- In this video we are going to break down the similarities and differences between these two diamond cuts: Emerald and Radiant. In addition to going over those nuances we will also show you different custom engagement ring designs featuring these center-stones so you can get a feel for how they look in a finished piece.
Both of these shapes have a similar outline with flat edges, cut corners and similar length/width ratios. The major difference that sets these two diamond shapes apart is the faceting pattern and in effect how they sparkle.
Emerald cut diamonds are from the step cut family meaning all the facets run parallel to each other creating a hall of mirrors effect with large flashes of brilliance. For this shape focus on a higher clarity and you can sacrifice a bit on the color grade.
Radiant cuts are from the brilliant cut family which accounts for it having that amazing sparkle that rival a round diamond. A great option for someone who loves that wow factor.
For either shape you want to focus on a having beautifully cut diamond that will maximize the sparkle and face-up dimensions.

I learned more in watching this video than I have in 5 months w/ Zales. His explanation of details and knowledge is superb
Great to hear!
"we're going to have to edit this"
(leaves it in the video) 😂😂😂
thanks for the transparency! 😂👏🏾👏🏾 it's relatable, which is a pleasant surprise for a video about diamonds
I'm not a fan of the Emerald cut (step cuts), but the Radiant is my favorite diamond cut. I love the amazing scintillation of the Radiant Cut -so much sparkle with 70 facets! It's a combination of classic and modern, and it's gorgeous!
Totally agree!
The word inevitably used for emerald cut is “elegant.” It can never be as sparkly as other cuts, but its classic reflection is the epitome of sophistication.
There is only one thing better than an emerald cut .....and that's three emerald cuts 💍😀👍
The emerald cut is beautiful--it's even more beautiful in a larger stone size. The brilliant cut just looks like pave stones to me.
I love all the examples and the hand modeling so I could see what it looked like on.
Thank you for this video because I was comparing both and we ended up with the emerald cut with a halo and pave. Best of both worlds with sparkle and flash of light.
Glad it was helpful!
May I ask why you ended up with Emerald than the Radiant?
@@rayadisurya7343 The contrast of the blast of light from the emerald goes so well with he sparkle from the side halos. Whereas the radiant I felt like it all just blended together and you couldn't see the the radiant center stone against the halo diamonds. The emerald has the different flashes and the halo had the sparkle.
I adore my radiant cut! Just gorgeous ❤️
Thank you so much for this extremely informative video! Very well done!
Gues that edit never happened lol ... great video
I can’t explain it but the emerald cut looks like water not a disco ball, with a blinged out band I think that would look so fire
exactly what i’m thinking
All your rings are beautiful!
Glad you like them!
Who is directing the model? She really knows what to do!
She is a pro!
I think I like the radiant cut more on the model than the emerald
I will always love an Emerald cut diamond. It’s elegant and classy. And with an emerald cut diamond you cannot go low in color and clarity because of the table and the facets. And imperfection on the stone will be seen by the naked eye.
I love the 2nd to the last designs which are the gentleman’s favorite.
Do you sell semi mounts?
*THANK YOU FOR SUCH AN AMAZING VIDEO ( UPLOAD MORE FOR US ALL TO ENJOY )*
We will!
Emerald cut is the best!
Amazing video! So informative and anticipates every question!

RADIANT!!!💎💎💎 100%.
Lauren B is the designer? They are both beautiful cut diamonds but radiant is...RADIANT!
this was so helpful, thankyou for taking the time to do this
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much!! The video is very helpful
I’m trying to decide between the two cuts for a three stone. 3 carat middle .7 carat sides. I worry that a radiant 3 stone of that size will clump together, while emerald will be nice and distinguishable as a 3 stone. Do you ever have clients come back saying they wish they got a radiant over emerald based on the aftercare? I wonder if people get frustrated with the cloudiness an emerald can often get from everyday dirt and smudges with such a large face and clearness -thoughts?
Not so much of that happening- but you definitely need to keep any diamond clean or else it loses its luster. Emeralds do tend to lose their sparkle easiest so it requires even more care
Do you deliver to Malaysia ? with insurance package ?
Thank you so much for letting us see the detail of each Thank you for letting us see the side by side comparison! I want the emerald cut rather than the radiant cut style! the emerald is distinctive looking! yes...... the emerald hands down!!!
You are so welcome! Glad you found the video helpful!

Is it possible to get a copy of your charts? As I am now ring shopping
Hi, Please email us for more info :)
I want to see 6 carats and up.
14:25 I like the radiant cut one on her right hand
is it possible to have this very same looking ring but within the price range of 7000 USD? what would you have to cut back on??
I think you have to go down on gold weight and carats. I guess they already use lab diamonds. If you directly source them from China or buy a Moissanite you can end up in the 1,500- 4,000$ range. Good sellers are Tianyu, east west and starsgem.
Hello Shan: Go to 23:40 & 27:43 and he will answer your question perfectly! Moissanite would be your rock of choice, and no one would know. I do not know of many jewelers who would have shared that info, so I believe that Lauren B would create a perfect ring 💍 for you……and no, I am not related to them in any way, I just appreciate their full honesty.
Give me the round cut. I wouldn’t try down the radiant either. I like sparkle over flash.
so helpful omg
Великолепно!!!
I don’t understand why to get and emerald cut if the Radiant one sparks like crazy!!! Maybe someone who wants to be more discreet? I don’t know, is the Radiant for me.
I have an emerald cut and it's just gorgeous, it feels so feminine I cannot explain it, they are stunning
Is radiant cut same as princess of hearts?
minute 27:43; what is name again for the emerald shape/cut?Thanks!
what style is that last radiant????
What an informative video! ta
Thank you for watching! Subscribe for more!❤️😍

Does cut grade matters for radiant diamond?
cut only applies for round cut, for all other cuts there is an equivalent grade called "symmetry"
The radiant does not refract light as well as a round. Radiants are nice until they get a bit dirty and then become dull.
All diamonds get dull when they're dirty. Put your ring or earrings in a baby's fruit-feeder (it looks similar to a pacifier except that it has netting to hold fruit). Hook the fruit feeder for over a spoke on the top rack of the dishwasher. Your jewelry will sparkle like new. That's what I do. I have a pair of 14k gold diamond stud earrings that are 30 years old and they look brand new.
Clean your jewelry.
That's not accurate. All diamonds will appear a bit dull when dirty. It's easy enough to clean the diamond. Radiants of very good cut, polish, and symmetry, along with a balance of cut and clarity have amazing scintillation, and with 70 facets, the sparkle is outstanding. Radiant cuts reflect light beautifully.

If you’re going to make videos for UA-cam in the name of better video quality, please also improve your audio quality. Microphones and subtitles would be helpful. I’m hard of hearing and am struggling to understand what is being said here. And for nearly 30 minutes, too.
Hi Erin, thank you for your input! I will notify our social media team!
I'm emerald varkar
Very informative, but video quality is horrible. It was out of focus a lot and made me feel dizzy and a little sick at times. Hard to watch, but a very good educational video otherwise.
sorry to hear about that! we try our best to make it as informative as possible and quick
