The entire class had to be rebuilt in the early 1950s due to frame cracking. That was when the double chimneys and high superheat were fitted as the coal was not so good as when they were built.
Sam, I absolutely love this series. I really gives off a " junkyard wars" type of vibe and the production value is fantastic. Its really great to see you try out new series ideas and I definitely think you have a winner here.
Accidents do happen with model trains. I accidentally dropped my little Lancashire and Yorkshire pug back in june and broke its chimney, luckily I am pretty good at gluing stuff back together and the damage is barely noticeable.
I enjoy all your videos, Sam, but I think I like the Salvage or Scrap series the most. I hope you will consider a second round of such episodes in the future. Cheers and Happy Christmas from Wisconsin!
Great episode! Please please let there be a season 2, I would love to see more! If not, this was a great episode to end the series on, a great high note!
I wanna take this time to say that your content is absolutely brilliant, for model train fans you offer a great variety of content that is equally entertaining, bravo Sam.
About salvaging or scrapping...Are you interested by a test of the forthcoming retooled Heljan Tango ? I saw this one coming on Rails of Sheffield website, that might be interesting to see if Heljan had been able to fix her, or not...
Loved this series apart from the scrap man giving me serious heebee geebees!!!! Would love to see a new service series as your old ones have helped not just servicing but alsr repairing/ making my old locos run like new again!!!
There hasn't been a single scrap this season, so thats pretty good, but I am hoping for season 2, to see what does happen when the locomotives get to the treatment of the scrapman
Well, if nothing else you definitely passed the Heat Shrink Challenge 😜 🏆 Glad you saved this one mate. Lovely locos. I’ve got a single chimney BR livery variant myself and it is just lovely watching it glide along with its long rake of GWR brown and cream liveried Mk1 carriages in tow! Effect accompaniment to a sarnie and a beer on a sunny afternoon 🍺 🥪 😎 I must say, I have learnt a few things about servicing and repairs thanks to you and a few others online. I used to be terrified of breaking the things 🤣😂😅 Thanks as ever mate 🍻🍀👍
This is got to be the best series ever I wonder what the new patience will be Cause There are more locos that need to be saved from that scrap And I repeat there are Locomotives that need to be saved from the scrap man
@@SamsTrains Thank you for being the best. If i never found your channel I wouldn't of gotten into model trains. I've recently set up my new track with new engines. Your an inspired me. Thank you again
I have the same king class model (6002) though at least mine is still in new-like condition with no broke bits. It's also one of my smoothest runners. The previous owner of this model must of been a novice or not used to handling premium models. I started with Thomas bachmann models and then hornby railroad models before i got my first railway/premium model. Thank you for saving Hornby's best valued and accurate/realistic model, Sam'sTrains.😁 Cheers, Jason
Nuts, I really wanted to see the Scrap Man get a loco! Sam, if you like I can send you an American Tyco locomotive with a "Power Torque" motor that looks salvageable but isn't. The Scrap man needs a guilt free snack.!🧁
I just bought a Hornby A3 the newer dcc ready one dcc decoder in the tender was a non runner and the front boggie was not right and got all detail on it nothing missing it said. Got fora bragging price of 40. It came Thursday the loco tender were apart from each other so I had look in the tender found out it was dcc sound fitted. So I couple the loco and the tender back up to each other to test it to see if the decoder was the problem put the locomotive on the track program it and it work fist time. The biggie screw just need to be tightened up. Not bad going
Great series Sam. Shane it is over. In a really nice way, I kind of wished one had gone to the scrap man. Hopefully this comes back next year. When is your hush hush review coming???
Of course it would be a King class lol The one I ordered is still stuck in customs. Great work on that! Seeing it in such a state was depressing. Cheered when you finished it.
Well done Sam for salvaging this lovely model which had fallen into the hands of someone who had no basic knowledge of servicing locomotives. Thank goodness it didn't fall into the hands of the evil Scrapman!
Hi Sam, I just watched this and I was holding my breath in the hope that you would be able to fix it - what a lovely looking loco! I’ve subscribed to your channel as well, you have a great way of presenting! Well done. Cheers for now mate. ………….Graham

I don't think I knew that Henry - cool stuff!!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)

I was the most excited for this one. I didn’t know how such a modern and beautiful loco could go into disrepair so quickly!
haha yeah... I wasn't sure how well a modern loco would go... turns out pretty well! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)

@@bentullett6068 I did the exact same thing last December! Just as I was getting it out the box. Whoops!
Y hi 6
@@bentullett6068 I dropped my Hornby RWS Thomas so we glued the front back on
One day we'll get to see the terrifying scrapmap eating a failed loco!
Yep
Still a single locomotive has not met it's grave yet you are so good at repairing The scrap man has not gotten his lunch
haha I know... I think I've been too generous with the timings.... this will change next time ;)
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Awesome to see the GWR King Class back in great condition ready to become a great runner! Thanks for saving the King! 👑
It looks like the Scrapman won't be having Scrap ever again. Well done, my fellow British train enthusiast
Truly impressed - dismantle, repair and re-assemble in 24 min. Wow.
Decent restoration there Sam it’s good to see locomotives fixed up.
Thanks David! Yes I was glad about this one! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Gotta say, I really appreciate the early MythBusters vibe you have going with these. Glad you've been able to keep the series going this long.
this has been a very fun series Sam, really enjoyed it for the suspense of will or won't it be salvaged. hope a second series is on the horizon.
Good job Sam, but I feel bad for the poor scrapman. I hope you do another season on this series.
Okey but I didn't expect the Scrapman to be actually super creepy 😱 loved it
haha thank you!! :D
This is one of my favorite locomotive classes when I was a kid.
I enjoy all your videos, Sam, but I think I like the Salvage or Scrap series the most. I hope you will consider a second round of such episodes in the future. Cheers and Happy Christmas from Wisconsin!
Good job Sam. You're extremely talented, always rooting for you to finish them in time.

it's kinda funny that this wholesome little model train channel just has an eldritch horror in a small cabinet

What a beautiful time for the restoration of this beautiful model train, 5 stars all the way Mr Sam's trains.
Brilliant work on fixing the locomotive Sam, you brought the it back from the dead!
Lol this guy is a regular model train miracle worker good god I always have a smile on my face seeing these dead engines running free on the rails
That "Scrapman" is NIGHTMARISH...😱
I recommend using epoxy glue to glue details back on as some types of super glue leave a white cloudy residue. also will there ever be a season 2?
This is amazing I could watch this forever👍😊
This is by far my fav thing you do.
There hasn't been a single scrap this season, so thats pretty good, but I am hoping for season 2, to see what does happen when the locomotives get to the treatment of the scrapman
Perhaps Sam you could go out to some Charity Shops and buy some more locomotives to restore, the series is definitely one of my favourites
Totally! Once the pandemic is over, it'll be much easier to find new candidates! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
A has been waiting so long for him to do the King Class and I am so happy you got it fixed!
haha me too - very glad I didn't have to scrap that one!!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Yay another amazing salvage or scrap video cant wait!
Yes this is a great series is there a possibly S2?
Yes very possibly - next year fingers crossed! :D

You were lucky that only turned out to be a loose connection and it wasn't the motor that had burnt out! Thanks for uploading.
Sam has a perfect track record (ha pun) on salvage or scrap so far! Can’t wait for the next one!
Hi Sam. Thank you for noticing me in the live stream. It's the first one i watched and the first one i donated two

Heat shrink? Heat shrink? Heat shrink? Heat Shrink :D!! - SamsTrains , 2021
Ooh another salvage or scrap. Quite a modern one this is, surprised it got so bad so quickly. Great video. Heat shrink!
I’m glad to see a loco in this condition restored to good use.
Merry Christmas and this series of video has been really good 😊
Thanks so much Sam - really glad you've enjoyed it! :D

So Glad that you managed to fix the Ex GWR King, I would like a King Class but for me it woould have to be in original GWR livery!

I watched the last episode and my 2 year old came down from a nap as the scrap man introduced himself.... he cried 🤣
Hi sam I love the series and well done for fixing the loco . Please could you carry on with the series in 2022.
Let's face it Sam, you wouldn't bin that!
Glad you got her running - lovely locomotive models.

@@SamsTrains You're more than welcome 👍
poor Scrapman, he gets no love. his voice makes me laugh though, sounds like Boris Karlof in that old Abbot & Costello movie with the cave.
We should start calling you the "heat shrink" man instead of the "warwell" man XD
I referbish trains from Hornby and Bachman to Juhong Railway,Metro,Light rail and Trams standards.
Nice work Sam. This one turned out excellent
Awesome video today Sam thank god you was able to save it

Ooo, king William IV! I got one of those! This one is more recent though, I’ve had mine since 2012…
Actually, I think mine also doesn’t have the double chimney
Great series Sam. Shane it is over. In a really nice way, I kind of wished one had gone to the scrap man.
Hopefully this comes back next year.
When is your hush hush review coming???
I Will Definitely Be Waiting For A Season 2!
It’s always interesting to see a loco’s internals. Easy peasy this one Sam. For a 2016, it was in an accident I suppose, lol.
Great video! Nice locomtive. Good work! Thumbs Up

... Wait A Minute?! How can the Scrap Man knock on his door when he has no flipping hands?!
Sam. This is seriously an issue.
The scrap man is gonna die of starvation at this rate 😉
No scrap man this time ❤️🚂👍. Kool video
Was looking forward to this one sam it's a beautiful loco well done 👏👍
