Can you pitch fjern Gokotta tent outer first ??

- Hi everyone, on my original video, looking at this tent, a number of people asked me if it was possible to pitch it outer first ? so in the interest of tentology, I had a go doing it, watch the video to see if it was a pass or fail 🤔

Good video. Looks the footprint is poking out of the outer so might get rained on. Something to watch out for, maybe mod it so the corner tabs are longer .
Also, there is a string trick that accomplishes the same if not using a footprint or not wanting that wet either. With a piece of string, same dimensions of the inner periphery, plus enough to tie a long loop at each corner that extends out for the poles to secure to (double loop for the very end to the poles).
You do this with the whole tent set up so you can adjust it all. I saw this demo'ed for an msr tent and Ive done same with others. Works a treat.

I've used my Cloud Up 2 a couple of times like that, just the footprint and flysheet when all I needed was a quick shelter. It works perfectly.

Thanks Mick, good effort and much appreciated!! But bottom line is, imho of course, no 2 skin tent that pitches inner first should be considered anything else but a lowland summer tent as sooner or later our great British weather will catch you out and put you and others at risk. These super ultralight tents are absolutely fine in the deserts of the U.S. but over here you are just an accident waiting to happen! ATB from deepest Dorset 👍
Totally agree Clive, I got this tent purely for summer lowland camping, or if high up it'll be on a campsite with my car 10 yards away 😀 👍
I bought a footprint and attached some washers to each corner and managed to fit the poles in and then attached the outer to the pole ends ,then attached the inner 👍
I thought it must be doable after seeing the hubba video, just wasn't sure about attaching the inner but it was a doddle, thanks for taking the time to comment really appreciate it 👍👌
Thanks for this Mick!! Was keen to see how that would work...have always preferred outer first pitched tents, but the last two tents I bought, the Fjern and the Krypton are both inner-first 🙈

Hi Mick. Its a nic3 lookinh tent but a little more than im willing to pay out. Funnily enough i plan on getting myself a bivvy and going lighter and more the open closer to nature vibe. And at a quarter of the price haha.
Never been a huge fan of bivvys, spent to much time in them when I was in the forces, plus now I'm older and fatter it'd kill me off trying to get in and out of one 🤣🤣
@@Mickoutdoors don't tell me that mate. I'm getting into a bivvy because Im getting to the point where I'm thinking whether a hammock is a safe option for me haha. I took mine out today and one of the straps had frayed. Eek!

If your interested you can have this tent,(for free) I don't use it anymore, it's not a top of the range tent but it's waterproof and a cross between a bivvy and a tent, just let me know if it's any use to you 😉
@@Mickoutdoors Mick that's really generous of you, thank you. However, I always go out with my dog and most often my wifes too so always need my two man tent. Lovely in the cold spells and less condensation haha. I think that tent might be a tad too small. But thank you for your kind offer buddy. Much appreciated. 😁
