Clifton hicks is a hero of mine. I started to play banjo found his channel on UA-cam, now im obsessed. Play 1-2 hours a night 2 finger 3 finger learning claw hammer. I have PTSD eyes tics not from war but from savings lives. It should make one feel good saving people life. It causes me trouble...Trouble on my mind... Greatest advice dont bottle it up...do art... and seek help in, my case therapy...also dont do drugs to mask it
This must be a thing 😁 I recently stumbled onto him through ol Leather Stocking and now I am on the same journey. This man is authentic in both music and personality. 👍🏻
Josh, I feel you. Same here, combat medic in the armed forces, later paramedic and now nurse. Helping ppl isnt a nad thing - you just need to find a way to cope with it.
josh and GreX, thank you for taking care of others, without people like you mankind would have come to an end a long time ago! I've had some trauma in my life that took me a long time to get over, and I still have rough days, but most of my grief was self-inflicted; obviously quite different from your experiences. The three things that got me through were: ~Support from family, or better yet, people who understood my problems. ~Outlets that are productive, like woodwork - something for my hands to do that gave me time to calmly process thoughts (banjo is probably similar). ~Jesus Christ. I know some people don't like to hear this, but the paradigm shift when I went from being an atheist to a believer really changed my outlook, and when I accepted Him as my Saviour, it was like a cloud that had been hanging over me just blew away. Sorry for being preachy, but it comes from a good intention, so I hope you'll forgive me! I'll be praying for you all, much love and God bless to caring people, and banjo-lovers everywhere : )
I want him to live a life of prosperity without the burden of the public eye. Wish him well in life and pray for blessings to come his way. That is probably the best thing we can all do for Gems like Cliff.
Funny, I think he sounds somewhat good but also somewhat unconvincing. Compare the way he sings thing compared to how someone like Doc Watson would sing it and you might understand what I mean.
@@raydavies4160 f them to hell? You're no better than them for saying that. Hell is a real place of torment and separation from God where the unsaved will spend eternity. If you trust Jesus as savior you will be saved from that place.
I like these lyrics more than what I've seen cited as the original. It is a more sobering and thought provoking portrayal of war in my opinion. Great work, Clifton.
I can't believe this doesn't have a million views, it's such a powerful song and perfect rendition. Hearing this song is what made me want to play the banjo. I had no idea these sounds could come from the instrument. I like many others only think of bluegrass when thinking of the banjo, and I can't stand that sound or style.
Bluegrass banjo can be awesome, even country banjo. Just open your mind a little. I mostly listen to bands like Slayer and Megadeth, but I love me some folk banjo. Any style of music done well is good music.
@robertpaulson2842 I just disagree completely. I used to jam metal, and slayer was one of my favorite bands at one point. But bluegrass just sucks in my opinion. It's too fast, full of hipsters, and soulless to my ear. I get that other people enjoy it, but it ain't for me. The same goes for jazz, I can't stand it. It sounds like musical masturbation to me. Undoubtedly, it takes skill to play, but I can't stand listening to it.
No war hero or something like that here. Just a dutch man working with all kinds of mentally handicapped people the last 20 years, in between sweeping chimneys and bending metal plates. Anyway, I was absolutely mesmerised by this. Awesome, Clifton always grabs me. Love that open back also! I wonder what brand that is. Cheers from NL
It appears to be a banjo from the Pisgah Banjo Company in Asheville, NC. It also appears to be their Wonder model, but it could be different as they make a lot of custom banjos.
No offense to you brother.... but humanity has become too docile and obedient to moma .... when a alpha comes along they think they are beta appearances and not me for the flames
Long version. People have become weak and docile . Clinging to the tit . With no true life experiences . Making assumptions and judgements. Ignorantly Saying" what they would do" in a hypothetical situation. Not knowing you never can truely say what you will do when facing the actual situation. So foolishly they pass judgment on others actions . If only to empower themselves and inflate their personal self worth . While all the time not knowing a better man might stand before them . ??? Thats what i belive i was trying to say . But dont worry when i read it sober even i was confussed .... didnt even recall the song or comment . But dont fret im good for that and not only on ther interweb.
And not me for the flames ... probly something along the lines of . Home im not really ready to face the flames of hell im sure are coming when i die .. even if i like to tell myself i am . Really i am just too damn weak to change the things i can . Calling myself accepting what i cant change .

I started learning banjo because of Clifton. This guy's great.
Amazing! You are a national treasure. Thank you for keeping these voices alive, Clifton.
As always, Clifton’s great
Always love his rendition of this song.
Man, it took forever for this to pop up…and I’m a daily Clifton Hicks listener and this is my neck of the woods…”Tri Cities”.
