Glad you did this review. I currently owned both of these irons set. Distance is similar. Feel it’s about the same, height cannot tell any difference but Wilson’s are a tad softer and sometimes more forgiving in my opinion. I bought the Wilson’s first and I still love them then bought the tailor-made just for the looks. TM P790 Makes you feel like a better player, but honestly I could not get rid of my Wilson’s D9 forged. Wilson is a very solid club. Both sets are paired with their respective red tour staff bag. They both look killers. Great review.
Thanks, good to hear I might not be talking complete nonsense all the time. Yes I really like the look of both, I wish they hadn't called them D9 Forged and instead linked them to the Staff Model range - hoping they might do that next time. Still not sure if I'm going to change, might even explore the combination idea - strengthened P770s and some P790s or something like that, but I haven't tried the new Callaways and still expecting a replacement D9 Forged early next year. Still lots to get into. Thanks for watching.
Your comment about P790 making you "feel like a better player" is 100% true and makes me smile at how many golfers are worried about what others think. If you are a player who really knows Golf is about actual scoring though, the Wilson D9 forged is one of the best irons of any category ive seen in years.
@@MeandMyStaffy😅 yes the D9 forged are accurate and consistent. It’s probably one of the best irons I’ve ever owned, had ping, mizuno, ben hogan, cobras in the past. But I have not felt this good about a set of irons like this Wilsons in a long time.
Just bumped across this review and it struck a chord. Last year I was in my local American Golf store (with an inside to outside driving range). I tried out both back-to-back. Couldn’t get on with the P790’s at all, but the D9 forged felt and went great. Fast forward to this spring, and with the launch of the new Dynapower forged I picked up a set of the D9’s for good money. Super pleased. They look, feel and play fantastic. Definitely an underrated brand, hidden to some extent by the big guys.
Exactly, couldn’t agree more. There were some unbelievable deals on the outgoing D9. As good a feeling, looking and forgiving an iron as you can get. I’ve only just changed to Ping Blueprint S and only because I’ve had Wilson’s for about six years straight and wanted a complete change, wouldn’t surprise me if I wish I hadn’t. Will find out over the coming months.
The D9 just feels so much better. I think the p790 and the hollow headed clubs just feels clicky to me. I do love the way they look though, just not enough to change from my D9.
Thanks for the info, I'm still looking at a new set of irons, I play Wilson 1200-TN Gear Effects probably circa 1988, love them but its time for a new set.
I remember those, you can definitely justify a new set and I don't think you'll be disappointed with the new technology, whatever you go for. Wilson are still making some great products so trying something from them as your first port of call might not be a bad idea.
New Wilson Dynapower forged with dynamic gold Mid shaft : more elevation better contacts for me 🥇I had the P790 before powerful but lower trajectory and I found the felling with very dry contact.🇫🇷
Thanks for the review. I was looking at the P790 too, or the Srixon zx5 with a graphite shaft. Just bought the D9 forged (sale at 370,- Pounds) and they feel very, very good at the first round. I didn't get a fitting, but I buy all clubs after good research and comparison of prices. I am average at most specs, always have been. I feel that I get way more value for money this way. I mean, 370 Pounds for a set of 6 clubs where the clubs are rated very good by most players? Bargain! My previous set was Mizuno JPX 919 HM, very good game improvement set in the same price range. But I wanted to try a forged set. This seemed like the best alternative since it was on sale as a demo set. Hardly any marks on them. I think I am going to love them. As stated, the first round was promising, mishits; I have to blame myself off course. 🙂
Thanks, no I haven’t, there’s a Titleist National fitting centre along the road so there’s not a lot of point having a load of demo Titleist stuff, but yes I’ll try to get my hands on one and see if I can test it myself.
Yes, I wish they were a bit daintier but they're good enough looking combined with being really very forgiving and actually really soft. When you hit the D9 Forged out of the middle they're really very soft feeling aswell.
@@golffm6924 They're a low launch and low spin iron cause of the slot tech used in the club but iuess u could pair them with a high launch shaft and they'd be monee!
I have 921 tours and I'm just not good enough for them lol. Do the D9s feel like shovels? I would expect not, even if they are a little bigger. Any comparison vs the Wilson staff CB?
D9 Forged feel really soft. I did a video on the CBs (ua-cam.com/video/HvV5XYWLPKs/v-deo.html) but not directly against the D9 Forgeds. It's not really a contest to be honest. The D9 Forged are better for distance and forgiveness, it's just the looks and possibly the feel where the CBs score.

I’m going for an iron fitting tomorrow and a really like the look of the D9 forged
Brilliant iron, and some great deals on it at the moment. Hopefully they're still available!

Love your subtle sense of humor 😊
Thanks, and thanks for watching. Cheers
Good video.. anyone know if these stiff shafts are the DG 105 s300 VSS, or just DG 105 s300?
without the VSS, thanks for watching

The D9 does definitely does feel really good off the clubface, really soft.

Yeah they're really nice the Wilsons but I just want a change.
Personally I have the Wilson's and some great deals can be found. I will have them in the bag this holiday
Definitely some great deals, although they won’t be around for too much longer as new I wouldn’t think. Brilliant clubs.
Wilson d9 forged are a perfect club .there are lots of options for irons but the d9 forged are phenomenal in my opinion .
Yes, totally agree. Brilliant all rounder.
Solid information. Thanks. Try Cobra KIng Forged Tec next?
Don't have a Cobra account at the moment unfortunately, but maybe one day.
The Wilson's are now only£599 for 7club set
The D9 Forged at the moment could be the iron deal of the year. Almost all it's rivals are close to double the price.
£84 each from golf online you can spec them how you like buy just one or all nine of them

I certainly love the D9 Forged, really soft feel, really forgiving and really powerful. Sounds like a great deal.
Nice comparison, have you tested new titleist t200.

no need.

Wilson, 3 to pw, near £500 now... new
It’s an unbelievable deal that now.
