  • Finally the day has arrived! I drove down to Fort Lauderdale to Airmark overhaul to pick up the new- recently overhauled zero-time Lycoming 0320-E2D and it is ready!
    After a quick 3.5 hour trip I dropped the engine off and they had it hun on the airplane this morning. If everything goes well, we should be testing on Wednesday and then after a 2 hour flight around the airport at 5K and full throttle following proper breaking procedures, (to make sure everything is golden) I shall head to a new destination,... which I will reveal in due time!
    Yes! I bought an airplane! This program has some initial numbers and breaks down the monthly expenses. Owning an airplane can be affordable... but the upgrades.... That is what will get me. Watch this program to find out what ownership costs.
    Have you always wanted to learn how to fly but now you are over 50? Get out there and start and learn! There are so many people in there 50's and 60's who are just starting to fly so what are you waiting for?

    I'm happy for you Ted. I just had a double lung transplant. Haven't flown in 2 months. I'm trying hard to get into flying shape by Aug 1st or thereabouts. I'm ELSA so as long as I can drive a car I can fly. I know what you've been going through with all this waiting. Congrats!!

    So exciting!! Looking forward to seeing her back where she belongs, in the air (although not nearly as much as you are obviously). 😃Go Ted!!

    Ask them to install JATO tubes on the side, if they can...

    When I first read this I thought it said "pickling my engine" and I got nervous. I'll work on my reading skills. 😉 Glad you got your new engine and 24Y will take to the skies once again.

    Congrats, Ted! Can you share what if any of the accessories you overhauled as well? I hear that can add a lot to the price of the process. Thanks!

    I have been following your journey bit by bit, mostly on flying tips. Really enjoy it all. Was wondering what prompted the new engine? Did you upgrade the power? I am 72 and have had some health issues trying to get back in the air.

    • @Over50andLearningToFly
      @Over50andLearningToFly  2 роки тому

      The old engine had about 1850 hours on it and I had already replaced two cylinders on it so basically anything I was going to do to it it wasn’t going to get better and it was just time. It wasn’t only the hours but the engine was about 25 years old so it really did need to be replaced - that’s fantastic get back into the air and don’t let the health problems get in your way you can overcome! Thanks for watching!

    Great to get your engine at last. I would have had now baffle seals fitted as the one there look a bit old (might just be dirt), as I would want to ensure the cooling was perfect with my new engine.

    Hi there! Am I correct that you were planning to sell this plane (or already did)? And that you were going to get another plane? Any updates on that?

    • @Over50andLearningToFly

    Hey my O360 is up in Wisconsin for the overhaul..since last time we exchanged messages...question what cylinders did you install? are these Lycoming overhauled or??? i hear that for Lycoming there is a long wait and are backordered due to Covid.....I have opted to get brand new Superior Millennium Cyl they came very much recommended by my mechanic...
    Last question...did they run the engine at the overhaul shop?

    • @Over50andLearningToFly
      @Over50andLearningToFly  3 роки тому +1

      Yes I got the millennium cylinders and they did run the engine for a couple hours at the shop and he said it ran great I am really psyched to get this thing going and I should be back up in the air late next week. Thanks for watching!

      @@Over50andLearningToFly yes i understand, even if this market it is super crazy and it favors sellers (you easily can sell high but still have to buy another one) ...honestly I am in your same situation with a solid low TT aircraft with a brand new engine...i will not sell, I also did the 2 G5's and GNC355 this past February...don't need anything else...mmm maybe a garmin autopilot :) (always need something to upgrade LOL)!!!!
