This is why Jim Clark considered Dan Gurney a fierce competitor. Gurney forced Clark into commiting one of the few errors that Clark ever done in his entire career. Forget about AJ Foyt, Andretti was a badass, but Dan 'The Man' Gurney was it back then. He was obviously no one to f@ck with when it was _'Game On"._ That's it and that's that.
Courtesy of Peter Windsor article about Jim Clark: _".....This left me in the lead but with a problem on my hands. It was not worthwhile stretching myself or the car so long as Graham and Dan were behind me, towing one another around. I was basically a sitting duck and when they passed me I remember they whisked by so quickly that they almost caught me on the hop. I then managed to get into their slipstream. The three of us had a grand race of it before Graham retired. Dan and I then had a great set-to, for our cars were fairly equal in performance.... "_ *_"I remember at one stage coming up to lap Innes Ireland in the BRP-BRM. He was much quicker than both Dan or I down the straights but we had him on the corners. I first tried on one bend to get past on the inside but Innes blocked me off. Then I tried again and the same thing happened."_* “The next time around I thought I would play it crafty, *so I waited until Dan had come up close behind me and I made a pass at Innes.* I eased off slightly *and let Dan go through. Innes thought that Dan was me and moved over again* - but no-one does this sort of thing to Dan. *In the ensuing battle of wits Dan eased Innes out,"..._* - Jim Clark
@@maxmulsanne7054 My comment was from around 2019 which was a really bad period in my life. I’d never comment anything like that now, and I 100% agree with you that the comment was unnecessary and stupid. I do appreciate that you brought it up and I’m gonna delete the comment.
@@emphy- That's okay and thanks. I was tanked up on vodka and forgot what this was about of what was said. Anyways motorsports is not something that I'm passionate about; I'm addicted to it - *literally addicted to it* - more so than cold women & warm beer. Or even cigarettes for that matter. Going on 40yrs now and I still can't kick the habit. My comment was hostile and unnecessary as well, so I will delete my measure also. Cheers my good man. 🍺🙂🏁💨
Anybody but with Dan Gurney in your mirrors. I you have any doubts about that then I kindly suggest that you refer to the Internet archives as how *Jim Clark identified Dan Gurney:* as a viable threat. Nothing more, nothing less. As i already demonstrated to you by Peter Windsor's piece.
Monaco GP 1964? What was lucky about Clark hitting the exiting barrier leading out on the _Chicane De Port_ at Monaco? Grant it he had lucky strides, but he did make mistakes once in a while. He was human after all.

who finally came up with roll cage back of the driver? These days you were pretty much gone if you rolled over. Good for him.
People were tough back then. Roll cages weren't necessary.
Lucky!
