They used to perform this song often, mixing in new songs to keep it relevant. Theres another fifty songs just in the other performances uploaded to youtube.
What I live is in some of the more recent performances, Benny says to Jordan, "How can you not know about this? This is what the audience is here for." And Jordan responds, "I am feigning ignorance to maintain a comedy conceit."
First time seeing your channel, got here through the axis of awesome, who i love. The moment you said you like FotC, i knew you would like them. Same type of self deprecating humor. My favorite song from them is How You Write a Love Song. Fun Fact about this song... I've seen others mention how they do different versions of this song, incorporating different songs to change things up. There is a song on there you might not have heard, the song about the canvas bags. Its a song by Tim Minchin (another comedian from Australia), who played before them during this show. He played it before them, and then they incorporated it into their 4 chord song the same night, which is why it got such a big reaction. The song has been incorporated to the song ever since.
Loved this reaction Maddy, as they went through the songs realising how many songs you knew were just four chords had me grinning. I haven't seen Axis of Awesome in an age a great reminder.
Most people don't realize that most songs have 3-6 chords at most. 4 chords is the standard with the majority of music. The music industry made it so simple because it allowed them to sign more artists and make money off of them, even the 1 hit wonders. I love how these guys brought this to light in a comical way! It takes talent to do what they did!
To be fair, the human mind tends to drift towards 4 chord songs because it sounds good. I don't think it's ALWAYS about laziness, it's more of a coincidence. What they did here is actually very complicated where they matched all of these different songs in different keys and put them in the same key with the same tempo, which shows their talent. It's quite impressive. It's similar to the tempo of a song. Yes there are musicians that use unique time signatures but overall 4/4 sounds good to most people. It's more of a psychological thing imo. I do hate the music industry these days and tbh it's always been screwed up, but to discount an artist because they made a song with 4 chords is a bit disingenuous. Again, people do it so often because it sounds good to the human ear. Have the music labels exploited this? Abso-fucking-lutely. But just because an artist sticks to 4 chords doesn't mean they're not talented or worthy of recognition. There are more factors to a song than just chords. Melody, tempo, key, lyrics, vibe, all contribute and to blend these characteristics into something many people enjoy takes a level of skill and artistry that shouldn't be overlooked. It's more respectable when the artist(s) actually make it themselves though. At least in my opinion. TL;DR: music is more complicated than just the chords they use.
@@GageTheCannon Hit reply to drop a rant and you took the words out of my mouth. 4 chord songs work because they are pleasing to the human ear, and the important depth is what happens within those 4 chords. Good on ya.
David Bennet has even coined the term “Axis of Awesome - Chord Progression” for this chord progression (I - V - vi - IV) because of this performance. There is a whole video on this: ua-cam.com/video/U8ImkF7FMPw/v-deo.htmlsi=ga5MB1ADvD5vzqix
Howdy from the UK! So cool to hear the mention of flight of the chonchords 🎉. Great video, you're defo the best reactor in the room, depending on the room , defo in the top two 😀
These guys are great, and correct. All songs use the same cord to a point. Just listen to Baw Baw black sheep and Twinkle little star, they are the same song. trust me I know. I volunteer at a children's hospital and an assisted living to play for the kids and older adults on piano. I can name may more, but most cords are based on a 3 to 4 cord structure.
Many don´t realize how hard what they did here is to do, it´s not only putting random songs with those cords togethrer, but the lyrics also have to flow together and they have had to lissten and have looked through atleast dubble the amount of songs used picing together diffrent parts.
Their lead singer has come out as trans in recent years, just FYI. She went a bit viral a few years ago for suggesting a new date for Australia: May 8, because it sounds like “Maaaate”. 😊 en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jordan_Raskopoulos
For some reason the link isn't opening. Which one is the lead singer? The "chicken little" keyboardist or the one in the vest? They seem to be singing lead the most often
@@AussieKim42 Neat, thanks! Yeah idk what was happening. I'm on mobile and usually clicking links opens them but for some reason it didn't happen until I closed UA-cam and tried to reopen it. Not anything with my actual browser that it SHOULD be opening in...
I know you probably won't see my comment, but it's worth a try. There's a band called Beach House. They have great songs, but Space Song and Myth are especially noteworthy. These are very popular tiktok songs but hardly anyone reacts to them on youtube.

This version was from like ten years ago. They update it all the time, to make sure current songs are in the rotation.
Hahaha, great clip. Props to the one who requested this classic.

Space Song live on Pitchfork Festival is the best version of this song.
I like Beach House! 🤗 ❤️
Nice one Maddy! ...lol...
Nobody catches the joke where they say they've been performing for 40 years, yet are clearly younger than 40
😂😂😂
Lol this is wild
Right?!

This is the same observation as the "pachelbel rant": ua-cam.com/video/JdxkVQy7QLM/v-deo.html
4 chord songs show how sad the music industry killed musicians song writing talents for quick sellable mass produced identical items.. very Sad..
