DataCamp is a nice one. I finished DataAnalyst and started Data Scientist course. Unfortunately to finish Data Scientist course you need knowledge of Statistics, some Math, etc. As for me it's difficult to write code which I don't understand (I mean I'm not familiar with grounds on which based functions in machine learning), so I postponed. After finishing DataCamp I could write code to automatize my routing and do data analysis. Great courses. Recommend.

Best review I've seen on DataCamp. I trialed their course a couple of weeks ago and couldn't get on with the style with their Data Analyst track. I felt that the topics were introduced too quickly and there was not enough practice between said concepts and not enough emphasis on conveying big picture understanding. This made it difficult to learn. If I hadn't already spent about 30hrs or so on DataQuest at that point I would have no idea how I could have tackled each topic. There are MUCH better tutorials on each of the topics on UA-cam by FAR. Also, although it seems petty, the instructor(s) lacked charisma, it was painfully boring and the light colour palette of the UI was off putting as it lacked contrast. Additionally, the practice sessions provided way too much help to the point that it hardly felt worth completing them. I'm currently studying with DataQuest. Although it's a little boring, not as boring as DataCamp, it's teaches what you need and tells you exactly why something is important to learn and provides tonnes of practice. Also, the UI is easy to get on with and they spend a good deal of time on each topic (Data Cleaning, Loops etc) to really get you to understand something. Furthermore, they are great at interleaving, by that I mean, they introduce you to a topic and then have you use it consistently on later modules so that you're always reinforcing and building up on your knowledge as opposed to learning things in isolation and then moving on and rarely using it again. I've tried several courses so far and only DataQuest has been worth it for Data Analysis, although not perfect everything else has too many downsides. Other good material for just Python in general is Python Crash Course by Eric Matthes and Automate The Boring Stuff. Besides YT videos, I have found nothing better than DataQuest for data analysis.
I did both Datacamp and Dataquest about two or three years ago. Datacamp is a bit better for R than Python. I do recall that dataquest was pretty good for python data analysis. One con I see with datacamp is that there is a bit too much guidance with code at times.
Do you have any suggestions for supplemental online classes to take to help address the shortcoming you mentioned in this video? I've actually found this issue with most online courses that teach analytics tools and programming languages (Python, SQL, etc). They teach how to code or write scripts within the application, but little attention is given to how to apply those skills practically in real world situations. I was hoping that datacamp addressed that a bit more than other providers since they offer projects, but it sounds like you didn't find that to be the case.

DataCamp is fill-in-the-blanks style of learning. Not very effective for beginners or someone looking for a career change. However, if you already know the material, it is a good platform to review and improve existing skills.
I like the way DataCamp is set up and allows you to work at your own pace in short time chunks if you have limitations. If someone is focused on learning Python and programming would this be your first choice?

With Excel data model and Power Query technology, connecting, transforming and performing functions are becoming very doable. I am not from Data science background, had learned basic SQL and Python skills and think they are quite powerful yet so far with if, else if and then functions are able to be performed in Excel long time ago.....

I have a bachelors in math and have taken courses in analytics (college courses / conferences / DataCamp-like courses) and built skills on the job over the past 15 years. I wouldn't consider DataCamp (or most other programs like it) to be the equivalent to a college degree, but it does teach you a significant amount of the necessary coding skills and some of the math skills that you'd need for analytics / data science. It covers over half of the skills in a data analyst / data science job.

I started learning R on Coursera, but I think it’s a little expensive to pay for each course separately per month, and I went with a yearly subscription to DataCamp. I’ve learned a tremendous amount, but just this weekend I went to the Coursera site, and they now have “Coursera Plus”, which gives access to all non IBM, non-degree material for $399/year, which makes it comparable with DataCamp. How do you rate Coursera? Even though they don’t count as college credit, the fact that Duke and John Hopkins lend their names to specialization tracks must mean they are high quality.
Does anyone have a channel or tutorial recommendation for the maths and statistical areas of data science so I can supplement with while im taking datacamp courses?
i mean if you want to start for free Khan Academy is good for the math part, there are ton of tutorials for python basics, im not data scientist so i can't recommend you youtube channel for data science in python
don't you think the fill in the blank style of the courses is too easy? Hard to build that coding muscle memory and critical thinking skills when 90% of every problem is already completed for you.
I think it's a fantastic starting point for learning the skills with real-time feedback. I don't think that you'll walk away from any course having every piece of knowledge that you'll need in an ongoing basis and a business. Partly because you need time working on those really ad hoc type requests and dealing with the messiness that is most business data to really solidify your skills.
They also have guided projects in the Projects section, that allow you to use the code, that you've learned during the courses. I think this is where the real learning begins :)
What would be a good COMBO with Datacamp? I've started this week, because I got 3 months free with the Github Student Pack and I get your points. But i want to immerse and get a intern or a freelancer job by next year, at first i think i have to improve my python skills. Does anyone have any recommendations?
I haven't used it so can't vouch one way or another. My initial impression (based on a quick look at their content) is that it covers a lot of great topics. If you're just learning to code, you might find a tool like DataCamp or Codecademy works better for the coding aspect since you get feedback on your code and can get hints to help you. They teach coding in the 365 Data Science course, but it doesn't appear to have any live coding environment so you wouldn't get that live feedback. This is personal preference - you can definitely still learn to code without a live feedback environment - as thousands+ people have over the years.
Mohammed Bouchcoucha I’d like to add some info. They really well explain statistics, probability, regression. I covered only these courses. In my opinion they did great job. Unfortunately there is no option to code using exercises like DataCamp. I’d say it’s really nice to cover their courses people who doesn’t familiar with data science topic and want to start. I’d recommend 365datascience course as knowledge background and then start coding with data camp.
