This IS Yoshiki. Yoshiki is the founder of the band, and no one replaces him. Video from 1989, then he had long hair and he was on drums. X were renamed in 1993 to X Japan, because they wanted to gain popularity in America at that time, but they did not succeed in many things, and they renamed because at that time the X group already existed, so that there was no embarrassment with the names. Hide is a guitarist with the same guitar from the IV video. A sad story happened to him in 1998, in the morning, intoxicated, he tried to stretch his neck on the doorknob with a towel, because he was tormented by the pain from the guitar strap. He accidentally strangled himself and could not be saved. Fifty thousand people attended his funeral. On my own I recommend the song Silent Jealousy. The documentary is called We Are X.
Thank you for this! 🤘 I am still so new to the world of X Japan and still learning (as I noted in my own comment) so info from an original fan is appreciated. Isn't the video for Silent Jealousy the one where Yoshiki is making out with a chick and he's naked at the end????
@@MissAlthea Your welcome 👍 I've been a fan since December 2019, which is not that long ago. But I already know a lot about the band. Yes, this is the same clip with Yoshiki where he was on the sand. And rumors that it was his ex-girlfriend whom he dated in 1993 (although how could she appear in the 1991 video), but in the face they do not look alike. Google Shizuka Kudo
@@seinarumori1111 I thought the girl in the (Silent Jealousy) video didn't even look to be Japanese or so much as as Asian, period...and you are right, regardless of her background, she sure does not like Shizuka (who I did Google!). The plot thickens!!
@@MissAlthea Yes, that's for sure. But if you google Yoshiki and Shizuka Kudo, then in the pictures there will be a couple of promo photos for the magazine, where Yoshiki is standing with a girl in a red dress who does not at all look like a Shizuka, although she is also kind of asian. So, people have already confused themselves. I think they just found an actress for the video to make it "more atmospheric".
@@seinarumori1111 I did stumble upon that stuff, too (the magazine shoot). I equate this to Duran Duran in their heyday - John Taylor and/or Simon LeBon specifically - and everyone wanting to know "WHO'S THAT GIRL?" and making something out of nothing (most of the time). It's very amusing. Who knows...maybe when the story boards for the Silent Jealousy video were being plotted out, Yoshiki just said, "Can we get a model I can make out with???" 😹
They was first X, but they had to add Japan after X, because there was somewhere already band called X. I founded them 2006. I was really sad, because they was not together anymore, not chance to see them live. Then, I was so happy when they reunited soon after that. Saw them live in London, Wembley Arena 2017. We flyed from Finland to London only because of them. It was dream come true 😍
Longtime X fan here! I just happened upon your reaction and it’s soooo great to see them gaining new fans! Honestly, the rock scene in Japan wouldn’t be what it is today without X. They are some of the founding fathers of the Visual Kei (pronounced “kay” not “key”) movement along with bands like Buck-Tick, Dead End, and a few others. Personally, I believe that hide-san (the lead guitarist who sadly passed) is responsible for the look of the early VK bands. He was a hairdresser and makeup artist before turning to music full time and he had the skills to create X’s early look. Anyway, please feel free to ask me whatever you’d like. If I don’t know right off I can easily find out! I’m always happy to help new fans discover X and the other amazingly talented bands from Japan! 🇯🇵🤘🏻🔥
Thank you for being available as a resource, Susan! It is interesting that you referenced Dead End as I have mentioned them in a couple of other comments (although quite a while back and long before I knew anything at all about X Japan). Back in 1987 (gulp), I bought the Ghost of Romance album the day after seeing the video for Danse Macabre on The Headbanger's Ball...I thought the lead singer was totally the Japanese Stephen Pearcy! However, young doofus me was so caught up in the look that I did not realize for WEEKS that he was singing in Japanese...I just thought it was metal gibberish since there was plenty else I was listening to at the time where the lyrics were difficult to decipher. 😹 Still great music, though...and yeah, I still kick and laugh at myself over it to this day.....
X JAPAN invented Visual-kei as a way to make hard rock appeal to women and the masses. This was an excellent way to make hard rock, a rather minority genre, appeal to the masses who are interested in fashion and beautiful melodies, and has been copied by many bands since the 80's. There are many other musical methodologies invented by X JAPAN. It is an analog method called free marketing, which was born in the 80s, long before the Internet age. This method also created a large number of followers. In other words, it was a reckless marketing method at the time, distributing CDs and videotapes for free at great expense. This insane methodology was due to the genius of YOSHIKI. YOSHIKI, the drummer, was difficult to associate with because of his genius, but HIDE was a charming and fun person who cared about taking care of others, which led to many interactions.
Hey bro this is a great band is the best Japanese band of metal but loudness is more famous in the world both are amazing Yoshiki the drummer is virtuoso, Hide the main guitar passed away a long time ago and Taiji bass guitar too !!!
Great reaction as always! I love your X Japan reactions! If you have time to react to ua-cam.com/video/YVOEA62rNHk/v-deo.html , I would strongly recommend. It is Taiji's bass solo, and it's crazy. It's only 7 minutes if you have the time, and it's completely worth it. Japan's greatest bassist . . . RIP Taiji
