I like the older model. The bell of the older model is stronger and it cuts more. It's darker with some stick definition. I have an older model myself and for a dry ride, the bell is strong enough to play in other musical situations.
My thoughts exactly. The original, for a main ride cymbal, is more versatile. The reissue, is lighter/darker/funkier - and is a really cool sound - BUT - it's more one-dimensional as a result. I've had the original one for almost 20 years and it's been used happily for different genres.
Recently used the older model at a jazz gig. The cymbal was great. Im not much of a super dry cymbal fan but the one i used was super dry but heavy too. Really might get one
The new one has a bell that just doesn't cut, and doesn't really seem any drier or more crashable for it. Zildjian's obsession with making sure every K ride is crashable definitely hurts them.

Newer model has a nice dark undertone.. A little "dragons breath," if you will. Better sounding jazz ride IMO. That said, the older model has a dryer sound and fits the "dry" mnemonic better. I like the newer model more, though. :)
what a novel idea to mix in the old ones they sound really great in a set!
I have one from 2015, and despite moving into more brighter sounds for jazz, that new model is something special.
I have the older model apparently. Been trying to figure that out for a while. Thank you!
Gotta say, I like the older better. But I might be biased.

old models are farrr better
@@Joshstix95 Agreed.
imo meinl has ziljian beat in the modern dry dark trashy complex style of cymbal
the "old" one! thx for the video! Really appreciate
Thanks for watching!

Older is my choice
Wow. The 2017 is soooooo much smoother. The lighter weight makes it.
Older is pingy ,more defined stick with a brighter bell sound -Newer has a mellower crash and warmer ride sound -
You're really talented at this :D
New choice for me

is the old model a " custom dry ride " without the adjective " special " before?
No, the K Custom Dry Ride was a heavier, fully unlathed cymbal.
@@bostondrum lovely, lovely sound

Hmm......hard choice. I like both but I like the older model in a lighter weight.
Owning the older 21” and the new 23” I prefer the bell on the 21 by a long way. I prefer the older 21 in this video like mist of the commentators.
200 grams apart and you're Compar...oh I forgot, its zildjian. Nevermind

Cymbal weight contributes to the sound quite a bit.
Listen with headphones. They sound quite different.
