CATACLYSM - An extremely difficult SMW hack

- This is my first pit hack. It's very difficult (it might be the hardest pit hack in existence). It's also the first pit hack to require the use of the pause button. In case you want to play this, you should visit this forum post: www.smwcentral.net/?p=viewthr...
This video is tool-assisted. For more information, visit tasvideos.org
Frames: 16975
Rerecords: Well over 30000 - Ігри
The aesthetics, the music, the insane and creative setups... this pit hack is just a pleasure, what a great way to start off the new decade.
And this aged like fine milk
Talk about fresh spoiled milk
@@9w8suxjehsoxjznwi laugh.
Incredible stuff, very impressive. Watching this kind of thing refreshes my interest into TASing, so thank you.
You know a level designer knows every in and out of the game when they managed to make the PAUSE button a mandatory element of completing the level
The tricks are so hard even this TAS guy has to pause to prevent getting a heart attack
bro this deserves so many more views for the dedication it took to pull this off
It's nice to see a pit hack that uses many fresh tricks and setups.
I guess the main takeaways from this are: You can double grab on Yoshi 01:27 (so in particular, single grabbing on Yoshi is NOT frame perfect) and there's a fast way of flying in 2 tile high gaps 03:51
TODO: Find a glitch to get Yoshi past 01:51
I had never put these facts together for some reason. Single grabbing on Yoshi is a 2 frames window. Nice to know.
You have superb skills !! Some parts seem so creative and difficult..
I expect dacin to find Raznor break somewhere, he always finds them somehow
Holy shit, do we need more pits hacks like this!
The creator of this hack: How hard do i want this hack to be?
Also the creator: yes
*Half hundredth*
Wazzup, HF01! Love the music and colour palettes you made for this hack that is so short (in a sweet way) you made yourself!
Elevator at the end of Interloper: "Am I a joke to you?"
Yes
How much do you have to hurt a person for them to make this
how did i miss this? amazing job though
TASers are gonna have a field day explaining every input required to beat this game
i'LL TAS this. So much fun.
Please note that I just uploaded an updated version which fixes a major break in the second room found by TheBiob (item swapping the p-switch to make it silver). This is the final version though.
@@xHF01x alright, I'll wait a little bit in any case, since I'm doing some projects already.
0:21 is that a custom shell?
1:33 really cool idea getting those tongue cancelled shells. Would be a really difficult puzzle to solve if you don't know you need to do that. I think you can squeeze Yoshi through there maybe... bounce off the koopa and give yourself invincibility by using the shell to hit you off Yoshi while you bring him through the 3 tile space at the top.
No, that's a vanilla shell. It's just a weird glitch: If you spin jump on a shell the frame you land on the ground, you jump off the shell normally.
0:21 - Is this an old glitch?
The first mention that I'm aware of is this: twitter.com/Kaizoman666/status/869397277370142720
Let’s try this!
Well hot damn that was impressive.
hey, are there any resources of bugs or movement techniques modern pit hack TASers use? the one on TASvideos seems fairly outdated
Me resisting the urge to make a gd reference (also nice tas)
Amazing!
Best hack l've seen,very good.
Cataclysm in GBoy’s dreams.
que emulador usas yo quiero jugar
What kind of next level Cape Feather tech is that? ( 3:27 )
why does it need the pause button
4:00 mit der Feder zu fliegen und gleichzeitig dublizieren finde ich großartig :)
Eventuell wäre so etwas in leichter ein schönes Thema für ein Inferilevel für Conan? xD
damn, mouth was agape the entire time. completely badass and inhuman :-P
What song is this?
excuse me is this a remix of a theme, a song you made just for this or is it someone else,s song. i am asking because the song sounds fricking amazing
This was beating at the speed of light ;)
i havent TASed SMW in ages so i'm kinda outdated on some of the tricks and glitches, why is the pause button required for this specific pit hack?
You only interact with most sprites on every 2nd frame: This mechanic is commonly called "the frame rule" in the kaizo community. Some of these shell jumps (or other jumps) are frame perfect, so I sometimes have to pause the game to change the frame rule that I'm on (the timer that determines the interaction with sprites continues to increase even while the game is paused). Similarly, sprites can only spawn every 2nd frame, so some pauses are used to manipulate that instead.
@@xHF01x i did not know that, thanks for the info! so much has changed over the years with TASing it would seem. so does this "every 2nd frame" for sprites also occur in other games such as SMB? as i have heard this "frame rule" term before with that game as well but am not sure if it would apply in the same way.
And here I thought people wouldn't go much harder than item abuse. Great job man, can't wait to see TASers attempt to rip this one apart! Also, how many times harder is this hack when compared to item abuse 3? I just wanted a rough idea from someone who knows this craft..
Its difficult to quantify difficulty. You could compare subpixel margins of comparable jumps (or you could notice that the flying section in here is much tighter than the one in IA3, as the pitchin' chuck at 3:52 requires you to really understand the flying mechanics) but the main difficulty in here comes from an entirely different fact: In TASing, most setups become trivial once you've played them enough times. The difficulty of this hack thus stems from the fact that most of these setups are quite dissimilar to what you would usually encounter: Most TASers never considered pausing, you usually dont encounter speeds above 64 in this game, you usually dont shelljump with an eat-canceled shell, barely any consecutive shell jump setup requires you to keep p-meter and the list goes on (Most difficult bits are hidden: The pause at 3:10 for example is needed, but what does it actually accomplish?). It doesn't help that all of the jumps are as tight as I could build them, which requires you to really think about what you're doing.
xHF01x Oh jeez, so its a challange on a different level when you spell it out like that... Damn. Thanks for the explanation! Knowing really helps understanding achievments haha
Impresionante
Agradável
Not as hard as mobile Mario world but still poggers.
Welp not gonna be able to play this for a while lol. How long did it take you to make this?
"This is the pit hack that I've been working on for the past year." so I think over half an year but less than year
I would sooner become president of Venus than play this.
what is the purpose of the pause at certain moments?
Create glitches
que increíble
I'm tasing this hack, at 0:19, this perfect spin jump and grab the throw block with no speed damage is truly hard..:( spent about 8000~ rerecords only there... still trying
Be aware that while spin jumping, you change the direction you're facing every 4 frames. you cant grab the throwblock while facing right, so you might have to waste a few frames to adjust the frame rule. otherwise, just keep trying, you'll make it eventually. good luck
¿What is music from?
Meat boy
What is the song? It's really good!
super meat boy - hot damned (or just super meat boy hell theme, for that matter)
cool romhack
Music?
Anonymous_Gamer_26 Super meat boy, the hell level OST. Its a classic.
music name?
Super Meat Boy-Hot Damned
Wowzers... 🤯🤯🤯
epic
Hot Damned - Super Meat Boy
Is this even possible without TAS?
lol nah
I have this video but it's Serbia and his computer
There is harder Pit Hacks but no one has beaten them without TASing.
"it might be the hardest pit in existence"
there is no way this is harder than item abuse 3 dude.
This is harder imo. Item abuse 3 is fairly straightforward if you've beaten other older pit hacks, the only sections that might throw you off are the double shell juggle on the key and the disco shell throw block juggle to prevent it from unloading (also i think distant block duping was fairly new back then?). This hack however is packed to the brim with unusual tech, including tricks that might be invisible to the inexperienced player's eye (e.g. the jump at 3:01, you don't just hold right there as you might expect, you actually need to manipulate mario's p meter).
Either way, I'm fairly sure neither of them are the hardest at this point. Then again, is it really about difficulty?
Bruh where are the indicators
Of course its a TAS because a human cannot time perfectly to wall jump and not miss a single one but im not sure
walljumping is probably one of the easiest tricks you will find in this hack...
It is designed to be extremely difficult, even when you have all the tools of a TAS
When God gets bored
Jesus fuck
wtf
Bruh that’s super meat boy?
