    That saw is kicking butt and taking names. I bought a MS 250 and thought the MS 170 would be too small. I am wrong, but it was my first saw and did not know the MS 170 was that good. Nice demonstration.

    Gotta love these videos where its obvious the guy hasn't sharpened his chain. All it takes is a quick 5 minutes with a chain saw file before you use the saw each time, and that thing would go through that stump like butter.

Youre a jackass if you go and buy a $600 saw to remove a lone stump in your yard.. my cousin owns 3 stihl saws and we used his ms170 a majority of the time to fell 100ft tall 25in thick pines. People dont listen to these guys if u want a awesome throw away saw to abuse around the house i suggest the ms170, 180

    You need to learn what the proper tool for the job is, the MS170 is not designed to cut trees that size, it's an arborist style saw with an extremely thin chain, it's made for use around the house trimming branches off trees.

      Looks to me like it did a good job on that big stump...

    • @davidoakley3256
      @davidoakley3256 5 років тому +1

      @@tonyblock8648 he is right about the chain. These saws really benefit from helping it razor sharp. But, with a sharp chain it would have ripped through that stump. I disagree with the limbing saw statement. What it is, is a economy consumer saw with low duty cycle. If you were limbing all day you would burn it out in no time. I have used mine for felling and bucking birch and poplar up to 16", and cutting several cord of firewood from the slash piles in clear cuts. The ms170 is a great camp and trail saw. For most people it is good enough and an affordable price.
