@Nixmathis Yep. Watched them over the weekend and I was not impressed. I did not see much improvement from any of the ladies and I think not having anyone else who can really challenge them for a place on the team has contributed to this. It is also why the US continues to produce world class gymnasts because there are so many out there who can compete for a place on the team so whenever there is competition for selection a gymnast knows they have to 'bring it' every time or risk losing a spot, something that Leanne unfortunately is finding out.
@Nixmathis Yes, I saw some good performances here and there but OVERALL the competition did not feel like one for me especially from Rebeca, Jade and Flavia. Julia, Carolyne and the others might have shown a more competitive spirit because they are not the 'big 3' and would have felt more pressure to perform but not the others. I mean, Flavia did not compete on two apparatuses (3?) and NEEDED NOT TO because apparently hers, Rebeca's and Jade's spots are safe on the team. This was so different from what we saw at Core and Nationals in the US.
@Nixmathis The truth is they don't have a cadre of female gymnasts who they can entrust such a campaign to other than those they select. I saw some fairly good performances from some up and coming gymnasts and that bodes well for the future but no one that could realistically challenge for a place as such. As such, one has to wonder what kind competition preparedness they will derive from this exercise if any at all. It is what it is though, Brazil is not like the US, China, Russia, Italy, France etc. in that it does not have a long history in the sport especially from the women side so it will take some time to see others emerge that can really challenge for a spot on the team.
Oh, this is all quite true. Brazil's program didn't really exist prior to Rio and this particular crop of girls have been around for quite a bit. They do look rough. Heck, at any given time beautiful Flavia breaks my heart! Still, I am charmed by those women! It would probably be kind of difficult to get true reporting out of Russia and China in particular though.

I'm only at 30mins in and feel Shilese took a route (if you are able) that's great. For NBC purposes, there seems to be a need for a separate nationals and oly trials for viewership. But considering how demanding the sport is ... when women and girls are the revenue of USAG and NBC, they should be compensated more. And I voice my opinion that Nationals and Trials should be one and done. As much as I want to see gymnastics, the process of making these athletes go through an added competition is needless IMO
I think the extra comp is helpful since there are so few world assignments they can get. An extra opportunity to compete at the elite level is a good imo. But, I totally agree about compensate needing to come up.
" *the process of making these athletes go through an added competition is needless IMO* " Totally agree. In addition, it provides more opportunity for injuries to occur. I think Nationals should have been held this week and that should have been it.
The additional competition can help inconsistent gymnasts show good scores. For example Jordan’s 14.1 on floor is the highest non-Simone floor score this season as both Shilese and Kaliya only hit 14.0 at classics. If Jordan and Kayla are both in the 13.8-13.9 range at trials, that 14.1 for Jordan could come in clutch for her chances of making the team.
@@Plaspos Three days later and once again I have proven my point. 13:30 this is so right. GB men are coming for floor, pommel horse and vault medals. If USA men follows the "team qual slays, team final flops" tradition, GB men will get a team medal as well.
Highest scoring team doesn’t make sense if your person in question is on the highest scoring team because they’re great on floor, but only top 8 on the other three. I understand completely, taking the best possible team looking at raw scores, but consistency must be considered also. Suni, for example. Clearly, she would be a top scorer on two events, but if she falls on one, or both events one of two days, that should be a consideration.
@@GloriaKabahuma I think 13.8 with a fall is pushing it-let’s not forget none of the major contenders have competed internationally this year to know for sure how their routines will be received. Suni should, and likely will make this team. My issue is with people saying you must take the highest team and if you don’t you’re dumb. With the exception of three, maybe four gymnasts, the highest scoring team can change on any given day. Why is it a problem to take someone who is very consistent but not the highest scorer?
Yes it does make sense. Doesn't matter if someone isn't good on some events when the team already has 4 good people for all those events. Maximizing the medal possibilities by taking the best "specialist" to fill out the team is smart.
suni's vault and floor don't matter at trials, they don't want to use them at olympics unless someone(s) go down. she's shown to be top 2 on beam this season in competition but if she doesn't hit a higher difficulty bars both nights of trials, don't be surprised if she doesn't make the team.
Do you think that Simone Biles will retire afer the Paris Olympics? I think that she will retire after the Paris Olympics. I also think that Suni will retire after the Paris Olympics.
Well Cecile has said in an interview that Simone is ready to be done but I guess we'll see. I think it's possible she retires but I also think it's possible she'll pull a Chuso and just keep going forever😂
I love Skye, I really do but if she hits at Trials (added to her hits recently) she is 99.9 % going to fall at the Olympics. If she hits in prelims and you use her in team finals, she will fall. She always falls internationally so while I don't think you can take the spot away from her if she finishes third at Trials, it won't change a thing come team finals if you don 't have someone to use instead of her. And that will truly suck because bringing someone for beam when you know she will have issues when it matters seems like a waste of time. But it's not just about choosing the best team. It's being fair and picking the gymnast who earns the spot. That's called being fair
I think on beam sure, the bars routine she hits comfortably and the Cheng typically is not a vault that someone with Skye’s technique falls on (Melnikova for example has a disaster Cheng but Skye’s is way cleaner). As opposed to the Amanar where even gymnasts with good technique can still fall. I could very much see a prelims lineup with Suni in AA and Skye only on vault/bars with Kayla on beam/floor.
I know Jade has a higher vault but I really hope Jordan gets that 5th spot. If Jordan brings a cheng to trials, (which is unlikely) her stock would go way up for that 5th spot
@@charitybosuaIn the past, you could watch it later or rewatch for a short time on Peacock. I subscribed to Peacock during the Tokyo Olympics and realized before Classics that I was still paying for it. Made it convenient for Championships and upcoming Paris Olympics. I don’t have to wait for it to air Primetime and can watch it live, even if I’ll be watching (the Olympics) in the middle of the night. 😊
@@alannabrown4 I think she will. Simone has been about cementing her legacy in the sport and I think the opportunity to retire on home soil will be too much of a lure and too significant to her legacy for her not to stick around for 2028. Before Tokyo, the plan was for her to end her AA program there and return for Paris per Cecile and Laurent's request as a vault and floor specialist. Tokyo did not go as Simone had planned so I think everything has been pushed back somewhat.
Jade will be the fifth spot. It's fixed for her especially if Suni can't beat Skye in the AA. She is finally being scored fairly for her cheated leaps and jumps on floor. Jade's plan didn't work last year because she didn't compete the difficulty and Josc passed her. Jade is the only one who gets to not try and benefit.
@Nixmathis She hasn't really had many elite assignments because she was cleaning t up with wins on the college circuit. And competing every week brings consistency
What new vault that is? Have not seen anything from her as yet and if it a TTY or Biles 1 it would be quite risky for her to not throw that in a competition BEFORE Paris.
Yeah I'm confused as well?? What new vault could she possibly be doing? And if it is something that has never been done before, doesn't she need to get it "valued" before debuting at Olympics?
If Russia was going to Paris, their women's team would struggle to make team finals (let alone defend their title). Their men, though, are still great and they could have challenged for gold but their women's team...YIKES!
@@davidjacobmarts535 Their men’s team is definitely not as strong as the last Olympics. I think because neither team is competing at major events they aren’t doping as much. Just my opinion
I'd say the team is going to be Simone, Shilese, Suni, Skye, and Kayla with Jordan and Jade as alternates. But like many have already said that 5th spot is really up in the air. I know people aren't fans of Kayla (I have heard that people say her gymnastics isn't wow factor enough), but she's consisant and although she most likely won't win any individual medals she can give good scores on all events, especially floor.
If Leanne had hit the same beam on night 2 at Nationals that she did on night one she would have been ahead of Suni and if she had been scored fairly on the floor she would have been ahead of Dicello. DO the math. It is there.
Leanne was lowballed on every event. Beam night one (Notice when others fall they lose a point but Leanne loses plus 2. These judges are cheating) Kayla should have been no where near the medals.
Kaliya can't back up any event to be taken. Her floor is not that great. Tiana can back up more events than she can in case of injury or meltdown. Leanne, Jordan, even Kayla make more sense than her.
A lot of people will be pissed off and making arguments for their favorite to go. But This national team is deep in talent. And where there is uncertainty, experience will win the coin toss.
Simone lock, obviously Suni, Shilese, Skye are on the team of they do what they need to do period 🎯. 5th spot realistically is between Jordan, Jade & Kayla Everyone else see ya in 25 - 28! If we are being realistic 🎯
Unfortunately between Kayla, Jade, and Jordan, the least consistent on floor is Jordan. And floor is the most important event for the gymnast taking this spot. And it’s kind of in Jade’s control as if she goes for full difficulty and hits it, I don’t think the other two can catch her
That is the only thing I can think of tbh. But how would it get valued at the Olympics? Like, do they stop the competition to decide a value for a new skill?
Can you guys touch on how many overall Medal potentials will US gymnastics bring home for USA?? I believe Swimming, track, and Gymnastics are usually the 3 events US brings back the most medals.
Not seeing the US winning as much medals as they had in the past in swimming. The Aussies look like they are going to claim the majority of them, especially the women.
USA's medals quite spread out. I don't think the men will give USA much medals considering their bum ass selection criteria, but women will probably contend for all possible medals. Assume no injury or crazy falls, 3-4 golds, 3-5 silver / bronze.
I think Jade has to go top 5 AA to make this team, whether Suni is on it or not. And that’s going to be very hard to do. She’ll have to go balls out difficulty on floor and vault, bring back an Amanar and somehow suddenly get better execution scores than she’s been getting on both events. And with higher difficulty that’s going to be a tall order. The judges have showed no willingness to help her in the E score. I’ll be super impressed if she throws it down though.
WHY WON'T YOU TALK ABOUT THE OVERSCORING OF KAYLA DICELLO. Acknowledge the facts. If she scored fairly at Nationals she would have been down in 6th. The 3-tenths extra on vault, the point on beam, the 5-tenths for her bent knees on bars, and the biggest joke of a score when she fell and had huge knee bends and mistakes, and the messy floor routines with a 5.7 start value getting in the 14's. We all know that was judges biasedly overscoring her. You need to tell the people the facts.
Look I also want Jordan to make the team but this comment is exaggerating. Obviously her beam day 1 was overscored (still shocking they credited the tour jete half) but the floor scores are not really overscored at 13.85 and 13.9, remember at Pan Ams 2023 she got 13.766 with two tenths less of difficulty, and her dance elements on floor really are cleaner than her competitors (Jade/Jordan/Leanne) and on par with Simone/Suni/Shilese/Kaliya. On bars, Kayla Jordan were both overscored in getting 14.5s for routines that are going to go 14.0-14.2 internationally. So really that leaves beam as the one place where Kayla had an unfair margin over Jordan, and while I do think that a real beam score should have put her in 4th behind Suni, I don’t see how she loses 4 tenths further to go behind Jordan too much less Rivera.
The German trials were an absolute nail biter. And Eli Seitz has embarrassed herself with her comments online and in interviews, constantly talking down Helen only to get beaten by her on her best event. And afterwards she goes on to like nasty comments about Helen on her instagram. I honestly expected more maturity from a 30 something year old. Also, the criteria was clearly tailored to Eli, putting medal chances and chances for final placements over AA and using the scores from last year's worlds as a reference even though there have already been four scores over 15 this year and the 14.766 won't get you a medal this year. I'm just excited to see Helen get the chance to compete (partly because I'm afraid she'll be broken in a few years like Tabea Alt was). And if Lukas Dauser can't compete I'll literally cry, he's such a down to earth and hard working person and him and Andy Toba supporting each other at competitions is everything.
Pet Hamsters are lost every week and 50% are found, 40% found dead and 10% found months later in either a sweater drawer or a drawer full of bedding in Egyptian cotton and 100% pure silk satin. Hezly is making her statement for 2025 Worlds!!!! Germany may have had a system but Helen won every event to go with the All-Around...something Simone needed 6 years to attain!!! Hat's off to Charlotte Boothe for being named alternate to the GB team, and who knows, with the insanity we have seen in teams athletes dropping like flies with the flu who knows, she may make the Olympic games as an athletes competing and we can see Brandy Johnson on the floor as her coach!!!
Simone is a lock because she keeps winning, NOW. We don't know what will happen at the Olympics, but today she is the best in the US, as she was in 2021.
Simone is a lock because there is NO ONE like her in the US or in the world. She does not have to win National/Trials or any competition to lock that spot because she exudes so much talent above anyone else that you will probably give her a place just because she is Simone. I know that is not what anyone would admit but I bet that is EXACTLY how it is.
@@0xTRellyx0 And why not? When you have the most DOMINANT female athlete in the WORLD (arguably the most dominant athlete male or female) at your disposal you would want to give them EVERY SINGLE opportunity there is to compete.
I don't see the placements changing much from nationals, except making room in the stack for Shi: Simone, Shi, Skye, Kayla, and Suni, alts: Jordan & Jade. Sky and Kayla will need to bring the same fire or better, else they will go into the deciding and one will be lost to alt. Edit. Skye is injured. Had to be carried out. ☹
Suni isn't a lock because she has only competed top 3 on one event this entire season. She's not making the team just on beam. Putting off hitting top 3 on both of her key events until trials is risky. if she doesn't show top 3 both nights of trials on both events, don't be surprised if she isn't named. this isn't the marta era anymore where they cheat and put people on the team after the fact who didn't earn it in the moment like they did back in 2016.
@Nixmathis atm of course not, she's had a great season and her trajectory is going in the right direction; i thoroughly understand the rules and all of the items that go into making these decisions, and it's very complicated for selection this year if simone and shilese are healthy and on their a-game since they can both go up on all 4 events. i wish they would have changed it to 4 up/count when they changed it back to a 5 person team.... anywho, what i'm saying (which i think you already know) is that it's not fair to take someone who hasn't competed worthy the entire olympic season/hasn't competed to make up the top team during the entire season. suni hasn't shown (yet?) to make up the highest scoring team and all that's left is trials. if she doesn't show readiness at trials, she doesn't hold enough stock to be put on the team, nor is it the right/fair thing to do if others have proved readiness all season. she can't just hit bars at trials, she has to upgrade from nationals and hit to be top 3 so that there's not a furor like in 2016. the moment does matter to the selection committee (again it's not marta era anymore) the best team who performed best this season and trials to make up the best team will and should be selected.
Suni doesn't even have to do trials, it's a formality. She is the reigning AA and secured a medal on beam in a lockdown. It's not even a question. She showed them that she has the endurance at nationals and she's stealth. She will be the only thing that keeps her from Paris.
@Nixmathis You don't think in 30 days after getting through her toughest event in two years didn't elevate her confidence. I don't think Suni has been through what Simone has so she isn't trying to talk herself out of delayed reaction to SA and a toxic regime that reinforced abuse and perpetuated/covered up the assault. Suni vs Suni. Simone vs LN, USAG, et al, Simone

I love this podcast! I have a wheeze when I laugh just like Jessica. :-)
yay
Do you think that Simone Biles will retire afer the Paris Olympics? I think that she will retire after the Paris Olympics. I also think that Suni will retire after the Paris Olympics.
Well Cecile has said in an interview that Simone is ready to be done but I guess we'll see. I think it's possible she retires but I also think it's possible she'll pull a Chuso and just keep going forever😂
I think they will pay her to stick around for LA . Since the Olympics will be on home soil❤
I don’t think Sunni will she’s only like 21 but Simone probably willing to feel like she’s married now so maybe she might want to start a family
@@joyfadele3104 She will start a family and come back for LA 2028, at least that is what I envision. LOL!
If she is the Simone of the 2016 Olympics then I think she'll retire
I love Skye, I really do but if she hits at Trials (added to her hits recently) she is 99.9 % going to fall at the Olympics. If she hits in prelims and you use her in team finals, she will fall. She always falls internationally so while I don't think you can take the spot away from her if she finishes third at Trials, it won't change a thing come team finals if you don
't have someone to use instead of her.
She's out now unfortunately 😕
Thank you for this!😊
Is usag not recording podium training for this weekends comp? I don’t see the lives on their page.
No, they won't. They will put some routines up on twitter and said the media may put up routines
@@savannahno1711thanks :)
I know Jade has a higher vault but I really hope Jordan gets that 5th spot. If Jordan brings a cheng to trials, (which is unlikely) her stock would go way up for that 5th spot
How to watch as an International fan? Seems like it's not on UA-cam this time 😢
I’d like to know too!!
Also wondering!
How to watch the trials? I believe it will be on the Peacock app?
@@SquirtlePower809 does Peacock allow you to rewatch? Because I'd be like 3 AM for me
@@charitybosuaIn the past, you could watch it later or rewatch for a short time on Peacock. 😊
My heart will break for Kayla if she is an alternate again.
Me too!
I also think that Jade Carey will retire afer the Paris Olympics.
Why? Simone and other gymnasts are older and still going
@@Elong.I don’t think simone will go for 2028….
Tokyo did not go as Simone had planned so I think everything has been pushed back somewhat.
perhaps in theory, but won't announce it until after she graduates from OSU
So gutted for Skye Blakely and her family. 😢
Jade is a great floor worker. She proved that in 2021. I am hoping she makes it.
@Nixmathis She hasn't really had many elite assignments because she was cleaning t up with wins on the college circuit. And competing every week brings consistency
Hope Andrade new vt is worth it we don’t want to lose her in the all around
What new vault that is? Have not seen anything from her as yet and if it a TTY or Biles 1 it would be quite risky for her to not throw that in a competition BEFORE Paris.
Yeah I'm confused as well?? What new vault could she possibly be doing? And if it is something that has never been done before, doesn't she need to get it "valued" before debuting at Olympics?
@@SquirtlePower809 Good question. So the only vault that I see that could be new to her but not new is the Biles I.
@@aliciamcdonald7105the Yurchenko 1/2 on- 2 1/2 off has been mentioned by different sources (no video), so basically a Cheng with an extra twist.
@@SquirtlePower809you don't need to perform it before the Olympics, but she would need to submit the new skill to FIG prior to the competition.
I saw the BRICS games and Russia was not going to hold on to that Olympic medal this year. 🫣
@@quedotelancine1685 Marinov, Dalaloyan, Nagorny, Naydin and Polyashov would for sure challenge for gold on the men's side.
Shout out to the 2012 team ❤

If Leanne had hit the same beam on night 2 at Nationals that she did on night one she would have been ahead of Suni and if she had been scored fairly on the floor she would have been ahead of Dicello. DO the math. It is there.
Leanne was lowballed on every event. Beam night one (Notice when others fall they lose a point but Leanne loses plus 2. These judges are cheating) Kayla should have been no where near the medals.
Didn't Shannon Miller and Dominique Moceanu petition onto the Olympic team in '96 due to injury?
Yes, I believe so. Or at least they petitioned to Trials
Hevley head cased two competitions by missing a vault and another event. She shouldn't be near the team
if they bring her and she does that and they lose out on a medal I will never let it die.
Hezly needs more time and it will be worth it. They need to let the true seniors with the experience go into the war room.
I really really REALLY want Jordan on that team goddamn
Kaliya can't back up any event to be taken. Her floor is not that great. Tiana can back up more events than she can in case of injury or meltdown. Leanne, Jordan, even Kayla make more sense than her.
A lot of people will be pissed off and making arguments for their favorite to go. But This national team is deep in talent. And where there is uncertainty, experience will win the coin toss.
Simone lock, obviously
Suni, Shilese, Skye are on the team of they do what they need to do period 🎯.
5th spot realistically is between Jordan, Jade & Kayla
Everyone else see ya in 25 - 28! If we are being realistic 🎯
Really wanting Jordan to get the respect for all her past clutch and her personality….
bs
Unfortunately between Kayla, Jade, and Jordan, the least consistent on floor is Jordan. And floor is the most important event for the gymnast taking this spot. And it’s kind of in Jade’s control as if she goes for full difficulty and hits it, I don’t think the other two can catch her
andrade doing yurchenko triple perhaps?
That’s what I’m thinking, or maybe the Biles I
@@chloebrower2598 Haven't seen either and would be quite risky to throw it just once in the competition but we will just have to wait and see.
That is the only thing I can think of tbh. But how would it get valued at the Olympics? Like, do they stop the competition to decide a value for a new skill?
not if she values her knees.
I also think the Biles 1
Jordan Chiles shouldn't be on this team. She falls at least once every meet. EVERY meet.
are you confusing her with Skye Blakely
I really like Tiana so my dream team would be Simone, Shi, Suni, Skye and Tiana but in reality i think Jade will be that last place
Tiana is one of my favorites too. I think she's set for LA28.
I’m excited for Tiana’s future, I love watching her!
Shi and Suni are questionable. Skye is out, she injured herself on floor yesterday.
do non-traveling alternates get a medal? I know traveling alternates get a medal, or at least they do at Worlds.
Only an alt who subbed for the team gets a team medal, otherwise a traveling or non-traveling is not given a medal nor considered an Olympic by IOC.
Forever alternate kayla 😂 talk about turning off your filter
Hope Kayla makes the team!!❤
@Nixmathisno
Quite hypocritical from Alicia if she picks top 5 AA 😂
not necessarily, not mutually exclusive whatsoever, as you know, best fairest scoring team might be the top 5aa we'll just have to wait and see!

@@aliciamcdonald7105 hahaha... You notice all the stipulations for appeal, really only apply to her.
@@0xTRellyx0 And why not? When you have the most DOMINANT female athlete in the WORLD (arguably the most dominant athlete male or female) at your disposal you would want to give them EVERY SINGLE opportunity there is to compete.
Simone is of course a lock but she had all those accolades and scoring records before 2021 too and still fell apart. You need more of a reasoning
@Nixmathis 1 out of 99 is failure for these perfectly imperfect gods
And that reasoning would be that she is in therapy now.
If Suni falls at Trials both days on beam she shouldn't be on this team. It doesn't matter what she did 3 years ago.
I wouldn't put that kind of energy out there, because you never know where it may land.
And this aged well. Skye fell on floor is now out for trials/Paris.
Q
I don't see the placements changing much from nationals, except making room in the stack for Shi:
Simone, Shi, Skye, Kayla, and Suni, alts: Jordan & Jade. Sky and Kayla will need to bring the same fire or better, else they will go into the deciding and one will be lost to alt.
Edit. Skye is injured. Had to be carried out. ☹
Shilese and Skye are injured. Suni has kidney disease and has no business on the team.

It’s not “cheating” for a selection committee to select the team they want just because you didn’t agree with their selection.
@@embeth446 whatever makes you feel better about the dirty cheating 🙂 #ethicsdontmatter
