Some interesting background on this song...The guitar he is playing here is named "Lenny" after his wife Lenora. He saw this guitar in a pawn shop and couldn't afford it at the time. I believe it was $350. His wife got their friends to chip in together and she presented him with this guitar as a surprise for his birthday. He was so overcome that he sat at the foot of their bed and composed this song all night to express his love and gratitude for her. He played it for her the next morning. Notice how he is seated here just as he was when he composed it. His eyes are closed the entire song like he is back in that moment. After the song is finished he opens his eyes and it's almost like he forgot the crowd was even there. Can you imagine someone expressing their love for you like this??? Magnificent.
Regarding the cigarette...I once saw someone post this:
"You may be cool, but you'll never be Stevie Ray Vaughan smoking a cigarette playing Lenny cool."
I saw this on another site - supposedly SRV went to the crossroads - no one knows what SRV got, but the devil got guitar lessons
💕💕
Love this comment ❤
For me listing to Steve Ray VAUGHN feels like a soul to soul connection through his guitar.
That puff of smoke at 5:11 with the playing gives me chills every time i see it 😂
They say that the guitar strings are the mirror of the vocal cords. SRV. The most delicious master of that. Says everything with those strings without saying a single word. Unequalled really. Nobody excelled him, he could play the pants of anything Thznk you Stevie for the big fat smile on my face when I hear you play
This performance was the first time I had laid ears or eyes on SRV, years ago. It was to this day, the only REAL "spiritual experience" I have ever received. It really fucked with my emotions afterwards. The camera work here really adds to that. He truly ascends somewhere while playing this song. An absolute masterpiece of a song and performance.
NO WAY NOBODY BETTER THAN MY STEVIE RAY ❤❤❤❤
Everything he touched was a masterpiece there will never be another like him he was truly amazing
For me when watching videos of Stevie play, from the first note it feels like he has gone otherworldly, him and his guitar. His genius musicality takes you along on the journey but he's ever conscious that he is playing for an audience ... kind of like being on two separate but conjoined planes.
Maybe this makes sense only to me or it makes no sense at all but I feel such euphoric emotions.
SRV, the greatest musical master I had the honor and pleasure to see shortly before his demise, August 27, 1990 and each year after will forever be one the most emotionally draining days second only to the death of my son. Rest in peace always.
You said enough when you said "unparalleled". That is perfectly put.
I don't know what makes someone the greatest guitarist of all time, but I know that for me, there is nobody else that comes close to Stevie.
And the ones that do get close are still light years away.
Totally agree.
His wife’s name was Lenora. He named one of his guitars Lenny as well as this song after her. MBD you’re appreciation of Stevie’s technical ability is great. Your explanation of gauge of his strings hopefully enlightens people to how hard it is to play like he did. Definitely do Texas Flood live from El Macombo. You’ll love it. R.I.P. SRV 👍👍👍👍
Roy Temple the guitar he played the song with in the video is Lenny. The red Stratocaster bought for him by his wife Lenny.
Please!!
Like others have said - 'Texas Flood' from this concert - this is a quote I found online from Eric Clapton on Stevie Ray - Eric Clapton I don't think anyone has commanded my respect more, to this day. The first time I heard Stevie Ray, I thought, "Whoever this is, he is going to shake the world." I was in my car and I remember thinking, I have to find out, before the day is over, who that guitar player is. That doesn't happen to me very often, that I get that way about listening to music. I mean, about three or four times in my life I've felt that way, in a car, listening to the radio, where I've stopped the car, pulled over, listened, and thought, I've got to find out before the end of the day, not, you know, sooner or later, but I have to know NOW who that is.
...and I remember being fascinated by the fact that he never, ever seemed to be...lost in any way...It was as though he never took a breather...or took a pause to think where he was gonna go next, it just flowed out of him. It's going to be a long time before anyone that brilliant will come along again.
I didn't get to see or hear Stevie play near often enough, but every time I did I got chills and knew I was in the presence of greatness. He seemed to be an open channel and music just flowed through him. It never seemed to dry up.
I have to tell this story: We played on the same bill on his last two gigs. On the first night, I watched his set for about half an hour and then I had to leave because I couldn't handle it!. I knew enough to know that his playing was just going to get better and better. His set had started, he was like two or three songs in, and I suddenly got this flash that I'd experienced before so many times whenever I'd seen him play, which was that he was like a channel. One of the purest channels I've ever seen, where everything he sang and played flowed straight down from heaven. Almost like one of those mystic Sufi guys with one finger pointing up and one finger down. That's what it was like to listen to. And I had to leave just to preserve some kind of sanity or confidence in myself.
@Talkin Bout Nawlins -just something I read on the net- and yes, I love living in Texas
His wife's name was Lenora, Lenny for short. Unfortunately they got divorced. Sounds very Hendrix-esque; love this song! Stevie played with such incredible feeling; David Gilmour also does, but in a different way. I am the same age as SRV and a huge fan, so it hit me hard when he died. Such a huge loss for the world when we lost Stevie. Sounded great, btw!
Lenny said I never heard that snore but I did hear em play that God Damn Guitar. When you can play in your sleep literally your fuckin' good 👍
Yours is the most intellectually and emotionally honest and accurate assessment of Stevie’s other worldly talent.
Really need to watch Texas Flood @ el Mocambo
My favorite. Hell yes react to it. Epic.
Still waiting for this one! He won’t speak at all! 😂

Albert King was Stevie's legal godfather, he loved him deeply. He would say"only one white boy got a black daddy ". There will never, ever be a guitar slinger, not player, slinger like srv. His playing, his feel, the way he attacked that guitar, like throw it on the bed and fucks it, then tenderly makes love with it. Brings tears to my eyes every time I hear him and double trouble.
Im 60 .. seen stevie live 3times i stil to this day get a tear in my eyes listening and thinking what could of been ... thank you stevie for what you gave us .... RIP ,....
This is from the period when Stevie was playing those telephone line strings....
steve lucero 13 gauge in The book I read. Insane
Rene said when he met stevie he was using 17 guage strings at the time and there wasnt anything bigger than a 60 gauge low e so his set would be 17-17-20p-36w-52w-60w according to rene Martinez
@@frankiesilverman I use 11,s . His finger and hand strength was phenomenal. To bend cables they way he did. Fuck I miss him.
You should check out Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughn in session. They both perform their own music and play each other's and they talk between the songs. It's a very good watch
Dudeman Bro Definitely watch that session..I watch at least once a month
Man... you're so right. Anything to have been there.
Love any Stevie!! Enjoy your reactions!
You have the perfect reaction to Stevie every time..You get him💞💞 Try Tin Pan Alley this time live in Japan!!. Thanks for great review!
Texas Flood - live at the El Mocambo. do it. One of the best recordings captured on film.
'The Mozart of our time'..... excellent comment. Watching SRV is probably exactly what it would have been like watching Mozart doing a solo performance on the piano, at any point in his life.
Pure genius.
You don't watch Stevie Ray reaction videos to hear what they think of his music. You watch them to see the Awe and the stank face.
Lenny and Rivera Paradise are too be played at my funeral. They are my two favorite SRV songs.
Masterclass in play by one of the best Blue guitarist ever. Fuck yes
Thank you for your analysis I have learned a lot from your reactions you are awesome I grew up listening to SRV Iin my option he is the absolute GOAT for just the reason you said it is like he has a cord running from his heart to his guitar there will never be another SRV RIP Brother
Goat! Please do Texas Flood from El Mocomba!!
love your reactions for SRV--you need to check out his unplugged performance-he does it on a 12 string acoustic-does anyone know what happens in the "Little wing" reaction at about the 1054 mark-he has a surprised look on his face and then smiles at Tommy Shannon
Eric Clapton said he was like an open channel. Clapton said he had to think where he was going next but Stevie never seemed lost. Pretty high praise
h was such a friend and so cool he was amazing
The one thing no one mentions is that he did all of this so doped up the the normal man couldnt even function much less do that. What a gift he was given!!!
He wrote this for second wife Lenora(#1 First Wife was the name of his beat up Strat). Story is she got it out of hock for him and he sat down on the end of their bed and composed this. They divorced and he had a last time he played Lenny. A genius.
Love Stevie ....to me he is the best to do it 👍❤️ jimmy Vaughn (brother) awesome guitarist too 👍
Stevie was so one with his ax that it was an extension of his body. His guitar was an appendage equal to one of his arms. He didn’t ever have to think about where the string he was plucking was or where his fingers were on the fret board. He channeled music strait through his soul.
"Lenny" was his wife's (Lenora) nickname
This is in my top three SRV performances. Top two being Riviera Paradise and Little Wing but, it's a close call.
The hands of God. Love the Mozart comparison.
Was lucky enough to know about SRV from the start in 83-4. Knew somebody who experienced the Austin music scene before fame hit.
Thanks for helping me, a non musician, find the technical words to describe what emotionally hooked me into SRV & other artist you react to. There's an arc in his slow blues. Lenny was followed by Riveria Paradise.
His brother Jimmie and the rest of the musicians he played with the night he died did a tribute show and I can't remember who said that Stevie was an open channel and the music just flowed through him
Eric Clapton
Good reaction, and I'm glad that you let the video do most of the talking. I'm so pleased, as a guitar player, to see a generation of music lovers discovering the genius that was Stevie Ray. He gives us all something to aspire to. Like Houston Oiler's coach Bum Phillips once said of Earl Campbell, "He may not be in a class by himself, but it doesn't take long to call the role."
Rivera Paradise sooo beautiful, please check it out. SRV just the best.
He was given this song in a dream , woke up and played it for Lenny.
I love this song it shows his love for music. His playing really is in his soul he moves me so.I just bought one of his CDs love it.
Yeah, his wife was Lenora Darlene Bailey, but everyone called her Lenny.
More SRV please!! It’s always better watching and actual musician react to Stevie! 👍🏻.
you really should do Texas Flood live at El Mocambo.. will blow your mind :) it does mine every time.
I think many get it wrong, when saying SRV was a blues player, and leave it at that. I've always thought of him as a JAZZ musician! The main reason being, go and listen to other versions of any of his tunes, at a different show, you HEAR the differences! One fine example is this tune "Lenny" It is posted by srvguitarlegend and the title of his clip is this.........Stevie Ray Vaughan - Playing Lenny for the Last Time! .......... Quite a few parts are so different from this version. It happens every time i check out SRV live. A JAZZ musician does this every night. There is one guy, that also does this unique solo's being different every night, and that would be Derek Trucks.!! A great example is by listening to different shows of their tune called "Midnight in Harlem" To this day, i've listened to at least 100 versions, and damn if the guy doesn't surprise me every time! SRV was the same way.
I love your reaction to this. He did play from his soul. Lenny (Lenore) was his wife. They divorced/separated around the time of his sobriety. Loved her dearly, which is clear when you hear this song, but their relationship was a destructive one. Stevie met and fell in love with Janna Lapidus shortly before he hit his rock bottom. It was Janna and his Mama that he asked for when he was in bad shape and ready to get right. He and Janna were together for his sober years, sadly only four. They were engaged at the time of his death. He told me it was his first relationship clean and sober, and it was very different. He said he really had to learn how to be in a healthy relationship. Anyway, keep exploring Stevie’s music! How about, “Mary Had a Little Lamb” from Austin 1989. You’ll love it!
Stevie was a very eloquent speaker...Through his guitar.
This is literally the first video I’ve seen with no dislikes, Rest In Peace angelito stevie
Check out Life Without you live at Capital Theater in NJ. He plays behind his back, and with his teeth.
I saw him play this live in 85. My jaw is still on the floor.
Unparalleled is correct
It would have been a honour to be around him on a daily basis just to hear him noodle.
Hello!
Please react to Stevie Ray Vaughan - Life without you Passaic, NJ.
Spad if you’re gonna do Life Without You, his New Orleans Jazzfest performance is the best version. IMO
Love the channel. SRV was a huge inspiration to me and I can only hope to be as good as he was for just a few seconds at a time. With that said I would like to see you react to some music I have gotten into over the past few years. One in particular is JJ Grey and Mofro. The songs he and his band do are great. He is a songwriter and very talented on many instruments guitar drums and harmonica as well. His style is rooted in blues but has some influence from southern rock, but his voice has so much soul and tone it can bring out the emotion of the lyrics to a different level. Thanks for the considerate reviews I have been bing watching your channel for a while and like the content. Keep on keeping on. Some others in the same vein are North Mississippi Allstars. The lead singer and guitarist played for the Black Crowes for a while. Another is Marc Broussard his album SOS 2 is full of awesome covers of soul classics. Also all of these guy’s come together and play each other’s songs on the same stage from time to time. They are just some great musicians and sound great together.
Two videos of Stevie Ray Vaughan that are different: one is funny Cold Shot original video and one he talks with a message Life Without You at Capitol Theatre..would love to see your reaction to these for anniversary of his death 9/27. Thanks💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
Hey Mr.! Have you ever seen the video of Hendrix playing 12 string blues? On the unedited version he played some epic stuff for about 30 seconds and decided to start over. What a legend!
All that while holding the tremolo bar in his left hand
MBD you need to check out SRV and Jeff Healey playing "look at little sister" . Mind blowing!!!
The best that ever played
That was amazing....
His wife wasn’t Lenny...his guitar was. He took that girl to the damn prom!!! Keep on keeping on. Dig your stuff.
Lol...ok, but Lenny was a totally his wife. The song was written for her
He’s the G.O.A.T.
8:15 to 9:10 has always been my favorite part of this song.
Her name was Lenora but Stevie called her Lenny and it stuck Everybody knew er as Lenny after that.
Lenora was her name. But Stevie caled her Lenny and it struck. Everybody call's her Lenny. Nobody knows her real name. The guitar he's playin' is called Lenny.
NOW THAT'S A PERFECT REACTION. NICE...
He could really make that strat sing,...
Check out his song Riviera Paradise. Peaceful beautiful perfection.
Love it! Hope you're all settled in!
Devin The Dude- Boo Boo'n
Thanks bro
My sentiments 😎🎸
Yes, his trills, like everything else he does have the ebb and flow of his soul! That's why, even though he may overuse them in certain songs, they're not just gimmicky, if that makes any sense! They add to rather than just being useless filler!
Yeah... the GOAT.
1st time I saw him he would come set on the edge and do this!!! no it was'nt i want to hear this song!!!
His wife's name is Lenore.
All you have to say is Stevie...
Great reaction! Can you cover "I Was Wrong" by Chris Stapleton .. Cheers!
Very eloquently put, you did find the words.
El mocambo texas flood pls hi from london👍great work
I remember the day Stevie Ray died. It was a real loss.
Yes . . . . . her nickname was Lenny.
Stevie played this tribute to his wife Lenny so beautifully, but their divorce was so bitter that he came to a point to where he never played this song again.
Love your channel , would you react to something off Tools lates album Fear Inoculum , the title song or 7empest . Thanks bro .
Stevie and Jimmy Page are my favorite guitarist.
Stevie didn't play music Stevie was music.
check out Cadillac Three THE SOUTH & PARTY LIKE YOU TY
Lenora = Lenny
Ephemeral, sublime, gossamer...otherw0rldly....ineffable...
I always thought this would make a great album cover
psychedelic Hawaiian sounding blues
There are faster, louder, randier, that with their soul pouring through steel strings hammering trills that are frantic and flapping on a hot tar boards, with lead rifts that spin and blow piles of rhythms in the air. Its not enough to have connection to the soul -- That soul must also have something to say. Only then are you at SRVs level -- and then none of this matters.
his wife is i believe lenora and they call her lenny
I get caught up in periods where he is all I listen to and I find myself getting real sad that he's gone. Too much of him at times feels a bit sadistic.
I am not disagreeing with you but, better blues guitarists? Who and in what ways?
You picked up the dog like Alex Lifeson picked up the dog barking in that Rush song, can't remember the name of the song but it's one of their big songs.
When are you gonna get to some Ozzy with Randy Rhodes, like Suicide Solution from the Tribute album
your bass on the microphone is so heavy that I suspect you sound like a mouse if you took it off :D
