Did anyone else’s heart skip a beat mistaking the plane in the background for scrappy with real wings? I am on the edge of my seat waiting for scrappy’s first flight!
Two very commendable gentleman. I have followed both for some time. Would love to shake their hands for the awesome way they give back to the community. Well done good and faithful servants.
I was fishing on the Lake when these two boys went missing. I remember seeing Mike's helicopter flying low and slow and knew immediately that something was wrong. So sad to hear about Jorge and Manuel. Jorge had a newborn baby boy, a toddler and a wife. Breaks my heart.
Very good interview Dan. What Mike does with all his cool builds, videos, designs, I consider his, Mark, and Cory’s SAR volunteer work the highest of character traits, aside from family, of course. Way to go fellas.
Two All-Stars in Bush Country flying but both have a deep devotion to humanity. Thank you Dan for sharing another one of their passions. I follow both of them on their own channels.
Always great full for the search and rescue teams!!! There Heart is always in the right place, even if the out come is not what families are hoping for, it does help out with closure for them, 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I was down at the air park on the other side of SLC and heard about the S&R work happening just north of us. The weather was really sketchy yesterday - not good flying weather. Mike is really a hero for getting out in that nasty weather and trying to save lives.
@@TakingOff Glad you guys missed it. We just came back and right after we got things put away, there were VERY large chunks of hail and some lightning. We must have been out around the same time.
Airline ticket to salt lake....475 dollars...... cell phone call to ranger station...dirt cheap...... to Have Mike and Cory come pick me up.... PRICELESS ! KEEP UP the great work men.... and finish the darn wings already...yer killin us with anticipation!
The quality of your shows has been really good lately Dan and Christy. Just watched this one and the crop dusters enjoyed every minute. My all time favorite was Christy with Just Plane Silly doing the jokes after the wake turbulence my side hurt the next day.
Mike & Cory both are also part of the Flying Cowboys so yes they know each other very well. Now we need Trend Palmer to also join the team who is part of the Flying Cowboys as well as some others. A Crew which goes above and beyond for Aviation and for the people on this planet.
Many years flew more SAR miles than I Drove ,1 particular sortie flying Cap Com.we had 60 Aircraft! Roll calls were STACKED on the next, That "Save" is why I did it.
I did a lot when I was stationed in Alaska high altitude search and rescue, it is really tuff in Alaska search and rescue is constant in Alaska. But funds are limited like Cory said check with local sheriff office or cap. God bless everyone out there.
Really great interview, love when the interviewer lets the interviewee talk on their own without the interviewer constantly cut them off (that unfortunately is way to common) 👍
Great episode and awesome people. If you live near a body or water (inland or coastal), look up the Coast Guard Auxiliary. We do SAR both on water and from the air using civilian equipment alongside the active duty assets. Great organization and can learn a ton flying with some very experienced pilots.
Long ago, and far away (sounds like a song title . . :) ) I was in the Civil Air Patrol. I posted something to Mike's post here on UA-cam about this video that I was pretty immature back then, 17 or 18, before going into the U.S. Air Force, and I'm very glad I never got called out on a real SAR. My father was a pilot, CFIIM and he had been teaching me how to fly, but SAR is a deadly serious thing, and getting into the crash sites, or even finding one from the air is really something for people who know what they're doing and are willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen. Would I do it now? Well, if I was medically fit, which I'm really not, yes, I would. But, today, compared to the mid 1970s, at least for airplanes, is usually a lot easier. GPS equipped ELTs going to satellites makes it a lot easier, and faster to find, but it still requires a lot of commitment, determination and effort on everyone involved in the mission. Cory, I didn't know until I saw this video you were involved, either. To both you and Mike, my deepest respects, and to any other pilot who flies SAR, you have my deepest respects.
Loved the stories! I am a huge Patey fan! Just a personal hang-up that gripes me every time, is when I hear someone say, “Sheriff’s Department!” It is a, “Sheriff’s Office,” an elected office and not a department of any other county government! The Sheriff is not only an elected official, but is the most powerful law enforcement authority in their particular county, able to supersede, if necessary, all other law enforcement agencies, including the feds! Whew!!! Thanks! I feel better. Great show! 👍🏼
Good for you guys. A classic SAR movie with John Wayne is on Amazon Prime and called “ Island in The Sky”. It’s an Earnie Gann book adaption with a host of stars and about a DC3 forced down in the Arctic and the ensuing search. My favorite aviation movie.
Always wanted to do search and rescue drones FPV to relay the different cameras back to a few TVs for people to watch. Then be able to drop supplies and a phone etc...
Fantastic! Great to see three of my favorites together. Most folks don't understand. Search and Rescue is a labor of love. I was a reserve fire captain. Happiest times of my life. No pay. I risked it all for my fellow man. In my agency, I was a senior captain, handled training for two wildland crews, and was assigned to headquarters for 18 months. Took care of 66 fire stations in what, 19 cities? Dealt with the IAFF, good guys. They wanted the department to move me to full time. I knew the department politics, and just kept on going. On fires, we did the dirty work. We put the fires to bed, ensuring we didn't have a rekindle. We dealt with the families, the crying children. We found their salvageable clothes and belongings. This was my payday. What I signed up for. Worked in ambulance duty for years. Hard times. I understand. Mike, I salute you. This comes from a man who really understands. Every hour in that 206 costs you real money. Your time is valuable, yet you simply do what needs to be done. I've spent many hours in the Huey, the 205, we had Super Hueys. In my younger days, I spent some time in the Jet Ranger / 205. I had money then, we had fun chartering those. I gave all that up for a career in the fire service. For the right reasons. Unpaid.
Excellent episode Dan. The Patey's as well as Cory and the others that join him are great people. I wish I were in a position in witch I could do the same. Keep up the great work Dan, thank you. 🤘🇺🇸🛩️🚁
Remember the majority of the S.A.R. community comes from people like us... My last 2 yrs in the Military was on a S.A.R. flight (Dope on a rope) and the local knowledge was so invaluable in getting positive outcomes. The bad ones are still with me 37 yrs on, it is well worthwhile, even the ladies manning radio's or base infrastructure.... These 2 guys are legend in my book!
I’d like to see winged drones flying in a grid pattern with high res cameras that could be live streamed to the internet. People could sit at home and monitor the feed and report back places of interest. More eyes than one or two helicopter pilots.
Dan you should have 20 mil subs. Thank you for learning so much your whole life and then share it with all of us and your students. The pilot community is full of such amazing good people.
I have thought Gyroplanes would be good for the air search as can fly low and slow. They cant land like a helicopter but they would be great for spotting from the air.
I've been in CAP since 2018. I've done two SAR sorties and neither were part of CAP haha. Both times the aircraft was found, one had a great result. Thank you to my 5 year old son / mission scanner who actually actively listened to ATC and spotted traffic sometimes before I could. May your adventures be limited to SAREX/TRAEX's (or if an actual mission may the result end well).
Now here’s my 10 cents. What I’ve seen on UA-cam of apaches doing there thing in Afghanistan. Would it not help sourcing a infra red camera. And mounting it to your chopper? Lastly, thank you for motivational videos, of what one is capable of. And thank you for helping those who are stuck between a rock and a hard place.
As a member of the Civil Air Patrol I can tell you that your local squadron always needs more people. We teach aerospace education, volunteer in the Community and provide Emergency Services to the community. I recently participated in the search for a 3 year old autistic child that had gone lost and we activated air and ground resources from across the state to assist in the search. The opportunity to save lives and bring closure to families is worth every minute you can spare. To learn more go to gocivilairpatrol.com.
Thanks to all the volunteers!!!
#1 There is nothing more satisfying then rescuing a person #2 Rescuing one of nature's beast, great or small.
Thanks to all of you involved in search and rescue!! ⛑
Did anyone else’s heart skip a beat mistaking the plane in the background for scrappy with real wings? I am on the edge of my seat waiting for scrappy’s first flight!
Glad it wasn't just me
Ohhh you got it bad pal.... lol. You have Scrappyitis
I thought it was scrappy too 🤦🤦🤦😂😂😂
Excellent video... after a tragic loss on the lake. Very sad, especially so after the two girls died on that lake 12 months before.
If you were lost in the wilderness in a blizzard you would want these guys on your side, good work fellows!
Awesome video with....Awesome Mike Patey & Cory Robin's.....Thanks
This guys have a big heart
Two very commendable gentleman. I have followed both for some time. Would love to shake their hands for the awesome way they give back to the community. Well done good and faithful servants.
Thanks to all the people who take the time to help out on search and rescue!!!
God bless all who involved search and rescue
Two of my major favorites - great guys. Their search & rescue work is a wonderful vocation. Thanks for the video Dan.
Heartbreaking.
Sad to hear. Thanks for people like Mike that are willing to serve in this way.
That was rough, the dangers of that lake needs to be communicated better it's absolutely deadly when the wind picks up
It's good to see you again Cory.
Great work Mike and Corey pretty awesome there is people like you two out there to help others in the time of need
Both these dudes are awesome people.
Very good interview Dan. What Mike does with all his cool builds, videos, designs, I consider his, Mark, and Cory’s SAR volunteer work the highest of character traits, aside from family, of course. Way to go fellas.

"Life Got In The Way" ..
At times i get in the way of life .
Recognizing the difference is or can be a good first step .
Always great full for the search and rescue teams!!! There Heart is always in the right place, even if the out come is not what families are hoping for, it does help out with closure for them, 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Something different. It’s great what these pilots do. Thank you.
These guys deserve a lot of thanks for what they do. Inspirational, and beautiful.

Cool collab Dan! Two of my favorite UA-camrs to boot! You were even shooting video in the rain! As they say, The show must go on!
The quality of your shows has been really good lately Dan and Christy. Just watched this one and the crop dusters enjoyed every minute. My all time favorite was Christy with Just Plane Silly doing the jokes after the wake turbulence my side hurt the next day.
Great work men.
Soon as I heard “it was winter” I knew what story Mike was telling.
Same here
Best episode yet! Love the Flying Cowboys and y’all being out “in the field” so to speak interviewing. Great job guys!

Another great video, Dan. You have really been knocking them out of the park! To all three of you gentlemen, thanks for all you do.
I friggin love these guys! You too, Dan & crew, for bringing us all this great content!

I still think Michael Patey should run for president of the USA!! He doesn't need to drop anything he loves to do.
Really great interview, love when the interviewer lets the interviewee talk on their own without the interviewer constantly cut them off (that unfortunately is way to common) 👍
Thanks. I’ve done my fair share of interrupting And it’s a conscious effort not to
@@TakingOff I second what Jesper said. That was an interview done right. Cheers from Australia.
Was a SAR Swimmer in USN. Fun job.
God bless you guys

This.
Civil Air patrol is a broad organization and they do a lot more in just search and rescue they train hard on that
I have thought Gyroplanes would be good for the air search as can fly low and slow. They cant land like a helicopter but they would be great for spotting from the air.
Some police departments have done just that (like Tomball Texas).

Scrappy has wings!
its a lookalike
Can you do search and rescue in a experimental aircraft or does it need to be certified?
Corey's plane is experimental
This is really interesting. Makes me want to find out more info. Would love to volunteer for S&R.
Me too.
Go Flying Cowboys
Drone pilots can also help in search and rescue
The Civil Air Patrol is actively starting to use drones instead of airplanes in some instances. They will be a major part of SAR in the coming years.
Anyone else this that was scrappy in the thumb nail?
"shirts and rescue"?
Tell Mike he might wanna clean the oil stains off the ground 🤣🤣
Umm that was some Chubby Rain that came down on us for a few minutes.
Awesome great job to help others save their Life. I don’t understand the negative votes here. Unbelievable.
So where patrol needs pilots to WhatsApp to have enough on staff eater
Geez
