I have shot Red Stags in Scotland. During the Rut it is haunting to here the sound of the Stags roaring in the Mountains. Fwiw female Reds are called Hinds.

They shoot them with a 243 to 308 in Aust and NZ so 06 shouldn’t be a problem.

The 30-06 is a good choice for Red Stag or Moose, Elk, Mule deer and Whitetail. Personally I've taken Moose, Mule deer, Whitetail and black bear with the 30-06. Congrats on your Red Stag that's an animal I'd love to hunt.
What do you use for the larger game? 180gr, or more?
@@airmobiledivision7759 I use 165 to 180gr on Moose ,Deer and Bear and a buddy of mine uses 165gr on everything except his Grizzly and he used Speer Grand Slam 200gr for it.

I usually try and put my shot on Moose or deer behind the front shoulder or if they're close enough and I've got a good solid rest then I'll take a neck shot. With Bear I pretty much always put my shot behind the front shoulder also but I have shot a couple of them in the neck at close range. Moose aren't usually hard to put down, pound for pound Elk are way harder to put down than Moose even with perfect shot placement at times.
When in doubt grab a thirty-ought-six.

30/06 might be old, but I thinks it’s the best all around North American round. 150, 165, and 180gr will cover just about anything.
Taken 2 deer this month with the 30-06. It’s my favorite. Shot both in the neck, both took a half a step and dropped. No chasing, minimum damage to the meat. Will be go to for deer hunting.
The 30-06 is also a great black bear or grizzly bear gun

Hard to beat a good ole 30-06. I tend to lean twords 180 grain as a all around choice because it does better in brush than the 150 and flatter in the open than the 200and220 stuff that's hard to find now. My experience anyway. Lol ether way good deer brother and great experience for you and the boys. Next year your daughter is going to want to stalk one down with ya.

This is awesome. I thought this was a quick bang bang channel. Yet here we are hunting stags in Texas. We got whitetail and mule up here in Alberta Canada. I've already been out once. Can't wait to go again. Wish we had those here. And those white ones that were around when your son shot one a few days ago.

I took my first whitetail with a 30-06, it was my biggest deer, it was a huge 8 point. Ain't nothing wrong with a 30-06. I hunt with a 308 now just because it's what I got. I got a .243 also, but I haven't hunted with it yet, I haven't had it long.

Great video and beautiful stag! Years ago, we had an entire herd escape from a preserve here in Claiborne County, Tennessee due to a severe storm laying a tree over the fence. They made them fair game after a while, but I wasn't fortunate enough to have permission in any of the areas. No one has seen one in quite a while. I saw a group once from the highway in a hayfield. It was awesome! Congratulations and thanks!

Red Stag looks to be about the size of Caribou. 30-06 is probably the best choice for all around big game animals. Congrats on a the stag. I bet he is going to be delicious. Show us the mount when you get it back.

Well done! Madjestic Red Stag. If you use the right tools you get the job done ,. Just bought 2 older Rugers 270 and a 243 both skeleton stocks from the 90's didn't know a thing about Ruger until I spotted them both and looked it up on youtube,Never been so pleased about a purchase.
When I first saw that “boat paddle” stock back in the day, I was appalled! Now, they are very much desired and increasing in value! The few I bump into at gun shows always have a good price on them. I’ve heard they are held in high esteem in Alaska!

30-06 is a great cartridge I had a couple 30-06 and liked it but when Ohio started allowing straight walled rifle cartridges I favored the 45-70 but Still love the 30-30 and wish Ohio would allow it for deer hunting season but can't get

Not many men would admit to using a Bushnell in this day and age. I commend you in your adherence to what just works.

I ran out of time this year ,was trying to get my 35 whelen but didn't make it instead took a good 9 point buck with 308 done a great job but itching to try out the 35
That's a decent red stag for here in the States. I know you would agree that I'd love to go to New Zealand and hunt one of those monsters with crowns at the end of each antler. Meat is a lot like elk. Great eating!! Congrats to you and your little men on one heck of a hunt, Adam!! Chasing deer in archery again Monday in Pennsylvania. Only a few Sundays are open to deer hunting. Tomorrow isn't one of them, lol.

@@haydenplayyz515 tell me about it. We have mule deer where I farm. They’re bigger than whitetail. Some practically live on the farm road. Even driving slow at night, you have to watch out because they come running out of the dark full speed. I have a heavy duty grill guard and front bumper replacement out of heavy steel on my pickup and it’s money well spent. If it saves your radiator, it can let you drive it while the body shop can get all the parts in until you have to give it up. I hit a big, heavy buck a few years ago on the highway and it rejected it good, with no damage! Then a couple of years ago, one was running full out and hit me! It hit the thin Detroit steel on the fender and came around and caved my door in as well! They’re a constant threat!
