The japanese culture of mastering a skill is always mind-blowing to experience. One of the best countries that I enjoy visiting
I just wanna point out how self-effacing, gracious, & polite this British chef is!!,,, I'm truly impressed w/ his demeanor!!,,,,Thanks to all concerned.,,,,Thoroughly enjoyed watching & appreciated it to the core of my bone & soul,,,,,From California,,,,,(12/14/22)
Next time Paul visit Japan I would love to see @AbroadinJapan show him around!
Wow .. what an interesting programme! Great to have a look at this amazing culinary culture of my own country from my bread master Paul Hollywood's point of view! I particularly enjoyed the bit where Paul experienced Japanese "pan" at the oldest bakery in Japan. Thank you or such an extraordinary programme!
Less than 20 years ago, I used to watch BBC on demand in Japan. This clip reminds me those had always "Tempura Tsunahachi" CMs. I feel nostalgic.
This was so entertaining. Watched Paul in the British Baking Show.
the chef Paul is a top tier
Paul thanks for sharing ❤❤
No one could compete with Japanese when it comes to seafood. They are insanely good at slicing fishes 😢
I love Lady Beard! I saw him in concert at Saboten Con in Phoenix, AZ.
LMAO the Chinese Mos burger ad in the middle
Paul always awakens my appetite. ;)
A lot of these bakers and chefs actually go to France and other countries and study for years and bring back what they've learned back to Japan.
I love how open and warm Paul is. I liked hearing about how the Japanese specialize in one very specific thing. Not too sure about the rice bun burger.
It’s a very popular concept in Asian countries. Even McDonald’s has their own version. If you’ve had Hawaiian food, there is a dish called loco moco that’s rice, gravy, and a pattie
I secretly believe that the British and Japanese cultures embody the ultimate perfection of the spirit of Western and Eastern civilisations respectively.
Also the Moss burger commercial is Chinese not Japanese…
Didn't expect too see Lady Beard, what a nice surprise
Just a note: It's Edokko (child of Edo, the old name for Tokyo) not Eddoku. And it does not mean Tokyoite. It's not the same as a New Yorker, you're not an Eddoko just because you moved to Tokyo from LA. It's actually very specific.
Traditionally, to be an Edokko a person has to be at least 3rd generation on both sides. The term comes from 18th-century Edo-period Japan and nowadays no one takes it that seriously. However, there is still talk about "kissui (real, authentic, pure) no Edokko". Generally, today, if your parents were both born and raised in Tokyo then some Japanese might call you an Edokko.
Nevertheless, a "kissui no Edokko" person might have a harsh word or two with you if you start calling everyone in Tokyo an Edokko ;-)
There are actually several characteristics associated with Edokko such as they are prideful, quick to anger, lone wolf characters, but on the other hand, are generous with their money, witty but not argumentative, and passionate and easily moved to tears. Of course, these are generalizations and are more literary than literal. They probably come from colorful descriptions of the economically less advantaged common working-class people of Edo (old Tokyo under the Shogunate government).
P.S. Started watching and saw the mistake and couldn't resist. Please forgive me for being nitpicky. I live in Tokyo (not an Edokko) and speak Japanese so it kind of stood out to me. Gonna watch the rest as I'm a sucker for food shows on Japan (even though I live here) hosted by non-Japanese. And Paul Hollywood seems like a load of fun. Though I've only ever seen a bit of the Great British Bake Off.
Great video! From japan
This is beyondddd entertaining 🎉🎉🎉🎉😂😂😂😂
This was great!
For some weird "British people don't know the difference" reason the Mos Burger advert they showed wasn't even Japanese.
I'm seriously reminiscent of my youth in Japan,,,,(I grew up there, but moved to the USA decades ago ),,,Longing for those foods, especially those breads, in particular, Anpan, the one w/ the sweet crashed beans inside, is the most popular in Japan!! I used to have eaten it a lot btw meals in my childhood as well as my young adulthood, but it is unavailable here in the USA. This food doc. also makes me feel so ravenously hungry that my mouth is now inundated w/ the surge of my copious saliva plunging straight down into my stomach like that of the Niagara Falls!?. Gotta visit Tokyo before getting too old again!!!,,,, Enjoyed & appreciated it to the core of my bone & my soul!!,,,,Thanks to all concerned ( Btw, now I'm aware of who Paul Hollywood is,,,didn't know who he was until now,,,visited London about 2 decades ago & I loved it.),,,,From the USA,,,,,(12/08/22)
Go to Torrance CA. You find pretty much everything Japanese.
@@meggtokyodelicious Oh, yes, cause there are a lot of Japanese business men & their families residing at Torrance,,,,Also Fort Lee, NJ. has a lot of the Japanese as well.,,,Thanks for your information.

Interesting episode
Love it
Isetan is actually located in Shinjuku, not Ginza. I work in Shinjuku so I often visit. When they edited this, accuracy was lost.
Pancit Canton hahahahaha now I have seen everything
this is a great episode for people who have never heard of japan ever in their lives. this is a painful cringe fest for those who do know about japan. Sorry Paul; still love you though.
This is a great video.
Because it introduces the stores in the department store.
Many foreigners who come to Japan are introduced to sweets and bento boxes from convenience stores, but the truly delicious foods are the sweets, bento boxes, and foods from long-established stores in Japanese department stores.
Yes, they are expensive, like wagyu beef and melons, but they are grown and bred by top farmers and are very elaborate.
In addition, Japanese department store buyers are connoisseurs, and they source the best ingredients and products from all 47 prefectures of Japan, although they can get the best products from anywhere in the world.
We encourage top-notch foreigners to experience the best of Japan's finest at these slightly higher prices.
In fact, for as little as 2,000 yen, you can have a boxed lunch from a great restaurant, and there are also great confections sold in bulk for about 200 yen each.
In addition to Japanese confectionaries, there are many products that are originally Western, such as Western-style confectionaries and breads, that are much tastier with Japanese-style innovations.

Shokunin means artisan. Japanese artisan is respected among people.

melon pan is named that due to its appearance resembling a melon exterior, not because it has melon in it. that is some world class taste buds Paul has 🤐 and the British continue their search for flavor.
Lol… someone in his research team has set him up 😂. You’re right, it doesn’t contain melon.
Apparently this “cream melon” from Kimuraya use melon puree in the cream. I googled it because the cream in the melon pan looked pretty orange.

it is not fear to see Tokyo in this video.
Did i miss him eating wagyu? Wouldn't that be one of the best things to eat there too? Jw.
Great video and then it jumped the shark at 34:00. Oh well.
Out of all the Ramen shops I've been to when I was in Japan, Ichiran was the worst out of the lot.
Recently I watched his TV show,BAKE IT....Mr.James Coden made it funny UA-cam Show. British famous people visitted Japan!!
Ladybeard is funny af! Chris Broad actually talked about the karts in a recent video and how the original kart company was called maricart and Nintendo sued them for like half a mill

Even I(Japanese) dont want to eat that Face Hugger at 6:00 ... :o
btw, his conversation is looks like Jeremy Clarckson.
the eel spine looked a bit stodgy
Pancan is good for survival :)
That slight lack of cultural awareness. He should have bowed instead of shaking hands. Now the chef has to wash his hands again.
He's British -- they're known throughout Europe as being some of the most obnoxious, rude, garish, and overbearing tourists in the world. You should see the Brit population in Marbella or Sitges, Spain. They unrelentingly litter the streets and beaches everywhere. 🤭
Don't be such a snowflake. Tourist and foreigners come to my country all the time and still act within their culture frame of mind. I don't throw a hissy fit over it.
Oh, shut up
@@paranoidhumanoid it seems non genuine Japanese are more concern about manners in Japan. the most important manners are showing " enjoying" food. 😋

this video has gotten so many things wrong i cant even list them all
I am sorry, but Paul trying to peek around the booths at Ichiran like he was on an alien planet was a bit rude. I mean, clearly the point is that people (not just women as he seemed to suggest) can want a little privacy to enjoy their bowl. Taking a break from work, quiet time. I am all for social family style dining, but clearly the Ichiran concept allows people to have a bit of a moment alone with their meal during a hectic day. They do have other tables if you are with others, and the booths can separate if you with a partner. He also missed out on the ramen egg, oh dear.

Perfectionism/ KODAWARI is important to produce intricate flavors. At the same time, I am always embarrassed with how Japanese acts towards foreign visitors. She needs to learn how to interact and conduct business professionally, instead of acting like 15-year-old girl. This show is good reminder why I left home.
This is the general problem with established media production. The contrast between a lone enthusiast and a famous person visiting Japan is staggering. Most famous persons trying to dig up an interesting trip to Japan usually fails. Sorry to say this is boring with no depth whatsoever to it.
Probably the worst guide anyone could have in Japan.

Nope. Either is fine. Oishii is the correct polite Japanese. Umai is a slangier term. It would have actually been pretty rude to say umai at that tempura place.
