Halo 2's control room area had a literally perfect atmosphere. the lonely tower, cloudy skies, yellow-tinged dawn light on the sparse cliffs hanging over grey water, a single covenant cruiser hanging on the horizon and all tied together by this track. no Halo game has ever had a better-crafted environment than Uprising and The Great Journey. in fact they couldn't even replicate this atmosphere in the remaster, that's how perfect it is. we're damn lucky to have it

I got the first Xbox and Halo CE on my 9th birthday 15th Nov, 2001, and I played through it with my cousin 5 years older than me and with whom I had a lot in common (family problems), to the point that I considered him my brother. We had a strong bond and Halo CE was our way to escape the reality of life, it was one my best childhood memory and my best gaming memory ever. A few months before Halo 2 came out, in August 2004, my cousin who was a cook apprentice had an argument with his boss and left work on his bike without a helmet and at high speed. He collided with a truck and died on the spot. I was devastated and when Halo 2 came out, I approched it with grief and anger. Halo 2 was all about " what has been lost " and what can be done to move forward. I can't express how much this game and its soundtrack mean to me, and tears roll my fucking eyes as i'm writing this. Halo carried me through the toughest times of my life and for that I strive everyday towards all values that Halo 2 taught me : Honor, humility, discipline, camaraderie, hardship, the acceptance of grief and failure, willpower, determination and bravery... And so much more... When I die, i'll go feet first into hell with Steve Vai making love to the Halo theme !
