  • Hi all, in this video we look at a budget budget tent for summer woodland camping, I paid for this out my own pocket as I liked the look of it, I also go on a bit of a rant which I was going to cut put, but I've left it in as I feel strongly about it, although this is just my own personal opinion.
link below to tent and shop, don't forget to like and subscribe.
Also, if you're feeling generous or want to help the channel out, you can buy me a coffee. The link, as well as my email, are in my channel description. Thanks, Mick.

That looks like a handy bit of kit for an impromptu overnighter,
Swap out the guy ropes for some (army) jungle knots and a few decent pegs and for fair weather, you have a decent shelter that could be set up in a couple of minutes.
Cheaper and a bit more protection than a tarp too
    👍

Great little tent for the price and of course with its limits. As for mountain rescue 100 per cent agree with you. The only time I'm going to go up a mountain and need mountain rescue is if I get caught out in extreme weather that was not stated by Met Weather. Or fall ill. Mountain rescue have more important things to do than rescue idiotic people with terrible decision making attributes risking their lives for a blooming video. Added to that if you see me up on a Mountain knowing bad weather forecast it will be me on Mount Everest added via green screen lol

Cheers Steve, like I said I used to work with MR and they do have a few choice names for people who ignore all the warnings ⚠️ fair enough being caught out, but to do it deliberately means they should be billed the 50 grand it's cost to rescue them if they get into trouble 👌👍

I bought one of the original French army tents that this is based on. Paid 40 quid for it about ten or twelve years ago.
I had to seam seal it, but not had a leak since. Mine has doors at both ends, and flaps to cover the side vents if it gets a bit too breezy. Also small mesh vents in the apex of the doors, but no full mesh door option. It's a solid little tent.
This looks like a fair copy, though probably not squaddie proof. (What is?)

    • @Mickoutdoors
      @Mickoutdoors  2 місяці тому +1

Yeh, it's definitely a copy of the French army tents, I just don't understand why they didn't move the grommets a inch further out then they would be on the outside of the tent and not the inner 🤷‍♂️ anyway thanks for taking the time to comment really appreciate it 😀 👍

I made myself a promise when I got my new kit, no more hands and knees only shelter... Been there, done that.... I'm 50 and I'm allowed to splurge.
Buy and use that arthritis assist pruner, cut your wood equal lengths and quickly.
Get a WALK IN tent, so you can stretch out and change standing up.
Get and use that little cot, WITH AN AIR MATTRESS IF YOU WANT.
BUY A FLASHLIGHT THAT ONLY TURNS ON AND OFF... Who REALLY needs a multi flash or s.o.s. mode?
Just go out and have fun, with YOUR choice of gear, lol.

@@Mickoutdoors I suppose I should come clean... I, in fact, DID NOT check the local weather before going on my adventure to northern California. Being used to traveling WITH all my kit in my big rig, weather was never an issue.
Yes, it was bad... Yes, trees fell all night around me on my second night.
Yes, a skunk took advantage of my hammock and tarp set up to shelter from the storm.
YES, I VISITED THE ER TWICE.....
      BUT
At no point was I in serious danger, and my son came to my rescue. I completely agree with being properly prepared AND informed of any upcoming weather issues, even IF I didn't practice what we both preach, lol. I came out missing some gear left behind because of the ER visit, and have shopped accordingly, for my next ill advised adventure( but I DID finally get to ride over 750 miles on my first train ride, the California Zephyr)

Can't see anywhere to attach them though David and they're only about 10 inches long so would never reach the ground from there, I've a feeling they could be for the outer door zips, to pull it out, but that's just a guess 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Hi Mick - How are you mate?
Nice looking summer tent. Reminds me off me youf camping in cheapy tents down in the west country. I do like the mesh at ground level though.
Nothing like a good rant mate lol. I just think guys are doing all these extreme weather camps just to get the viewing figures up on their channels. However, I do agree with you re mountain rescue and emergency services. They have enough on their plates already without some numpty giving it the big I am.
Have a good weekend buddy. Atb Saxon

Cheers buddy, I've nothing against people testing their gear or themselves, just not at the expense of possibly putting other people's lives in jeopardy such as MR and SAR, I seen one youtuber a while back, deliberately take a cheap fibre glassed poled tent up on to a mountain in the lakes during storm Agnus just to test his and the tents limits !! Absolutely crazy and the sad thing in my eyes was that his subscribers were all praising him for doing it in the comments, I unsubbed can't be doing with egotistical half witts like that.
