I started watching his movies on Telemundo a couple of years ago, and while my knowledge of Spanish is spotty, I got hooked on his movies. His comedic timing is great, right up there with the likes of Lou Costello, The Three Stooges, Laurel & Hardy, and all the greats. You just don't see talent like that anymore.
@@Bigwave2003 Cantinflas made about 35 films so maybe one day you can watch some, also I don’t think Chaplin mentioned that about Cantinflas without knowing what he talking about.
One of cantinflas best movie is where he plays a priest monk, theres some deep political thought relevant to the history of Mexico, he blends it brilliantly in the narrative to actually have a debate, and exchange of ideas and political views and listening rather than polarize him from the rest of the characters.
Love this scene from "Pepe".....35 movie stars at that time did cameos for this film....it's too bad Cantinflas didn't become the big star that he was in Mexico....I thought he was very funny and really loved him in this film....I only wish it was available on a DVD....have never been able to buy it anywhere : (

I just finished watching the movie. I love Mario Moreno, but I think his character Pepe is no match for his abilities as an actor. Anyways, does anyone know how this comment system work? How do I give people's comments a thumbs up or down? How do I reply to others' comments? I don't see those buttons anymore. I am confused and this has reduced dramatically how I enjoy youtube. Does anyone have answers to my questions? Thank you kindly.
Note the not-very-subtle product placement for Coca-Cola in the background. And "Look" magazine as well. Bing's remark about "trying to catch up to his son" is sadly ironic in that his 4 sons by his first wife were extremely troubled people, two of whom ended up killing themselves.
Too bad Cantinflas comedy couldn't transcend the spanish language, it was not translatable into english. A great friend of Puerto Rico, he was asked by our great comedian José Miguel Agrelot to help raise money for the local association against cancer even though Agrelot was not aware that the wife of Cantinflas had sucumbed to the disease. He visited us every year and his comedy improvisations with Agrelot were 1-derful, I miss them.
I really doubt Chaplin ever called Cantinflas the greatest comedian. Cantinflas humor was spoken for the most part and it was impossible to translate. Even if Chaplin was fluent in Spanish, he would've needed to be extremely familiar with the mexican and/or latin american humor to get a laugh from it
Mateo Escalante same here, there’s a lot of micro aggressions here and throughout the whole film. It depicts us Mexicans in a certain way that is just not right
Yes, Hollywood didn't know how to write for Cantinflas. They took the street-wise Pelado and turned him into a stereotypical naive "Little Mexican Boy".
Cantiflas one of the greatest legends in Mexico.
In all of Latin America, not only México.

Sadly, that Mexico no longer exists.
There was a reason Charlie Chaplin called Mario Moreno "Cantinflas" the great comedian alive. He was brilliant.
We don't see that reason here. He didn't do any funny stuff.

WOW! BING CROSBY AND CANTINFLAS, TWO LEGENDS.
The best (Cantinflas’)
You should learn spanish to understand how great Cantinflas were in his movies!
Was, not were.
@David Vazquez no. Using were would be the subjunctive in English. The equivalent of saying "que él vaya" instead of "él va." Not appropriate here.
He; cantinflas was... they ; cantinflas and his friends were. Singular and plural!

Uncle Charlie had this regular job until they found that stash of vodka bottles in his locker. Then he had to move in with Steve and the boys.
