    1:02:21 Jane asking 'Where's your evidence?' with a completely straight face and then catching the benny thrown from off-screen while Johnny and Mike lose it has to be the single funniest moment in the series so far.

      Jane is so effortlessly cool in this series. It's a thing I really noticed with the first target, Bad Ben Bellows, while Nate was *Nate pause* otherwise occupied; Luke's performance has me believing in Delacy as the real deal mean-eyed wildcard kid, but Jane's performance has me believing in *Jane* as a bone fide Wild West card-sharp croupier. And all without an accent!
      Every performance in this series is honestly masterful.

    Hard to pick a favourite moment, but Garnet asking, "Where's the evidence?" when accused of wearing the vest she was actually wearing probably takes it. I think she should have just kept gaslighting the 'judge', telling him his eyes need checking, the colours are all the same but they appear different in the light, etc. I wonder if they could kill this guy by just enraging him enough that his brain pops.

      Prudence is amazing...but the problem with her is that she is basically a moustache twirling Disney villain. Placed in a group of "good" characters (or at least good hearted), that doesn't give Jane much room to maneuver to really let her shine. The only reason why she gets any room is because her teammates are very careless and/or selfish with their actions. Which causes the team to inadvertently do evil things from time to time.
      Jane has taken lessons from this when she rolled Garnet. Garnet is at most capable of being selfish, but she isn't evil. All her ability to do the dark, unholy, spooky things that Jane loves to do with her characters comes entirely from her class, not her personality.
      This leaves Jane plenty of room to act, since it is just as believeable that Garnet would help an old lady across the street as it is that she would swindle the old lady out of her life savings.

    Mike fully losing the facade and laughing, coupled with Johnny's hilarious slow delivery of "S....pain!" is an absolute riot. The delivery and the sheer volume and force of Mike laughing makes the whole thing perfect. I sometimes wonder if these things are staged, given Delacy's legendary shooting of Bellows or Nate finishing Bellows off or even the fate of Senator Waxman 'melting like a candle.' But then I see moments like this and think to myself "Nah, even if the rest was staged or scripted, THIS right here was spontaneous and comedy gold." And I'm happy with that.

    I love them asking Andy questions about the NPCs and wanting deep details. Johnny's laugh at Jane's questions and Andy having to think on the spot like they make Johnny do is so great.
    Me: Well, at least they still have the TNT.
    Also me: Oh no...they still have the TNT.
    You know what the description of the town reminds me of? Columbia in BioShock Infinite before all hell breaks loose.
    "Religiosity" makes me think immediately of Firefly. I'm about due a rewatch of that show.
    The aborted "how does he smell" remark had me pausing to laugh. The "cursing" from Nate was so unexpected. I really was expecting a f-bomb out of nowhere or "shit" or something. Not, "heck", "dang", and "ninny". And all 3 being arrested is also brilliant. I love that Johnny didn't expect it either.
    I truly love how much Andy loves playing villains. Budrow (however he's spelling it) is coming across as a lot more comical than the first two. Bellows still sends a shiver down my spine.
    Johnny's expression at the wanted poster is basically me. Clutch move there. Too bad it didn't work out too well.

Really loved seeing the characters that Andy established BE those characters and CONTINUE to be those characters and not make nonsensical changes to fit the whims of the players. There is a give and take with ttrpgs but for quite some time the take has leaned towards players rather then the GM for all adventures for oxventure and etc. love all that they do but some complexity and change is VERY welcomed.

    • @alexharrison2743
      @alexharrison2743 7 місяців тому

      I do really like how Andy characterises his villains & other NPCs, and the fact that he's a stricter GM, and that his NPCs have common sense, BUT this episode kinda felt like he didn't give the players much opportunity to think/act, and rushed things along to a position from which the real adventure might then start - in BitD, they'd be dropped into the end of episode situation from the engagement roll, whereas here it felt like the whole episode was Andy trying to get the players onto death row because he wants an adventure about escaping from death row..?

    I'm currently studying game design at University and Deadlands has me feeling inspired. I kinda want to make a fan add-on for it themed around Australia. Add in some rules for being a Ned Kelly style bush ranger in Colonial Australia, add in some Australian monsters, that kind of thing.

      I don't think it matters if it has much traction if it's just for fun, and most people don't know much history or know what it's like in that era but a) they don't know much about the US either aside from wildly inaccurate movie portrayals and b) the people who are interested will learn.
      If you include a "key facts from history" and a "differences to a US western" info sheet then I'm sure it'll work, even if the attempted accents from America and Britain might be a bit OTT 😁 but if it's just for fun anyway, why not? 😊

    This bounty is a harder sell for my four horsemen of the apocalypse theory but I think it still works. We've had war and pestilence now we encounter death. Death is easily the hardest theme to portray as it's so broad and encompasses the other three. I think the idea here is that with such restrictive laws the people of this town are barely able to live a life. It's a clever direction to take it. The white horse is a slight problem. DuCrow should of had the white horse. Death should have a (fairly ambiguous) pale horse but you don't get any paler than white. Finally the name Mortimer is icing in the cake.

      In some interpretations, the black horseman is given as Law instead of Famine (since none of the horsemen are named, but he carries a set of scales, which can be spun as either weighing food or weighing crimes), so it could be that, but you're right, it is a little more difficult to make fit the theory.

Which would result in the arrest of basically everyone related to the law in the town

    • @dominateeye
      @dominateeye 10 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, that was what I kept thinking during the trial scene. This is a town full of cops and rich people, groups that both have a vested interest in publicly buying into American civil religion. Invoke the Constitution, reference the American Revolution, compare Judge Budrow to King George III, imply his tyranny is un-American (🙄), maybe threaten to get the U.S. Army involved... the jury should eat all this up. That, or they'll just double-down, which cops and rich people do all the time in real life when you point out that they're hurting people.
