    You really did your homework for this interview, didn't you? Amazingly well thought out questions! Different than anything we've heard so far and John was visibly pleased to be asked about topics he'd never had the chance to talk about. He couldn't get the smile off his face when he talked about his childhood and young years.
    If you keep this up your channel might even become the go-to channel for armwrestling. I really believe it!

    It's just amazing that John doesn't understand how much he is respected by the fans and other armwrestlers. He doesn't need to create content. People will tune in just to hear him talk about his experiences, matches, training, the early days of the sport...etc. I think he feels he needs to be super charismatic like Devon, but he really doesn't. I agree without a doubt that steroids dont make a champion, but they work alot more then he gives credit for. I know from experience your strength explodes depending on which steroids are used in just a few weeks. Plus some guys aren't just using steroids, they use HGH too which helps makes your bones and tendons bigger and thicker as well as creating hyperplasia in the muscles.

      I think John is saying the strength transfer to the armwrestling table is 3%, although even there I have to disagree a bit. What John is correct about though is the base you need to have to be able to apply that pressure cannot be built with steroids, BUT they do help you recover faster so its definitely plausible you could build that base faster on gear.

    • @jankowalski1501
      @jankowalski1501 Рік тому +1

      @@aaron60090 Yes if John says that roids give 2-3% gain, than I know more than him in this department. If he is talking from his personal experience, than he must be one of the least prone to roids enhancment person on this planet.
      And it still doesn't mean anything in terms of averagegains for men in general, as average gains from roids are HUGE. There is a reason why 99% of ppl not on roids cannot compete with people on roids at all, and it is not because of 2% gains.
      For a 100kg pull, 2% gain means 102kg - do you think this is the difference worth risking destroying ur life, and that guarantees u success? You must be kidding. Such difference is immaterial in terms of long term competition throughts multiple events, it can be deflected by a given day disposition, a couple of hours less sleep etc.
      If you do not believe me go watch interviews or forums where u will read about professionals pre-roids and after-roids and what they gained in mass and power. Armwrestling is not different, it's strength sport.

Half of all Russian Olympic athletes ever another 😁. But look no further than Levan for armwrestling. Was a pretty good armwrestler at 250/300lbs for years but was losing to the elites still. 100 plus lbs and who knows how much juice later, nobody can touch him. Yeah it def helps lol.

It takes big personalities and big sponsorship from companies and big advertising dollars to reach the kind of level that we see with other sports. this would be a good poll. I got into arm wrestling fairly recently after coming across some random Schoolboy video. Looked into it a little deeper, came across Devon pretty quickly, and was hooked, so to speak. Naturally at some point I became aware of John's status in the sport and this sort of time-of-the-titans that existed around 10 years ago is really fascinating. Agree 100% that it is a privilege to get to see these guys still pulling in real time. All these comeback series are some of the most exciting things happening in arm wrestling, and they make what's happening with the new breed that much more interesting, as we pull for them to supersede the living legends. Otherwise, as dominant as Levan is currently, I dunno, arm wrestling might not be as interesting right now.

    • @egroegartfart
      @egroegartfart Рік тому +2

      Ummmm. You copied how I got into it exactly. Lol. That is funny. I saw schoolboys videos wrestling people in public just one after another. I just remember thinking how crazy that was that someone could arm wrestle 20-30 people and then at the end of the videos he was arm wrestling huge guys. Then of course from watching school boy videos Devon's videos started popping up in my feed. I knew nothing about any of these guys. Then mmt. Then Ryan. And this channel. Then I learned about John and it just grew from there. But I was hooked on arm wrestling just from schoolboys videos. And that was two years ago. Before all of these east vs. west and everything. Then Michael Todd started talking about his north American tour and he wanted places to stop and I came up with the bright idea that it would be frickin awesome if he stopped in Ohio and arm wrestler the Amish. We have the largest Amish community in the world. And those boys are just naturally frickin huge. Without working out. Because they start working out at 4 a.m. every single day until it gets dark. The girls are huge also. They're just built different. I thought in my stupid head it would be a great way to find new talent. Lol. So I sent Michael a message. And he thought it was a great idea too. I couldn't believe he actually got back to me. Told me to set it up and let him know. So I went right to work. Printed up hundreds of flyers. Went to Amish country at least ten times talking to the Amish. Talking to all the shops. There was a lot of interest. About half of them though just laughed at me and said they would not do something like that. But the word was out. The radio station put it on air for a few weeks. It was all set. I was so excited. It was so much work. I have a new appreciation for even organizers and promoters. I did both jobs. Lol. So Michael shows up on the day. And there's literally five people there for the event. I was like.,....ok, it's early. There's going to be tons of people. Lol. Luckily right before it started the Cleveland arm wrestling club shows up with about ten arm wrestlers. Thank God. They saved the day for me. But not one Amish person showed up. Zero. Lol. On one hand I couldn't believe it. A lot of the Amish people acted interested to my face but on the other hand I probably should have known they wouldn't do it because of the cameras and everything. They don't like to be in the limelight. All of those Amish shows on t.v. are completely fake btw. And Amish person would never do a t.v. show. So I learned my lesson. Thank goodness for the Cleveland arm wrestling club that saved the day. But I was so embarrassed that the reason Michael was coming didn't work out. But still it was a great time. I'm so grateful that those guys drove down an hour and a half to arm wrestle that day. And they invited me to come up anytime I want to go practice with them. The arm wrestling community is one awesome group. All of you. But that was my intro to arm wrestling. Oh. Great interview btw. Thank you.

    What's missing in arm-wrestling to make it big like cricket? I think it is partly knowledge. Most people who enjoy watching a sport have tried it at school or gone to a club at some point. Arm-wrestling is not a sport you are introduced to at school so you have not tried it yourself. I have started going to an arm-wrestling club to understand arm-wrestling better so that I can enjoy it as a sport and not just to see my favourite giant crushing arm-wrestler (John) do the impossible. I am starting to understand the small intricacies that you miss when you haven't tried it. (I am actually making training videos on youtube with me as the student 💪😃 ) Like John, I'm not drawn to baseball or cricket, but neither have I played it or I really understand it, so I guess I will be missing something when watching it. In short, if more people tried arm-wrestling with a coach I think it could gain more traction.

    Scott Norton was John's most formidable opponent. While John has far outlasted Norton, Norton at his peak was a far better strength athlete than John due to high marks in Bench press, press behind neck and other tests of strength. John has said that if 200 pounds was the most he could bench press, he could still win arm wrestling matches. I believe it. First time out I got pinned by someone whose best shoulder press on a universal gym was 120 pounds (he said so) while I was doing 190! When I progressed to 230 pound barbell military press at 152lbs, I was still getting pinned until I started training forearms. 200 pound bench press to Norton was not even a warm up, and John's best he said was 400.

  • @mikearnold6312
    @mikearnold6312 Рік тому

    Awesome interview! However, John is completely wrong about steroids and armwrestling strength. Both scientifically and anecdotally, steroids alone have been shown to increase muscular strength roughly 30% over one's natural genetic potential. Of course, this number varies based on one's genetic response to drugs, but this is a good average.
    Muscle to bone connective tissue increases in strength commensurate with muscular strength, as ALL muscular strength must first move through the tendons. In another words, if the muscles can lift a certain weight, so can the tendons. Now, when it comes to bone to bone connective tissue (such as the tendon in the elbow), it can only be strengthened through direct stress...not through muscular training, as there is no muscle involved. These tendons can only be strengthened through exercises such as side pressure training...or pulling on a table, etc. Other sports, such as tennis or being a baseball pitcher, will also help to a degree.
    Also, steroids increase strength through two primary mechanisms: increasing muscle size AND nervous system enhancement (i.e., improved neural firing, etc.). Some steroids will increase strength without adding much, if any size. Others build strength primarily through increasing one's ability to build muscle size. Most strength athletes use both, unless an athlete wants to minimize weight gain, such as those people at the top of their respective weight class.
    In conclusion, John knows a lot about armwrestling, but not so much about PEDs. There is a reason virtually all the top super heavies use them...regularly. In fact, I would estimate that 90% of all elite armwrestlers (and 95%+ of all elite super heavies) use PEDs in one form or another...because they work...and they work very well. Any athlete that competes in a sport that depends on muscular strength to win, will recieve massive benefit from AAS.

    Arm wrestling has been missing constantly great events. Engin is needed for 10 years to build momentum. It needs consistency, build a fan base around great events and build.

    This was a great interview man, I just listened to the entire thing while working. Great questions, great answers by the GOAT. Such an awesome humble dude he is. That goes really really far with me, especially in someone in a position to have an ego the size of the moon if that were his personality type. Your interview skills have never been in question Pradeep but this was some great work, thank you for your effort!

    hes wrong about you dont get any stronger on steroids,all you have to do is look at them,levan for instance if he stoped his steroid use i dont think he wil be at the top ,same with dennis,its why these guys get uge,dennis wont compete till he gets his weight up,think about that

    This is how you interview someone. Know your subject, prepare questions, speak clearly, don’t run all over the place, keep it a coherent conversation and not a chaos of voices.
    That it stands out is a sign of the usual UA-cam standard.

    John is a living legend, the absolute best and a living example of that if you train hard enough, with dedication and dont take any crappy shortcuts, you can still be the best at what you want to do and be able to mop the floor with guys who go the opposite direction. We wish you the best of health John and good luck for the upcoming matches.
