    this shouldn't discourage yall to study law, especially if learning about the law is your passion. The path of a law student is never easy, because at the end of the road, you will represent someone who needs their rights protected.
    If you want it then go for it.

      I almossttttt giving up this big ambition of mine but then you said "someone who needs right to protect", it build up my confidence more in a split second because THAT IS THE SECOND thing of why I choose to be lawyer. (First and priority is secret but it's not selfish one HAHAH).
      And the most good thing is my dad work in a field where they count and decide who have the land, how big it was, so it will help me a lot in the future i guess

    Hi there, i came across yr video and im really glad that you stated out the facts that i was thinking too. Im currently studying law , sem 1, but recently im kinda lost. Lost as in im not sure whether this is the career i want to pursue in for the restvof my life. Tbh i had passion in physio but as you said, due to asian family standards i was pressured by that at the time i made my choice. But now im kinda regretting it as i want to pursue a career that i have interest in and achieve job satisfactory. Im highly doubtful that working in the legal field would giv me that rather than burning me out. For me, i think work life balance is essential too. I have more interest in physiotherapy now, but im afraid and worried to consult my parents. Could you giv me some suggestions? It would really help if its coming from another that has the same understanding ☺🙏🏻

      only first sem of your first year? yo it's not too late to quit though. I know your family might go mad but they would be more mad after finding out 4 years later that u don't want to pursue law at all. Hey don't worry!! try to talk to your parents about how spending another 4 years in law school without passion & work with peanut pay are not gonna be great for u and ur family. If your parents also have the misconception that lawyers gonna earn big buck, do some research of wages of physiotherapists and lawyers and explain the comparisons and most importantly, emphasize that it's your passion. My friend is working as a physiotherapist (fresh grad) earning more than average lawyers who are working in the same State (plus OT pay too !!). Not a lot of people know what their passion is, even on first year! good job!!

    Kids. Listen. It’s not abt making biggg money. It’s abt the quality of ur life. I’m 37 years old. Most of my life I’ve endured hardship as I don’t come from a good background. I’ve always had high ambitions, but I’m always depress because I put money first instead of what makes me happy. Long story short, studying law is tough, but it rewards u in many ways if u put ur mind and focus into it. Forget abt the money. It will come naturally if ur good at what u do first. That goes to any subject. Second, ur quality of life improves in time. Hard-work pays off in the long run. Dont give up. Law is a good subject provided u throw urself 100% in it.

    • @IvorXianZ
      @IvorXianZ  4 роки тому +72

      Yes I understand where you're coming from. This video is more for those people who actually has a passion on the side and chose to do law because of the stable job income etc. I agree that hardwork pays off in the long run in law (your context) but hardwork also pays off in the long run, in doing what your actually love to do (if law isn't what you like to do). To me, law and non-law jobs are almost the same in terms of stress and salary (in malaysia), and what makes it different is the passion and whether you like it or not. I don't know how to put it in words but I hope you can understand my point.. lol I also agree that last sentence 'Law is a good subject provided u throw urself 100% in it', which then again comes down to passion, whether u like it or not. Thanks for the insightful comment Ricokilla :)

So I strongly encourage you to take internships, be it in a law firm or whatever, to test the water, during your sembreaks. it's ok to take gap year and think about it. I'm a fresh grad who studied media & communications and now currently a full-timer in one of the big fives in advertising! I would say that it's honestly not worth getting a degree in communications even though it provides avenues for networking. I honestly believe it's much more important to use the time to upscale your portfolio through work + industry experience etc. applying for internships at creative/ media/ production agencies because this will give you an even better network circle. Whereas when you spend so much time in uni studying for exams, you lose time in the more important areas/ may not have the drive to attend all these networking events. Also, my school didn't organise much networking events tbh haha :P And personally, I did not make good connections (etc. school mates) during my time in school but my networking solely came from my internships which led me to my current job :) For those considering a career in media, I highly recommend building your own brand/ portfolio and get a diploma in media & comms rather than A levels -> University! It's a fast track that lands you in the same position as uni grads :) Just an honest tip!!

    • @IvorXianZ
      @IvorXianZ  4 роки тому +1

      That's very true! Internships may be a better option but in order to have internships at media agencies, they'd need to look at your university degree too like what you're doing...unless we have spectacular porfolio to show them otherwise, which if I were to choose to study law instead of mass com I don't think I'd even have time to do media portfolio. HAHA Diploma sounds not too bad for a shorter time frame than a degree! good one! Thank you for this !! :) Glad that you are somewhere you want to be !

    • @haswanizahanafi2203
      @haswanizahanafi2203 3 роки тому +4

      @@camela723 hi there! First off, it's tough because there are many things you have to memorise. Definitions, figures, law cases, provisions and acts and the list goes on and on.
      Second, the assignments. Law assignments require a lot of research and reading (the facts given have to be correct and so on)
      Third, you wouldn't have enough time for yourself. Idk if this is just me and my circle of friends but throughout my one year doing foundation in law, the students would always be busy reading, making notes, preparing answer sheets for quizzes. It is safe to say that I would open my law books everyday because there are so many things to do and you CANNOT procrastinate.
      But, do not worry too much. Going to law school is fun. Like SO MUCH fun. You'll meet your type of people. The confident, competitive type of people. Law students are very friendly and easy going. Saying that the friends I made in law school eases out my stress and all is such an understatement.
      Also you'll learn so many things. Some of the things you'd be surprised to hear. And these things are only taught in law school.
      And I tell you what. I was scared too you know. Stressed and barely had any sleep lol but my final semester result just came out yesterday and I'm graduating with cgpa of 4.0. YOU GOT THISSSS

However, I switched pathways when I turned 17, not because of the misconceptions and parents’ thoughts. It was to my understanding that due to my background, it would be a wise choice for me to pursue a humanities course to expand my qualifications for my career. Despite that, music and filming will always be my passion, and I’m pursuing my tertiary music qualifications while pursuing college. Well, the best of both worlds!

      I feel you... After watching this video, it woke me up to the reality that's hitting me hard. My parents kept judging me of the things I just wanted to do. All I wanted is to be happy yet they keep stealing it away from me and I knew from the very moment they talk shits to me, they would regret it. I knew that I AM GOING TO REGRET taking their irrelevant advice just to cut the wings I'm making. Girl, don't you dare let others manipulate you of your passion. You out of the whole world know what you want to be and YOU DONT HAVE TO HIDE IT. Be proud, FIGHT FOR WHAT YOU LOVE! Live with no regrets-- this is what I always keep in my mind all the time. I am planning to take psychology because of my passion for social science and it just hypes me up. Remember, NO COURSE is easy. Everyone gets through it a lot and it can never be changed. But with passion and love for the things you do, it'll the best thing you'll ever do to your life. They dont define you, your own hopes, plans, and dreams do.
      So go ahead, kick some butts on those musical notes and show your family who they've been judging all along. The real success is found through HAPPINESS. It's not all about the money and fame. If you aren't happy of what you're doing, DONT BE AFRAID TO CHANGE AND EXPLORE MORE! There are a lots of things in this world you can explore on, it's gonna give you a wonderful life.
      Hope you will find both happiness and success. Follow your dreams, no one's bringing you down. YOU CAN DO IT!

      yes u gotta your pass your BM in SPM in order to be a lawyer in Malaysia. Some people I know who failed BM in SPM, still have to sit for BM test to get the sijil kelayakan during Pupillage. HAHAH just work harder and make sure it's good enough to pass! otherwise it would be a hell for you because most legal documents are in Malay

    Please try other alternatives if you do not have even an iota of interest in pursuing law.
    Too many people chose to study law simply because they "do not know" what to study and that they are bad at math. Math can be learnt and mastered after taking first year calculus courses. The reason why Malaysia ranked so behind in terms of math proficiency lies within the fact that our education system places emphasis on rote memorisation and repetitive learning instead of logical thinking and mathematical abilities. Malaysians are all victims of this flawed education which is a product of our corrupt nation.
    Take engineering. Take medicine. Or computer sicnece/data science. Or even other humanities subjects. Law should never become a be all and end all solution to a lack of interest in tertiary education. The "I don't know what to study so I picked law" mentality needs to stop. Look closely at the average pay of a lawyer and the number of law firms. It is extremely competitve and does not guarantee a well-paying career, contrary to popular beliefs and parental expectations.

    Dude idk but from what I've seen good lawyers in Lebanon make bank, my friends lecturer made 500k$ on a single case and another lawyer made 800k, now that's working for corrupt people but still we can make bank here. Plus going to law school in France is amazing. Oh and I'm majoring in banking and finance and considering double majoring law.

    I am so nervous for university, cause soon in a few months i will enter uni pursuing degree in law. It totally shocked my friends since i am always more to art, but law is my parent's choice (i don't hate them). My personality are very opposite to lawyer. I hate reading, studying non stop and constant pressure. Wish me luck ;(,,,
    P. S: but I've made a deal with my parent to let me apply for police officer after finishing my degree :)
    I will finish law degree and give the certificate to my parents and I will do whatever I want to be after that,, an illustrator, photographer, riding a horse every weekend, and a uniform officer!
    Hopefully journey as a law student would change me into a better person, person whose are intelligent, read a lot of books, wise and independent.
    Looking forward to get out of my comfort zone eventhough it would be somewhere i didn't wish to.

      It's ok, your personality will change to be more of an extrovert as your grow and especially when you start working. Lawyer or not, communication skills and being vocal on things are quite important. Yessss getting into police with your law degree will probably waived some of the examinations for police officers or start with a higher ranking i guess. Wowww love how you have so many hobbies and all plan out! great future ahead :D

    • @IvorXianZ
      @IvorXianZ  4 роки тому +3

      Answer to your 1st question: law may seem fun to study but it's tedious work when it comes to practice. At least 10-12 working at an office doing something that isn't your passion will kill your soul if u hated it.
      Answer to your 2nd question: depends on which field, for criminal, mostly BM. For civil lower court cases, mostly BM because judges prefer using BM. But most of the cause papers are in BM.
      Important thing to take note: you gotta pass your BM in order to be qualified as lawyer during your pupillage.

    This is why Britain took over countries so that they can make their legal system as common law and put extra stress for future lawyers when they could have just implemented a civil law system, which would have been so much easier. Either ways, it is interesting how even in Malaysia is the same system and they have a level like Britain.
