If you have no experience with any chainsaw, they both are out of choice, you should better get a smaller one like the MS 261 from Stihl or the Husqvarna 550 XP
very impressed with the 572 as it is 1 horse power smaller basically, i have a 462 stihl and its runs pretty much the same in comparison as the 572 does and is close to a pound lighter than the 500i i am on my 3ed season with the 462 and have had to replace the oiler gear which was not a big deal or big cost but i have never done one on my husqvarna saws so time will tell if making things lighter if they will hold up. i personally would buy a 572xp for the fact that its 300 cheaper plus i have a reputable dealer a mile from my house and in reality if you cutting firewood the time cutting is nothing compared to the rest of the process. nice saw for sure i might try one if i can get the 20% discount on it like i did my 462.
Ive seen a huge difference in chains even using the same saw. I see that Husky even has an aftermarket bar. So hard to make a fair comparison even if the saws had the same HP. You'd have to use new air filters, new spark plugs, autotune or manually tune each saw to optimal conditions, use the same amount of downward pressure on both saws, use wood that was exactly the same with no knots, make about 10 cuts each and use an average, on and on...
There have been dyno runs that are inline with my testing. And most will pay $850 for the 572 and around $1400 for the 500i, though some dealer will price gouge. The 500i is worth the money to me, it's much lighter, and has about 10% more power.
@@Andyshine77 And no carburetor. The beauty and selling point of the 500i is not so much the power and speed (which is great), it's the reduced maintenance and ability to run at any altitude or weather condition with instant throttle response from the EFI.
500i is a pretty cool saw. Hopefully it’s not one of those things that if/when the EFI goes south it cost as much as a new saw to replace. 😓 only time will tell. Since it’s the first of its kind I’m sure there will be some tweaks to be made.
I would say can't go wrong with either saw. A friend of mine has a logging business. Most of their stuff they cut now is with machines. He has a 500i and told me it was a awesome saw.
The 660 was a reliable tank. The sad thing about the 660 was the last generation was detuned to meet emissions, so out of the box they were slugs, the early models with the dual port muffler ran well stock. The 500i is a little hot rod.
how you can comparate this saws? for a pure test of speed cut, you have to use same power and cc's... 6,8hp vs. 5,8hp, but husky now don't produce same dasplacemet in new models. nice test too.
The 462 is closer in displacement, and I have a video comparing it to the 572. Saw racers go by displacement class + - like 5cc. The main reason I compared them is because they're close in physical size and how both saws will be used in similar applications.
I like both stihl and husky, but that 500i for so many cc plus the saw is so lite, only reason I would lean towards husky is that I can get heated handles and I do like the gap heated handles, bu both are very good saws
Yet The 500i weighs 13.9 lbs. the 572xp weighs 14lb 13.6oz on my scale. This is why they're often compared, the Stihl has more displacement and power but less weight. The Stihl 462 is closer to the 572 in displacement, thought the 462 is even lighter than the 500i, yet still has better power than the 572, as you can see in that comparison video I made.
Will I have only had this saw for a few days now, so I personally cannot say from first hand experience how they're holding up. That said the saw has been on the market in Europe for almost two years now, and in commercial use they are doing well. Is it worth the cost? To a professional that really doesn't matter all that much as it's a cost of doing business. To an individual, well that's a hard one, as they're plenty of other saws that will get the job done, the 572xp is fine saw in it's own right, very robust. The thing about the 500i and the 462 is the power to weight ratio, nobody is close to the 462 or 500i in that department, and nobody else has a fuel injected saw. To those who want the best of the best, so far I like this saw, it does come at a cost however.

The 572xp is a nice saw, but they lack low end torque that the stihls have... some stihls might not be the fastest but you can been the low end of them, great video man
Have you used either of them...? I’ve had the pleasure of falling with both in north Cali reds and in southern Oregon and my experience is the opposite. The 572 has a boatload of low end compared to both the 500i and the 462. If I’m running a 28” bar in redwood i use my 462, but that saw just doesn’t feel conducive to anything bigger than a 30” bar. The powerhead is too light and doesn’t balance well, and I found frequently when it was in stock form that it didn’t have the gumption to really tear up the wood with anything larger than a 28” bar running half skip chain. The 500i certainly fairs better than its smaller brother, but the problem of the lightness of the powerhead persists. Anything bigger than a 30” bar on the 500i and it feels very unbalanced. Stark contrast is my 572, I find that with longer bars, usually a 32” or 34” bar and a half skip chain that saw just sings right along; and is very well balanced for myself personally. At this point in time none of those saws are stock anymore, all ported by the same person, and the 572 is definitely a nicer saw than my 462, and gives the 500i a good run for its money (not quite as quick though). I certainly hope that with the release of the 661 with a manually adjustable carb is a more usable saw with 32” - 42” bars because the 462 and 500i really just didn’t feel good to me personally in wood larger than 54”.

Stock vs stock the 462 has more HP and torque than the 572, in the hardwood dyno and an actual dyno. Everything else is more subjective, and to each individuals taste and application. No one saw is right for everyone.✌
The 562 and 555 are better saws overall than 572, more reliable in multiple ways with just a bit less power. The 500i has more torque than 572 by miles, @nate raymond that 500i was definitely not broken in. Check out Dyno Joe Mods youtube channel, the torque curves on the dyno tests says it all.

Same chain off the same loop my dealer made them from. The bars were different, which in my experience has little to no effect. The reason to compare them at all is because of power to weight, the 572 has less displacement yet more weight. And this is for fun anyway.✌ Are you BBR's son? Like saying goes if it isn't broke don't mess with it. Myself I'll wait a bit before buying a new computer or adjustable saw by computer. See how program holds up or if it like everything else computer stuff is always needing updates .

Plus I can get a new carb with a tune up kit for ~$20-30 and fix and tune and only charge and hour labor. The 461 may have a slight edge in torque over the 462 stock, but I would grab a 462 out of the saws you mentioned. That said "even though you didn't mention it" the 500i will stomp the others in all power categories, they're even proving to be quite durable.
I like Stihl. But to be fair, the chain style and sharpness could easily make up that time difference. I assume the chains were the exact same and both brand new? Nice cuts btw.

390xp is really a dream saw i swear its gotta be top three I've been running mine hard for almost 15 years and it has an oiled for 10 and still outperforms everybody else's saw lolon that note any day now I'll be picking it up from the shop with a new oiler pump amongst half a dozen other much needed parts lol

You really can't go wrong with any of the new 70cc to 80cc saw on the market. The 500i a much better power to weight, but it's very expensive. The 462 is likely the best all around saw for most people, loggers out west like however tend to like the 500i and 572 better.
Well I could, but the 572 was totally broken in when the video was made the 500i is at like ten gallons or more now and has only gotten stronger. The outcome will be the same, but for fun why not.👍
Every video comparing these 2 saws is almost the same. But you have to consider 2 more things. One the stihl is an 81cc saw and the husqvarna is 73cc. So you should expect the stihl to be a touch faster. Two, the price of these saws. The 500i if you can even find one is going to run 1500 dollars with a 36in bar. The husqvarna is a little over a grand. Not quite 1100. If you wanna pay 400 bucks to go 1 second faster on a new design fuel injected saw that you can't fix yourself with out a pc then go for it. Husqvarna had a deal a few months ago that if you traded a non running but complete saw they would take 150 bucks off the price. 572 for 800 bucks. Husqvarna for the win.
Everything you said is obvious. You can replace the top end on a 500i just like any saw, you can port it like any saw as well. I can get a 572xp for $800 any time I want, that's what I paid. The Husqvarna is a good saw, but the Stihl has advantages pros care about, power to weight being a big one, as the 500i has more power, yet is lighter. Many consider Stihl saws to be more reliable, and in my experience they definitely are. The cost difference is there no doubt about it, but to a pro the cost difference is minimal if you get more productivity and longevity. Now if we bring in the ms462 into this things get worse for the 572, it's lighter yet "about the same weight as a 562" has more power than the 572, and is more in line price wise to the 572, though still more expensive on most cases. I'm always am clear in my reviews and comparisons, I do them based on weight classes as well as displacement. I have zero brand loyalty, I actually prefer the Dolmar 7900 to all of these new saws, it kills the 572 in power and weight, and runs right with the 500i, and it's a 20 year old design.✌
I have a 576 and love it. I believe it was the second year with the auto tune carb when I purchased it and I have had no problems with it at all. I don't think reliability is the issue but for me Stihl should have a turbo/ air injection to save the air filter from constantly cleaning. Anyway God bless!
@@1979utuber The 576 was a pretty reliable model, some bearing failures, but overall a good saw. The 550 and 562 were the troublesome models, they were a disaster honestly. The 572 is an excellent saw and I highly recommend it. Stihl uses air injection and quite a few models, 241, 261, 462 and some other lower end models. The reason the 500I and 661 do not have this feature, is because it takes away some of the cooling air and diverts it to the carb box area. Stihl found it reduced cooling efficiency too much and would lower the life expectancy of the engine, and is the reason the lager saws "500i, 661, 880/881" lack this feature.
Husky all the way run an 8 tooth sprocket rather than a 7 and they cut much faster for the weight and displacement them make more power to weight. Easier on the arms to after a long day of felling
Overall I agree, especially with the 572, so many of the other 5 series saws had ongoing QC problems it's hard to overlook. IMHO Stihl is a more quality product overall.

This has been discussed, doing so will slow cut times, the dogs are mostly for felling and protecting the case, with a good chain there is no reason to force the saw.

The fact that a 70cc, $1,000 dollar saw is on par with a an 80cc, $1,800 saw is a testament. Also, that's not the result everyone gets. ;)

Same chains were used Stihl RS, only the bar was different, the bar will have little if any effect.

Nobody sells pro Husky saws, Stihl seems to be on every street corner. I don't know how Husky can keep up the competition.
Husqvarna has a few strong markets here and there, but most of the country is Stihl Stihl Stihl, sure especially in southern Ohio.

Well I could, but the 572 was totally broken in when the video was made the 500i is at like ten gallons or more now and has only gotten stronger. The outcome will be the same, but for fun why not.👍
Doesn’t the 500 have more CC’s? How were the chain sharpness’s? Maybe if you could swap bar and chain and use the same on both, that would be cool

My Man!! Right down to it.
Every video comparing these 2 saws is almost the same. But you have to consider 2 more things. One the stihl is an 81cc saw and the husqvarna is 73cc. So you should expect the stihl to be a touch faster. Two, the price of these saws. The 500i if you can even find one is going to run 1500 dollars with a 36in bar. The husqvarna is a little over a grand. Not quite 1100. If you wanna pay 400 bucks to go 1 second faster on a new design fuel injected saw that you can't fix yourself with out a pc then go for it. Husqvarna had a deal a few months ago that if you traded a non running but complete saw they would take 150 bucks off the price. 572 for 800 bucks. Husqvarna for the win.
Everything you said is obvious. You can replace the top end on a 500i just like any saw, you can port it like any saw as well. I can get a 572xp for $800 any time I want, that's what I paid.
The Husqvarna is a good saw, but the Stihl has advantages pros care about, power to weight being a big one, as the 500i has more power, yet is lighter. Many consider Stihl saws to be more reliable, and in my experience they definitely are. The cost difference is there no doubt about it, but to a pro the cost difference is minimal if you get more productivity and longevity.
Now if we bring in the ms462 into this things get worse for the 572, it's lighter yet "about the same weight as a 562" has more power than the 572, and is more in line price wise to the 572, though still more expensive on most cases.
I'm always am clear in my reviews and comparisons, I do them based on weight classes as well as displacement. I have zero brand loyalty, I actually prefer the Dolmar 7900 to all of these new saws, it kills the 572 in power and weight, and runs right with the 500i, and it's a 20 year old design.✌
I have a 576 and love it. I believe it was the second year with the auto tune carb when I purchased it and I have had no problems with it at all. I don't think reliability is the issue but for me Stihl should have a turbo/ air injection to save the air filter from constantly cleaning. Anyway God bless!
@@1979utuber The 576 was a pretty reliable model, some bearing failures, but overall a good saw. The 550 and 562 were the troublesome models, they were a disaster honestly. The 572 is an excellent saw and I highly recommend it. Stihl uses air injection and quite a few models, 241, 261, 462 and some other lower end models. The reason the 500I and 661 do not have this feature, is because it takes away some of the cooling air and diverts it to the carb box area. Stihl found it reduced cooling efficiency too much and would lower the life expectancy of the engine, and is the reason the lager saws "500i, 661, 880/881" lack this feature.

Stihl 500 i very very nice machin.
Husky all the way run an 8 tooth sprocket rather than a 7 and they cut much faster for the weight and displacement them make more power to weight. Easier on the arms to after a long day of felling
The 572xp makes less power and weights more. An 8 pin won't help, in fact it will hurt.

Overall I agree, especially with the 572, so many of the other 5 series saws had ongoing QC problems it's hard to overlook. IMHO Stihl is a more quality product overall.
our dealer said he sells more Stihls but has to fix more Husqvarnas, it has been that way for the past 30 years

I don't doubt that the 281 is a fantastic saw they rean real well. It is 2cc larger, so it has that going for it too.The 281 is heavier, though.✌️

How about using the dogs and getting a bite.
This has been discussed, doing so will slow cut times, the dogs are mostly for felling and protecting the case, with a good chain there is no reason to force the saw.
