'You can pretend like you haven't noticed' - BBC News

- Martine Croxall was about to begin the 9pm broadcast when it became clear she was in front of the wrong camera. She, of course, dealt with it like a pro telling her viewers. "You can pretend like you haven't noticed."

@Bilal Khalid I did haha 😂😂😂
She handled it too well
Lol
She sure is a pro
Gracefully done with humour and worthy self possession. One's heart warms to her.
"you can pretend you haven't noticed" is literally the polite british version of "fuck it we'll do it live"
lol now I have to watch "fuck it we'll do it live" again.
Yes a bit more panache than ‘fuck it, we’ll do it live.’
Americans are crude
She handled that well. No frantic rushing towards her seat. Just a slow walk while making light of the screw up.
Thank you for describing exactly what happened in the video. TikTok has ruined people's brains
I would have been frazzled in my 20s. Saw a clip today a regular news report. The reporter on the beat began talking of the defendants "lengthy trial- 😳 lengthy hearing.." and I was like, girl, I feel ya, but it wasn't a devastating error. Lol. But it goes to show at least she cares. Hehe.
I haven't watched it for ages
She handled that perfectly. Not freaking out or saying sorry 100 times, just pretended like it never happened
What do you mean? She was in the shot the entire time. Nothing wrong happened at all.
Like a certain Korean military expert would
@@geebeedee9509
😂😂😂
Fun fact, you are actually told to do that. Never apologise for technical difficulties or anything going wrong, don't draw attention to it. Always act in a way so that if someone just turned the TV or radio on as soon as the problem was cleared up, they should have no idea what just happened. They also just don't have time to freak out, they have a schedule to stick to (not that this stops some people!).
But yes it was very very smooth.
@@geebeedee9509 she wernt at the begging r u blind or just stupid af
The fact that she walked so calmly and slowly talks volume about how well can she manage little problems in life.
I was thinking that too... I would be red faced, sweating, trying to think of a funny pun, who can I blame, who can I deflect to, then I'd have anxiety attacks for the next ten years thinking about it.
I think she's old.

I can feel her glaring at the cameraman responsible
They don't use cameramen. They use robotic cameras ( plenty of them) and that's why this happens from time to time
@@devilgod136 Someone still controls them and I'd call them a cameraman
@@isaac_aren someone programs them yeah, but they have set patterns that trigger at certain times for certain segments. Haa
Perfect 😂
The unflappable pace of middle age. It's a great feeling when you wake up one day and realise that nothing can make you rush without your consent.
No panicking or such, she just casually strolls back to the news desk. A dignified disappearing act to keep the viewers on their toes.
The way she walked over to that chair was smooth. It was like "oh I didnt see you there, but now that you're here, how about some news?"

Great example of a graceful recovery and done with style and a tinge of humor too. Great job Martine!!

Wow, she handled that so well, smooth transition out of embarrassment.
She's no embarrassed, unless thats where she should have been and the cameraman was RIGHT :p
That's what happens when you automate. From time to time, it just fcuks up.
Good on Martine for handling it so well, no flap, no panic, just calm professionalism.
Indeed. There aren't many comments talking about the automated camera set up (which has been in news rooms for a while now) and so seemingly think it was the newsreaders initial mistake "she was in the wrong place but so calm".
She was in the place she was supposed to be and as you say the automated set up fooked it up!
That's confidence and ability under pressure
"you can pretend like you haven't noticed" I laughed out loud. She started her spill at the right cue even when she isn't on that chair yet. What a professional she is.
Besides her perfection, she is still a mistake in the matrix :) like all of us.
What's funny about that?
@Aaliyahchannel2024 Your mother's bum cheeks
But she doesn't actually say "You can pretend like you haven't noticed". In fact it was "You can pretend that you haven't noticed," because, unlike most BBC print journalists, she uses correct grammar.
I love how you can see her on the correct mark the moment before it becomes obvious the cameras weren’t programmed right. The laugh shows for an instant on her face, but it never tells in her voice.
Doesn’t matter how big a problem is, you should treat all of them like this

The best part about this video is the fact that BBC News uploaded it to UA-cam ... ain’t no covering up any embarrassment. Own your mistakes and laugh about them. That’s the way to enjoy life.
oh. . I love moments like these. . so 'down to earth' little mistakes of humans. .not a robot. . such a calm professionalism though. We should applaud.
The calmness of her voice sent shudders through the control room. They knew... they all knew... it was the calm before the storm, and they'd witness the brunt of it in 17 minutes.

Pain.
Why does UA-cam select this stuff 6 years later? Also why do I click each time?
we click on it because our reward circuitry has been hacked by AI algorithms that keep getting better at making us stay.
She was standing in front of another camera, so the director could have easily have cut to that.
Looks like the director was a trainee and didn't know how to get out of cutting to the wrong camera.
Another alternative is that the camera had failed so they had no choice but to have her move to her desk.
this comment is 2 years old but i just want it to go on record that the cameras are automated and nobody is controlling them
Even if they move automatically, they can probably manually switch between the cameras.
LauritzT do you even know how they work?
She was wearing a slightly short dress and the newly appointed female director refused last minute to show it.
If they're in the standing position graphics show up on the adjacent screen illustrating the news as she reads it so they probably didn't have graphics ready to show for that evening's news
This was a demonstration of what too do. So controlled and just made it easy
Her positive energy is beautiful
