It is so encouraging to scroll through the comments and see many people who were directed here from the Google Analytics Course. I feel so motivated to continue this journey, knowing that I am not alone. Data analysis has purpose, as the talk said and I hope to put data analysis to good use as I learn now and get to practise later.
Just completed week 5 of the Google Data Analytics course and seeing everyone in the comments encourage each other on this journey is so heartwarming! It can be a bit overwhelming and stressful at times but we are all in this together. Congratulations to everyone for getting this far and keep up the amazing work! We got this!

Hey there! I just finished Week 5 too, and to be honest, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed at times. Sometimes, I even question whether I made the right choice to switch careers. Yes, career change can be scary. People can be scary. Company cultures can be intimidating. I'm pivoting my career a bit so most of these concepts aren't new to me but they were only a few years ago. Stick with it and learn to be ok with NOT knowing everything all at once. You'll get it, but only if don't fail by giving up. Stick with it!!

@Huy Phạm Quốc going very well... I've used the skills I learnt from the course to get my first Job in tech! I resumed as a Product Analyst/Manager earlier this week. Tbh, I'm yet to complete my course but yeah, the skills have been super helpful.
I started the first module 3 days ago on 10/15/2024. I was laid off from my UAW factory job, and I'm putting all I've got into this. This is a record of my humble beginnings. I will update when something comes of this, whatever it may be. I'm determined to improve my career trajectory, and this is the first step.
Almost finished first course in three days. All of this is getting very very interesting. Can't wait to see what future opportunities would it bring for me. Still 7 courses to go, and i am so excited. Edit :- Date - 3 September 2022 I have not been very consistent, but i keep coming back and tried to do little more. I went all in for first 4 courses, but slowly lost consistency. But, i didn't quit, and i would not quit. At this moment, i have finished 6 courses, 2 more to go. I will come back soon after completing the last one. Thank you all.
Three main take outs from the talk, in my opinion; 1. Data analyst need to have good people skills and should always be listener. => when she talks about how she transitioned from talker to listener in her career and how it impacted her work 2. The path is long and winding with ups and down so you need to be consistent => her journey from math major to analyst to a parent to a student she was consistent in pursuance of her passion 3. The power of storytelling is critical to understand patterns and gain insights from it =>how data analyst is as much as arts as it is a science

When you think about Data analysis, think about spending time with people, think about asking questions and think about lifting the heavy rock. Really nice way to think through the art and science of becoming a data analyst. Nice one

Having been a data analyst I find this very relatable. You start out thinking it's all about the numbers, but you really start having fun and adding value when you realize the impact of the data on people.

I'm seeing folks talking about being here from the Google Analytics course and it's added to my excitement. It's week 5 baby! I admire Anna's gift of storytelling, which paints a vivid picture and gave some much needed clarity of what the task, role of a data analyst is; why data analysis is important. I can't wait to continue on this journey!
@@tsetse4327 Yaaay! You are doing great. So far so good. It gets more interesting as you progress. You'll get introduced to SQL (which is really cool) and visualisation with Tableau. That one makes everything seem so colourful. There is so much to learn that sometimes you will want to take a break to take it all in. I am currently at the part where we are taught a programming language - R. I had travelled for some time so lost about 3 weeks of study. Hopefully I should be done by the second week in June, with the Capstone projeect. All in all, it's all worth it, and just hang in there. :)

i feel like i just finished my first semester and everyone is outside of the class talking about the last class. Thank you for the speech Anna. I am currently a postgraduate student doing research in the civil engineering field while also taking the google analysis program. The last part you talked about in regards to being the bridge between to different world inspired me.

This reminds of when I was doing an undergrad project, I had to collect the data, spend a lot of time analyzing it and ensuring that the work I was doing was insightful and worth it, for sure i enjoyed the entire process and in the end everything turned out to be exceptional. I'm here from the Google Data Analytics course as most of the people here. Hello everyone! I truly understood what Anna refers with that rift between the educational practice and the academic research. I got into this course precisely because I am a social scientist and, besides some freelance projectd, most of my professional experience comes out from the academia. I also think data analysis could be a bridge to overcome that rift she is talking about. It is a way that we as social scientist can adapt to the contemporary world in the so called era of dataism. As we saw in the last part of the course, dealing with fairness issues, social science provides great insights to set data into context. The theoretical and the applied can merge through data science in such an interesting ways...

It's my second time of watching this video, first was when I was trying to watch any Data Analysis material that appeals to me, 2nd is week 5. It makes more sense to me today compared to the first day. Yes, I believe that understanding the problem to be solved is very important. I have always wanted studying maths right from my higher institution but my Dad then didnt agree but here i am now into Data Analytics course in My Course 1 week 5 I'm so happy and i pray my passion and determination never ceases
All I can say is WOW! I currently work in higher education and am taking the google analytics course. This TedTalk hit home for me in so many ways, and there truly is a need for more data analysis to inform better decision-making in institutions in ample ways. Hoping I can be part of the solution after I complete this course!

Glad to see so any aspiring data analyst its really motivating to see them all going in the same direction. I started this course on 18 may 2023 and today is 1 June .I completed first course in 13 days I would like to request all my fellow students to update their comments once they got a job so the others can get help from them.
Her perspective on academic research is what I agree with!!! It has been affecting research in medicine, where publication numbers are more valuable than quality and solving problems! Thank you for this great talk!
To anyone in week 5 and seeing this behind everyone else- it's okay if life gets in the way, it did for me too. But we're here now and ready to finish strong- keep it up and stick with the course!
Well, here reading in the comments that some people finished Course 1 in a week or even days almost makes me feel embarrassed lol. I am going very slow, it took me 3 weeks to finish Course 1 lol. Still, I feel excited, I am totally changing my career path, from being a cook/waiter to becoming a data analyst. I have faith that this will go well for me and will change my life forever. Week 5! Am happy seeing others that has passed these stage before me, It has encouraged me to push further and harder to finish up the courses. One thing we can all agree on is that no matter the industry your are in, story telling is a very important skill to have.

I admire Anna's gift of storytelling, which paints a vivid picture and gave some much needed clarity of what the task, role of a data analyst is; why data analysis is important. I can't wait to continue on this journey!

Hello! It's been 2 months - how is it going? I'm just finishing week 5 and wondering what's ahead)
@@tsetse4327 Yaaay! You are doing great. So far so good. It gets more interesting as you progress. You'll get introduced to SQL (which is really cool) and visualisation with Tableau. That one makes everything seem so colourful. There is so much to learn that sometimes you will want to take a break to take it all in. I am currently at the part where we are taught a programming language - R. I had travelled for some time so lost about 3 weeks of study. Hopefully I should be done by the second week in June, with the Capstone projeect.
All in all, it's all worth it, and just hang in there. :)

i feel like i just finished my first semester and everyone is outside of the class talking about the last class. Thank you for the speech Anna. I am currently a postgraduate student doing research in the civil engineering field while also taking the google analysis program. The last part you talked about in regards to being the bridge between to different world inspired me.
"Data analysis is as much an art as it is a science," I absolutely conquer with you. This reminds of when I was doing an undergrad project, I had to collect the data, spend a lot of time analyzing it and ensuring that the work I was doing was insightful and worth it, for sure i enjoyed the entire process and in the end everything turned out to be exceptional. Your talk has rekindled this analytical desire and as i reminisce how the process was, I'm more and more attracted to this career. Thank you for such an inspiration and to the comments in this chat. Currently I'm learning Google data analytics certification course in Coursera, and I'm really enjoying the course. Thank you Anna Leach, Google and TED.

I'm here from the Google Data Analytics course as most of the people here. Hello everyone! I truly understood what Anna refers with that rift between the educational practice and the academic research. I got into this course precisely because I am a social scientist and, besides some freelance projectd, most of my professional experience comes out from the academia. I also think data analysis could be a bridge to overcome that rift she is talking about. It is a way that we as social scientist can adapt to the contemporary world in the so called era of dataism. As we saw in the last part of the course, dealing with fairness issues, social science provides great insights to set data into context. The theoretical and the applied can merge through data science in such an interesting ways...

It's my second time of watching this video, first was when I was trying to watch any Data Analysis material that appeals to me, 2nd is week 5.
It makes more sense to me today compared to the first day.

Glad to see so any aspiring data analyst its really motivating to see them all going in the same direction. I started this course on 18 may 2023 and today is 1 June .I completed first course in 13 days I would like to request all my fellow students to update their comments once they got a job so the others can get help from them.

Well, here reading in the comments that some people finished Course 1 in a week or even days almost makes me feel embarrassed lol. I am going very slow, it took me 3 weeks to finish Course 1 lol. Still, I feel excited, I am totally changing my career path, from being a cook/waiter to becoming a data analyst. I have faith that this will go well for me and will change my life forever. “Data analysis is as much an art as it is a science”. I really commend Anna’s storytelling skills, loved every bit of this. This whole video reaffirmed what we have been taught for 5 weeks in Coursera. Collection of data, how data is people I.e Communication, and even fairness in data.
