Example: Mexicans are Hispanic and Latin, Brazilians are Latin but not Hispanic.
I adore Miss Dorothy's giggle.
I was stunned by the flagpole painter, he is a mervellous évidence of the past, a great testimony to thé Victorian age,of 19th century
Well, the good parts - life was pretty grim for some, no matter how hard they worked, and if they got sick they would be lucky not to starve. I think of him more as a man who found something he loved doing and determined to do it as long as possible.
My favorite actor of all times.❤
Cantinflas !!!!! Un grande , inigualable , único , sublime .
I don't care what anyone says, I LOVE Joey Bishop.
People who speak Spanish will know Cantinflas's real greatness!
Cantinflas was very popular in Spain too...Dorothy Killgallen a fantastic newspaper woman always defending the true :-) we love you Dorothy defending Spain from marxist conspirations
He's the greatest of all time in comedy
*Cantiflas, one of the greatest Latin artist, a proud for many Latinamericans*
anda que hermoso Cantinflas !
the women done said CAN-TIN-FLAS pronounced every letter... never heard it that way
In Latin America the pronounciation would be can-TIN-flas, for them Americans it is: CAN-tin-flas.
@@alangonzalez4980 It mostly has to do with their cultural and linguistic heritage, my friend, my name is pronounced as it is written in Spanish, but in English the pronounciation changes, though my name is not Spanish origin, but English. Good luck!
@@alangonzalez4980 yea she pronounced the American way which i never knew existed
@@rogerzimet yes just like in latin culture we have Jesus and Jesus
Cantin-Fly because he's supa dupa fly
24:37 An All-Star cast, where Cantiflas was the biggest, most unique iconic star.
The greatest!!! Cantinflas. I’m 61 and fondly remember my father taking whole family to drive in to Watch Cantinflas movies. Yellow station wagon.
This guy is a giant of comedy in Mexico and latin America
Cantinflas--still my favorite comedian. Also, I love how this individuals speak--not only in general, but towards one another. They act very cultured and low key.
que tipo tan respetable, grande cantinflas!
What an honor to have been that close to a Legendary comedian. Way before my time but was in our tvs since childhood. Same with El Chavo del 8.
Thanks for this video this one is a gem.
You're very welcome-- glad you enjoyed it!
I came here for Cantinflas, but ended up enjoying the whole show.
I know him from @around the world in 80 days”. We used to watch it every year.
loved watching his movies when i was a kid. never wouldve guessed he was well known in america. very shocked when i saw the thumbnail
wow amazing show, just pure entertainment at its finest!
60 yrs. later, can we correct this: Cantinflas was American, in fact North American. America is NOT a country, it's a continent. United States of America is the name of the country, just like Mexico is United States of Mexico.

💯% 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Very true, if someone is from Africa we say he or she is African, not He or she is Senegalese or Sudanese".
Gracias! totalmente cierto.
And that's why he corrected himself asking born in this country.
THE GREATEST ACTOR, COMEDIAN IN MEXICO...ELIZABETH TAYLORS' PADRINO. ...WHEN SHE MARRIED MIKE TODD AT CANTINFLAS' MEXICAN RANCH!!! 🙏❤🙏

It is such a pleasure seeing people with class and refinement. It is mostly absent nowadays.
No soy mexicano pero me encanta Cantinflas.
I know nothing about this show or the people in it, but this time is so pure and wonderful, it makes me sad to have never known it, and all the people in are long past
He was the greatest comedian. Broke the barriers of language and showed that even a Mexican could make it when the talent is there
Like you if skipped forward just to see my homie Cantinflas ❤❤❤
I am Central American but he was the GREATEST Mexican Actor to ever walk on this earth.
Maybe the only mystery guest I have seen bow to the crowd in appreciation of their applause
