I know this is 2 years old comment but as sad as it was for mark to lose that race at the end of the day harvick won that race fair and square in my opinion. Harvick moved up from like 30th place at the back of the pack to the front in like the last 40 laps, and unless I’m misremembering I wanna say Martin also went with just 2 tires on the last pit and as for the caution…yes at the end of the day cautions would have or have been thrown for similar situations and Martin was slightly ahead at the time a caution would or should have been called but again, at the end of the day that wreck happened like on the last stretch of this last lap and it happened behind harvick and Martin and even carried the guys involved in the wreck over the finish so for Martin and harvick it was a legitimate drag race that harvick came out on top.

But I found myself here after the Haas-Rich Energy fiasco, and before I even noticed I had already watched every video from this series twice. Now my sunday just got better with this supercut.

Well done Sir!! I know at the beginning you said this video was for you, and I get it. This video was for me too. Thank you for all of the effort and more importantly thank you for helping me relive the moments. Mark Martin made me a Nascar fan when I was reluctantly watching with my friends who were Dale Earnhardt and Ricky Rudd fans around 91 (freshman in high school). I miss seeing him race, but I completely understand that he will not do it again. It was a pleasure to sit on the edge of my seat for the 20 plus years I watched or listed to Nascar, sometimes screaming at the television or radio in my car. For me personally, there is no better example of a stand up guy.

I was at the All Star race when Gordon blew up (or ran out of fuel, can't remember the official reason for his slowing) on a first date with a Gordon fan. As a Jarrett fan I of course didn't want to see that Chevy win again so when he slowed I jumped up and celebrated. Apparently my date was less than impressed as shortly after the race I was informed that it wasn't going to work between us since I disliked Gordon as much as I did.
Probably one of the best things that ever happened looking back at it now. hahaha

Have always been a peripheral NASCAR fan due to being overseas a lot etc, but my all time favorite has always been Mark Martin. An "older gentleman", always a kind word for his competitors, TONS of respect from those he competed against, loved by the entire racing community. Yeah, nice guy, but put him behind a wheel and look out. One of THE most competitive people I've ever had the pleasure to watch. But never a "cheap shot" or "revenge move", he just flat out wanted to race.
Fantastic piece, my friend, thank you. Oh, and BTW...
    OLD GUYS ROCK!!!

Thank you for making this video. I am and have always been a huge Mark Martin fan and followed his career through all of the ups and downs and I have to agree with you. Yes I would have loved to see him finally win one and in my I know he should have more than once but at the end of the day I wouldnt change a thing. I dont want him to have been the guy that wrecked people to win or that lucked into what he had. Mark was always classy on the track and he is absolutely the most respected driver in the history of the sport. Thank you again.

I’ve only really followed nascar in the last couple seasons but I can say Mark is my favourite driver I’ve heard about in nascar. The 2009 season in particular is just incredible to me, a man who was ready to retire went toe to toe with the greatest of his era and nearly took the title from him. Epic video.

This whole video just speaks to my soul. I was born in 1980 so as i got old enough to actually watch and have a legit favorite Mark Martin took off in his career and he became my favorite driver. His dignity and class and honorable nature made that decision something that i never doubted or or second guessed. This whole video is amazing and is a wonderful tribute to the legend.

This also reminds me of when i was a little kid and we were shopping in the local walmart. An employee approached my dad to ask his a question about Nascar bc he happened to be wearing a Dale Jarrett t-shirt. Well the question being, "who drives the #6 car" bc it had something to with a display idk... and blurted out "Mark Martin" and i only remembered his name bc the alliteration made it fun to say... luckly i happened to be obsessed with NASCAR Thunder 2003... Magic Carpet Ride is still stuck in my brain bc of it.

randomly....growing up... my mom worked at Winn-Dixie so she was a fan of Mark (Busch series and stuff)..... my step father was a racing fan and was really into Jeff Gordon since his rookie season. '98 was a house divided. silly rivalries aside... Mark was awesome.... you don't have to be first to be great. Mark never started drama and was always a gentleman... and one hell of a driver and person.

Awesome video, man. I was never all that in to NASCAR as a kid, but my uncle surely was and was a big Earnhardt fan. Once in a while, when I was visiting and there was a race going on, I'd join him on the couch and I still remember hearing the name Mark Martin every once in a while. Sure enough, all these years later, I see a video about him and I just can't resist. Probably one of the best long-form video essays and as an avid Destiny player, that song right at the end you used was just icing on the cake.

Back when I was a kid and knew nothing about Nascar beyond "YEAH LOUD CARS GOING FAST AND CRASHING", Mark Martin was my favorite completely because of the colors on his paintjob.
Years later thanks to you and Emp, I'm learning more about the sport than I ever knew, and rediscovering my love for the guy. The few off track interviews with him that I watched always painted him as a great, humble guy. I'm still not into Nascar enough to pick a new favorite, but I'm still happy to just keep him in the spot.
I'm loving all the Nascar content from you both. As one of many that lost all interest in the sport in recent years, it's been so fascinating to learn about the history I wasn't alive for. Thank you.
