- I waited this film for decades... I cant say, that I'm satisfied. Can't say I'm dissapointed. It was a good show, but I was expecting a bit more, after so many years of waiting. But I'm glad that they made the movie. And I'm waiting for the next one!

This is so accurate I had to like it again several years later
This movie was much better than critics reviews. The parallel sacrifices of the orc and human leaders was brilliantly done.
The problem was not with the movie itself - it was well done and very accurate to the game. The problem was that most of the critics never played WC or WoW. They ware constantly comparing this move to Lord of the rings ,how the orcs look different here (not like the LOTR). The problem is that they look just like the game , which is perfect but not for them.
The other problem is that they tried to put to much story in a short movie and didnt have time to develop the characters completely . Like the Dalaran scene -why would the Kirin Tur give access to some low lvl mage to the forbidden pleases just like that (they didn't explained it). I think that if the movie was animated instead - it would of had much bigger score.
Yup problem of any movie made of a source that is from outside of the movie industry or is simply unknown to most people. There already goes over the critics heads the pros like movie staying true to the source material cause they simply wont see it.
But there is also an interesting case coming that is kinda reversed. Cause when the witcher tv series will drop people will compare it to the video game cause thats what most critics will know, meanwhile they are non canon to the plot of the series and has 0 influence on it, even if they were (being set way after the books plot). It's gonna be funny to see those reviews as wel.
Professional critic is a nice way of saying basement dwellers. The movie profit margin was positive that’s all that matters even though they twiggled a bit with a lore such as, not showing that Garona was the agent of guldan, that llane wasn’t murdered in the battle but in the stormwind keep and that khadgar didn’t age, it’s fine I don’t care I fucking loved every bit of movie
I'm not into games, so I never played WOW - I didn't even know that it is about Orcs and Humans and Mages and so on. But I decided that the idea of making a game into a movie sounded really cool and due the fact that I like fantasy I thought I might give it a try.
It was - for me - absolutely worth it. I loved the actors, I liked the plot a lot, the music was brilliant and the effects/CGI were sometimes kinda 'special' but they fit the movie veeeery well, and I (even thought I new nothing about WOW) did understand most of the movie just perfectly, even without any WOW knowledge.
Sure - I've no idea who or what Kirin Tur is/does/mean. And I don't understand why there is only 1 apprentice to the greatest mage of all. The idea of him living in a tower sure has a reason, which I didn't catch and I'm unsure what exaclty the (sry) kind of swimming-pool-power-bar in that tower is.
BUT - all of that didn't give me trouble understanding the movie. And that was great. Cause all of the WOW players know the stuff I'm writing above and it's just fair that they know and understand and maybe dwell on the fact that this and that detail found place in the movie. Cause after all this movie was inspired by a game. A game that only became so pupular because of all its gamers.
So...I'm still looking forward the part 2 and 3. Maybe in vain. Hopfully not.

If the movie is a free adaptation (like RE, silent hill etc) most fans would ne disapointed, but if they made it exactly like the actual game, critics whose never played the game would've said its a trash movie... I played wc2 - wc3 and tought this movie was accurate enough for hours of campaign story gameplay crammed into 120 minutes movie, what more can we expect....
I really like how they portrayed magic or at least its use on film. The special effects for the magic was fantastic.
The most realistoc magic ive ever seen in CGI, as far as magic can be realistic.

Its actually quite hard to come up with arguments regarding what looks realistic and what not.

I never understood the grief that this movie got from people, I am a die hard fan of this series and have digested FAR FAR FAR to much of its lore and yet I loved this movie and I'm not afraid to say it! The TLC thrown into every scene, the little easter eggs for people to find... it all so lovingly done,I cherish this movie and i PRAY they deem it worthy enough for a sequel some day.
For me (as a lore fan as well) that in, lies the problem. There won't be a sequel because they crammed SO MUCH into this and therefore unless they go into a different section of lore... They won't continue. This had so many changes to it that altered the real lore and because of that, it would be hard to keep going.
Shame, I was really excited for and still enjoy it for the effort they put in. Overall, it's a gorgeous film. The details and iconic images made me gush when I saw it in the theater... But the things they changed made me disappointed.
only problem is that we got 1 movie rather than 3 and you should understand that as well :D

But as someone who loves lore and been learning about warcraft lore for a couple of years they definitely tried to cram alot In this. When they could of just made it into a trilogy like lotr or Harry Potter.
The lore may not be accurate like in the game and books but I don't really blame them for altering some stuff due to some of the viewers being newcomers but also trying to appeal to those who played the games and read the books.

The only real problem with this movie is it didn't spend enough time explaining anything hardly, a lot of it assumed you knew of warcraft lore beforehand, and other stuff that wasn't really explained well
LOTR did a very good job of explaining the backstory in the movies, Warcraft didn't say anything

They should've done Arthus/Lich King movie. Would've been better.
It would've explained that Arthus a prince is out to solve whatever's happening on the countryside or whatever (I forgot the story...)
The undead turning up in the village being fed rigged foods which turns them into undead. And it would've been a better storyline/movie.
Even then, as a veteran from the second Warcraft game (really the first but w/e ) I was so confused for most of the movie. They changed the story so much that I got lost 3/4 of the way through.
The spells cast by possessed Medivh are golden and look much more precise and refined than the rest of the arcane-blue-ish spells cast by Khadgar and normal Medivh, I'm guessing this is what titan level of spell casting looks like in the cinematic universe. Awesome bit of detail and lore right fucking there.

Forget about the humans. The CGI was amazing. Esp the ORCS and the magic.
And human soldiers' animation, and the griffon in particular, is insane. 100% lifelike.

I think the fel made it dead, he just removed the fel and the dead is all that remained... but yeah, I love the level up scene!!! I was half expecting Lothar to say "grats" when he walked up to him 😂
@@sundorlawrecki3499 I think it was pre-alpha level up effect actually (Khadgar was one of the main testers). Blizzard patched it pretty quick tho, since obviously it was nasty bug. Data remained in the files tho, since it was such a bad bug, Blizzard couldn't completely remove it, so they just renamed it "Fel" and added it in the lore so that it wouldn't be too odd to see things being blown up by those rare pre-alpha testers who actually managed to get level ups... 🤔

So this was the scene where Sargeras have a full control of Medivh's body.. If only the majority of people knew the Warcraft's lore, they'd really appreciate this movie like I do. Fantastic movie.

In the original story, Lothar decapitated Medivh, so the decapitated golem did make sense for a cinematic version of this. Another detail Duncan Jones got right in his own way.
This movie was honestly pretty good. There were some things that weren't correct with the game's lore, and that did disappoint me, but overall I enjoyed a lot more about the movie than I disliked. This fight was easily my favorite part.
Well, it's an adaptation. Things ARE going to be different. If it's exactly like the source material, then there's no point in it being an adaptation. You want exactly the same thing as the games...then play the games.

It was beyond awesome
It isn't terrible - but could've been better. The story was fine as it mostly follows the lore, but the live action sometimes didn't look very good, and blizzard has always been known for their cinematic looks. Battle for Azeroth (and all the cinematics before it) look amazing, the CGI is beautiful - but the live action aspect I feel detracts some from the majesty of the CGI.
I thought the story kinda feel to short and less action scene, with cgi like that they can maximized the action scene and bring back LOTR vibe. Its was really good live action movie that adapted from the game.

Those 'idiots' probably see how rushed it is, how boring the characters are (save for Durotan, maybe) and how much crap the lore had to take to make it happen.
All for some pretty picture, which is more or less all this movie is about. Which isn't enough to even call it good, let alone 'awesome'.

There are two things keeping this movie from being fantastic: the first one is a bit of context about what's going on. If someone is unfamiliar with the lore, he will scratch his head to every little thing happening. The second thing, of course, is the contemporary trend of unnecessary, cringy constant sarcasm that producers think that people find funny.
Agree. Some preposition about the Burning Legion or Sargeras would have made Medivh's sudden turn to evil and his metamorphosis less confusing.
It’s missing midhv’s flashback story of how he became possessed. And how his mother sealed away that demon (forgot his name).
But I like the mystery aspect of it.
This movie needed another hour tbh. I kinda wanted to see the horde overrun storm wind.

I think we all knew full and well that warcraft lore would have to be drastically restructured to adapt to cinema. For what they had to work with this movie was actually pretty good. Although I'm sure that blizzcon redshirt guy would adamantly disagree.

This was where this movie didn't cut it. The beginning of the movie was very promising as his face was telling the audience that he's been through many moments of despair, and when we reached this part, they shifted gears from serious to a slight comedic vibe.
Well said, although I thought the beginning was the weakest and most disjointed part of the movie (sans the orc stuff). There's just too much ground to cover and the beginning rushes from one point to another.
I'm a Warcraft and WoW fan. And I read some of the books. So I freaking loved this movie. But I do understand why people who didn't play any of the games and know nothing about the lore and the universe of wc at all, were confused. Personally I think, that Thralls story would have been a better entry point, because of all the character development and hints you could have put into that movie and then making this movie as a prequel and then going on either with thralls storyline, rising of the horde, or Anduin Lothars story. Still I hope they will make at least one more movie in this universe.

Exactly the setting and the story of this movie is before everything that really makes wow, wow! I woulda rather went with thrall story so then comes thrall, ILLIDAN,even GARROSH ( woulda been way better of a warchief than the one they got in this movie), arthas, REXXAR, SYLVANUS and many more important characters than guldan
It's too vast. A Warcraft intro movie would have to be 4 hours, then this movie, then maybe 3 more movies.

Underrated movie
The most problems I had with this movie came from comparing it's lore with the main timeline.
Legend has it he’s taking the the hobbits to Isengard...
The actors in this movie deserved so much better.

I don’t understand how medivh was possessed by a demon and killed when he’s the one that’s supposed to be the one to eventually bring the horde and alliance together to fight the burning legion. Or am I missing something?

The evil Medivh dies which is the one we see here in this movie. After he wakes up from a 20 year coma, that was induced at the age of 14, Anduin Lothar and Khadgar kill him in Kharazan for bringing Demons back to Azeroth after they were defeated during the events of The Sundering and the Night elf campaign against the legion 1000's of years ago. (Also the Legion wants to eradicate all life in the universe) So then Aegwynn, his mother, hears of her son's death and uses the last of her power to bring Medivh back to life but this time he's not possessed by the Demon Lord and Khadgar goes around destroying dark portals. All of this is Warcraft2-ish era. In Warcraft3 he returns in his alternative form and brings Jaina Proudmoore, Thrall, Cairne and Malfurion together in a successful military campaign against the Burning Legion and defending the World Tree, which is the source of the night elves immortality. He then disappears after these events and no one has heard of his whereabouts in all of Azeroth for a long time leaving some to speculate that he may return in the future. The online RPG, World of Warcraft, starts after the Lich King returns to Northrend incase you're confused so this movie is actually showing events that occur before the games take place. But then later adventurers find that the Old Gods had influence over some of the events we see here in this movie.
I definitely have a big chunk of lore I’ve missed out on I’m more knowledgeable WC3 and after that, I use to read the book that came with WC3 that had a lot of the lore written down been a huge fan of the game and history ever since,
Medivh is already possessed before birth, see the wiki for more lore (that was damn long lore)

I don't understand why they rushed the major plot lines. They could have easily made multiple warcraft movies out of this one, highly condensed movie alone. Character development was rushed. I mean with the extensive lore in WoW, they could shoot a series that would span 4 or 5 seasons. Easily. Then they still have the lich king & legion to expand upon. Warcraft could probably last 20 seasons with the right writers. Then you still have expansions they're currently working on which would be done & explained by the time they even got to it lol Such a missed opportunity for a quick buck. I mean it's a decent movie but damn.. warcraft lore gets pretty deep. Y'all didn't use it to it's full potential.

Movie had so much potential. It needed a stronger cast and better CGI. Other option would have been to do the whole movie like the cut scenes in the game.
