This might be unrelated, but brand new R1250GSA in July 2021. I couldn't open the fuel cap. It didn't matter what I did, key, no key, ignition on or off. i read the book and tried and then tried again. I honestly thought it would be going back to the dealer for a new fuel cap when it had only done 200 miles from new. You know when a normal door lock is a little tight and you have to push or pull on it to turn the key? Well it turns out the fuel cap is the same. Tank can get a vacuum or pressure as the weather cools or warms. Press down on the cap as you lift the lever. It worked for me.I have no idea if this is in any way related to the problems you've had, but for me it almost ended in a warranty 'repair'. Good luck fella, hope it works out.
Thanks for this important video. This, with Alan B's post below address a really important question. BTW, for those who do not know: the new fob does indeed have a hole for attaching a key hoop or ring. I advise attaching that to a strap with a carabiner that you can attach to your riding pants. No lost keys. No washed keys. I'm on your side :)
Sorry I'm not getting notifications about comments for some reason. Yes I'll try tomorrow. I think I did. I can't remember now. Yea my new key just stays in my pants.
The issue is the Stainless release pin binding in the plastic housing. A small amount of Dry PTFE lube to the Pin/Housing interfaces will free it up - I suspect these interfaces will bed in over time. A smear of Dry MoS2 lube to the alloy latch upper face and the Filler neck alloy catch upper face will help free operation and assist closure After ignition off, you have 2 mins to open the cap After 2 mins, the key must be in range to open the cap If you try to open the cap and the key is not in range, you will see a red flashing light on the TFT
just went through this today on my new 2021 GSA. stopped at a fueling station for the first time and tried to open the gas cap to no avail - it seemed to be a mechanical issue, because if i pushed down to relieve the pressure from the locking bar, abracadabra -> it opened. i hate keyless anything on a bike...PERIOD
Hi As Mandengman said down there, you often have to put some downward pressure on the fuel cap with the flat of one's hand to push back against some of the gas pressure which develops. Then the little ltch will open up easily enough. More importantly, if you no longer have the remote key, the emergency-plastic key will do the same job, right after you switch off the bike. I just did it. But the fuel cap then denied me access after 2 minutes, so i had to start it up afain and shut it off to again open the fuel cap.
I also had a fuel cap that was defective. Thought I’d have to run my bike dry as I was far from my house. That was the dealers’s suggestion until one of the techs realized you can unscrew the cap and fill it. What a hassle.
Sorry I'm not getting notifications about comments for some reason. Yea a bit weird. It's been ok since. I'm not sure I ever tried with just the emergency key. I'm going to try tomorrow.
O no. Im guessing you've sorted it now? Sorry I'm on the road on Portugal 🇵🇹 so not having much time to check the comments atm. Loosen the 2 screws at the front of the cap & see if it opens.
I have just been to BMW has i could not open my petrol cap today as its the sme ekectronic set as yours. The answe is when its open look inside and there in a sencor to lick and unkock the cap. If its nit kept clean you will not be able to open it . So just give it a clean every time you put petrol in your bike. All the best Darran
Have just tried the emergency key on my 1200 and after turning off the ignition the fuel flap will open OK. Have you tried doing this with your new flap, i.e turn ignition on with emergency key, turn off, try flap.
I feel like I am regretful of purchasing r1250GSA brand new as its been 2 years now 13k kms and still having problems. a few months ago I noticed that rear brake isnt working. I took it to the service and they charged me for brake hydr replacement. which was not my fault (brake fluid was in place and full). So I guess my dream bike (it was r1150gs actually when I was kid) was supposed to be dream bike only... Good Luck with your bike hope you enjoy
O wow thats not great. I've only done about 8k on mine from new. Only had tgat issue & had a new exhaust as BMW said tge flap was sticking. I didn't notice anything wrong with it though. I hope your luck changes with yours. Thanks for the comment.
Having it keyless is actually quite convenient. All I need to do is always keep my key in the pocket. I don’t take it out unless I get home and into my pocket when I go out. In between it’s always in my pocket. Using the key means you keep moving it everywhere. From starting the drive to locking the doors. You may easily misplace or accidentally drop your key.
Sorry, I don't want keyless ignition or mechanical headlights it's just is unwanted weight and something else to drain the battery and break. But thanks for the video.
Haha yea the bike is beyond awesome. It does everything really really well. The only things that could be improved in my opinion are it should have back light switch gear, power point in top box & heated seats. I know they arent for everybody but I love it.
Nightcrawler666 Yea I totally agree with you on them points my friend. Think B.M.W. need to listen to us a bit more. Was going to change my 2018 GSA Rally but holding another year to see what they do. Keep the updates coming mate, good to hear how you are getting on with it.
What does the manual say? Glad you are enjoying your bike! i have a KTM 1290 SAS ex showroom demo for 9k less than you paid for your BMW, so we probably won't agree on most things LOL ;-) ride safe
Haha fairplay. Cool hope your enjoying that 160bhp. Actually I suppose I should say were enjoying until the Zombie apocalypse hit us all. Sorry I'm not getting notifications about comments for some reason. Yea I love the GSA. Hey we all love bikes so it's all good Bro.

Hi, thanks for the comment. Mine had a new cap as it turned out to be faulty. Its been fine ever since.

Yea I've had a few that you have to push down on a little.

Thanks. I had to have a new cap under warranty.
I also had a fuel cap that was defective. Thought I’d have to run my bike dry as I was far from my house. That was the dealers’s suggestion until one of the techs realized you can unscrew the cap and fill it. What a hassle.

It’s always mattered about the range of the key
Yes the key needs to be in range to open fuel cap. Ignition needs to be off.
Just bough a brang new GSA yesterday. Can't open the gas tank. WTF?
O no. Im guessing you've sorted it now? Sorry I'm on the road on Portugal 🇵🇹 so not having much time to check the comments atm. Loosen the 2 screws at the front of the cap & see if it opens.

Hi Darran, thanks for the heads up. Mine had thatvissue when it was very new still, but yea ill keep my eye on it. 👍
Hi is it to do with the key fob battery. Mind is doing the same at the moment
Sorry I've only just seen this comment. How did you get on?
1st haha
Those biscuits are good though, but not as good as smoked eel's.
Glad you got it sorted dude.
Read the manual. Version 2 method of opening fuel cap. Version 2 works with fob but not with emergency key cheers
Thanks
Have just tried the emergency key on my 1200 and after turning off the ignition the fuel flap will open OK. Have you tried doing this with your new flap, i.e turn ignition on with emergency key, turn off, try flap.
Sorry, I'm not getting notifications about comments for some reason. I can't honestly remember now. I'll try tomorrow actually. Let you know.
Be happy it’s working I just had mine stuck locked at gas station. Finally got it open filled it. Now it won’t close. Wtf BMW.

I hate technology. I want to turn a key to access anything. Enjoy the bike!
what is the propose of a keyless veicole if I have to carry a key in my pocket all the time?
It just saves you having to put the key in. You just walk up to the bike or car & get on or in & off you go. Pain in the ass when your naked though.
@@Nightcrawler666 Damn engineers never consider how real people will use these bikes.

Only just seen this. Sorry. Thank you for watching and commenting. I do know what you mean.
If you start the bike with the emergency key then shut it off, you should be able to open the cap within 2 min of shutting it off.
Yea that didn't work.
No idea on how the bloody fuel lock works mate but are you enjoying the bike?
Haha yea the bike is beyond awesome. It does everything really really well. The only things that could be improved in my opinion are it should have back light switch gear, power point in top box & heated seats. I know they arent for everybody but I love it.

Btw, you should have the habit of checking all your pockets before you send your cloths to wash 🤣
🙃yea I do now. That was an expensive mistake.
150-152 of the manual.
Thanks I'll take a look.
On my third fuel cap on my 1250 GS Adventurer
Wow! Really? It keeps failing?
Spider on SOS button!!!!!
I didnt notice.
