Here we are with the Choose a Main guide for Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising! We got the newly released sequel to the original Granblue Versus, and this video will go over the entire roster to help you decide which characters you would like to play! Loving everything I see about this game, seems just straight up fun. Thanks as always for the amazing breakdown, and looking forward to the beginners guide!
Awesome stuff. I always refer back to these videos when I'm struggling against characters early in a game's lifespan. Usually you always go over the basic day-one stuff that I keep getting hit by haha
That was insane! Did cut my time looking for characters. Once the game comes out, I'll check out 2-3 of them instead of the full cast. Never played anything Granblue, but that aesthetic is compelling! I feel like that level up sound might ring anytime. You were right, that Grappler 3 count is something, will try them out.
Loved this video as per usual! One thing I will say, I would’ve mentioned Grimnir’s install in his section, definitely something that drew me to the character (it lets him freely airdash without crests)
Great video guide here, though you missed one extremely important thing about Avatar Belial: how his H special cooldowns work. Abel has the unique trait that his H specials have significantly shorter cooldowns than the rest of the cast at the cost of draining a bit of his health, which allows him to do multiple H specials over and over again in combos or pressure where other characters would have a long wait time in between uses. This means, while he isn't the highest damage character in the cast bu any stretch, he does have some of the consistently highest damage in the game as long as he's willing to gamble his health away.
I love you Rooflemonger ❤ GBVS is my favorite modern FG and Rising seems better from the small amount of the beta I played, I hope your video gets more people to play. Also, unless Nier is incredible I think I’m sticking to Anila and Djeeta
Just wanted to say thank you for being my introduction to the FG genre besides smash. Your beginner guides introduced me to gg strive, street fighter 6 and now GFVR which I all very much enjoy.
I was sitting here watching this video, and it suddenly occurred to me how many things mechanically reminded me of Darkstalkers. The specials. The EX specials. The installs. There's a lot of Darkstalkers in this game, and that's a good thing.
An important part of playing Zeta is her j.D (the pogo stab). It can be used for safejumps and combos into itself up to three times, and you can also drop the string at any point to land and go into something else. It gives her some mixups and oki that's easy to do but tough to predict. You can also combo into it from her flying knee counter to get out of pressure or quickly cross the screen.
I remember back when I first got into fighting games, I watched most of your "Choose your Main" Series, trying to decide on which game I would want to main. To be honest I loved Granblue's approach the most being an Anime Fighter aesthetically, but also a bit more grounded like SF in terms of actual Gameplay. I was so sad to find out, that maining it wasn't very feasable for a beginner...since there wasn't really many ppl on my lvl to play against anymore... So it makes me very happy that Cygames didn't give up and just let it die - and even though I've heard about one/two questionable things - I hope this time it's here to stay for a while and gets the 2nd chance it always should've gotten! :) Thanks for your videos roofle! I love watching them, even If I don't end up playing the games, it's always fun to see what new cool/quirky moves and charakters are in the games!~
@@yowamushi6666 It has the first chapter of the story and the grand bruise mode as well so it's a good way to invite some friends who may not want to go too hard into fighting games
This is actually the first time ever for me to just go into a fighting game, pick a random character (Yuel) because they look fun and click so hard that I'm just vibing through ranked having fun like there's no tomorrow. Great stuff
I am very not used to the input style of this kind of game, im more familiar with dial in combo games. Ive been having a very good time with this game as my first entry into the series. I normally play bruiser characters so Vaseraga piqued my interest but now im thinking someone more like Zeta might be my speed. Very nice video! Fantastic!
Thanks so much for this video. There are a lot of very interesting characters and I was having trouble deciding. Think I'm gonna try out Metera. Never tried long-range character before, but we'll see how it goes.
Much love, these videos are always such a cool and interesting entryway to new fighting games and it's clear you put so much thought and effort into them!
Definitely going to use this video to help experiment in the free version of the game. I honestly forgot that it came out so I'm really excited to download it and try it out online. Also thank you for showing that it has English VO! I was really hoping that it was going to have it
Man I'm so excited to play this game again. Loved the original but struggled a lot with the subpar netcode, now they've solved that and added lots of new stuff too
Was really looking forward to your video coming out tomorrow but we were blessed a few days early hell yea. I definitely see the work you put into these guidew
I've bought GBV and never got into it, tried watching the anime twice, but this game looks really good so I'm gunna try to get in the series again. Great video, thanks.
Really great video, Im thinking about picking this game up as I love the Visuals and Character Designs. Also nice to purchase a game with a huge diverse base roster 😊
As someone whos put hundreds of hours into the character, i feel compelled to make a quick correction. Eustace is NOT a zoner. He has utility projectiles but theyre not good if your gameplan is to just zone. Eustace likes to play the mid range and use his projectiles to poke at his oppenents but he doesnt want to be too far away. His primary use for his projectiles is to condition your opponent to block at whicb point opens up his EX grenade and gives him some of the best damage and pressure in the game
Belial is THE character that got me into granblue. His mix of tricky fireballs and options that FORCE the opponent to stay on their toes is just way too fun. Good to see he only got more saucy in Rising.
1:39:21 Alright roofle, I'll be forward with you here. The reason why I'd main nier is not cause you can control a secondary character, nor cause she works her stack system in reverse but I'd main her cause this poor girl is just all sorts of messed up in the head but in a way I love my psychotic anime girls so if you don't know the lore behind her then this'll take a while but I got time. Here's the story of the emotionally volatile murderer that is Nier: Born to a family of aristocratic magicians Nier was expected to continue the family reputation of being another incredible magician as well it was all smiles and love for her, until her little sister Corrie was born. Some years later the parents started treating Corrie with administration and love that Nier once had, meanwhile Nier herself was absolutely shunned by her family and eventually her servants, this was mainly in part due to Corrie being a prodigy in spell casting which she learned 5× faster then Nier ever did. She was desperate to get her parents approval again that one day while looking through her house's attic she found a book and unlocked it to find it contained various life giving and life stealing magic and a black card, she took the card and book with her to study in private but by this point the segregation of her parents and sister had already took a toll on her mentality so when she started practicing her spells she used any boyfriend she gained as a *ahem* test subject. If you want to know how it turned out you could ask all her ex's, they should be stuffed in a closet in her hideout but anyway, after feeling like she got it nailed she returned home and showcased what she learned by draining surrounding trees to give to another tree making it bigger. Her father seemed impressed, UNTIL HE WASN'T. Turns out that book she read from was magic so forbidden that Nier's family couldn't get it open, how she did it was a miracle in of itself but this would lead to the biggest tragedy, after giving her father various note written about the books content, Nier was confined in a dingy, dark, cold dungeon as her father felt that if she continued using her dark magic in the open it'd damage the family reputation. Some months later and Nier was now hanging on for dear life but the biggest death blow came from her sister. When Corrie felt like her big sister could no longer amuse her for being abused she blasted a fire ball at her and left her to die. Thankfully the card she had finally activated after hearing her anguish and made Nier into what is known as an envoker, basically someone who has control over what is believed to be primal beasts based off the 22 tarot card symbols. In Nier's case, she became the envoker of death who sympathies with her in wanting to kill Corrie so that Nier's parents will love her again. Unfortunately when confronted them her father explained that he never actually loved Nier to begin with, he was just putting all his personal work on her to continue his legacy but now that Corrie is here he didn't need her anymore and it didn't help her mother was siding with him. So realizing her family life was nothing but a massive rejection waiting to happen she summoned death to turn the mansion into a splatterhouse with Corrie being her last victim by cutting off her legs and making her beg for mercy. (It was her birthday when this happened btw) So with no one left but death by her side, she decided she wants to destroy the current world and make a new one where she's accepted and she would've done it too, if Gran/Djeeta didn't show up. Won't go further then this cause this is long enough as it is but in the end Gran/Djeeta were able to give her the acceptance she wanted and is now willing to do anything they ask or murder anyone that tries to harm them. Yeah, Nier's still got some loose screws that need a fine tuning but this is why I'd main Nier, I love her because she needs someone there for her. I mean, if she doesn't she's more then likely going to send Death to nuke an entire town. So the next time you see her use her ultimate attack, I'll bet you 100% that's her ptsd growing up in full display. Edit: OH and one more thing, love the somewhat callback to the heroes boss fight with death. See in the original mobile game from what I hear if you fight Death and it goes on for 13 turns, she will instantly kill your entire team, no exceptions. Nice touch.
@@Rooflemonger No prob. This was the only character life story I could find sad to say, frankly I've started to become a Granblue fan for a couple of years now and I seriously want to learn more about many of these guys. How Vaseraga got his armor, who even is Charlotta, are Lancelot, Percival and Sigfried all knights of the same group and what is with Vira and her yandere type obsession for Katarina? There needs to be a youtube channel absolutely devoted to GBF.
Nier's stacks, called Love's Redemption, also appear in her playable version in the mobile game. She again starts at 13 and they go down every turn or when using her skills. She dies at 0 but the lower she is the more damage her Charge Attack (basically the Super) does so it translated very well here. But you can't fix her, I'm sorry.
Dude you're a hero for making these guides! Will you by any chance make a universal mechanics guide as well? Also here's hoping this game will have some long legs and a healthy playerbase considering it will have rollback and crossplay.

Hey Rooflemonger, great videos as always. Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising catched me off-guard. I didn't even know this game was coming. Yes. You are right. I didn't play GBVS but when I first saw Vira I was sold. Been looking forward to trying the game and Vira since Rising's announcement. Though I do feel torn on Zeta and Yuel too
some things about percival 5 stacks is max unless you do the ultimate version the H stab out of command dash if done at the right range does almost the same cinematic as the ultimate up close without dumping the stocks (it's still a lot of damage) with his SBA if you hold the button it becomes unblockable : D still good guide, thank you rofflemonger
oh and if your worried about easy inputs doing less damage, it's only in neutral, you can do easy or technical in combos for the same output of damage.

Awesome stuff. I always refer back to these videos when I'm struggling against characters early in a game's lifespan. Usually you always go over the basic day-one stuff that I keep getting hit by haha
Been refreshing my UA-cam hoping this would pop up! Thank you for these!
You're my favorite content creator rn, keep it up man!
I love you Rooflemonger ❤
GBVS is my favorite modern FG and Rising seems better from the small amount of the beta I played, I hope your video gets more people to play.
Also, unless Nier is incredible I think I’m sticking to Anila and Djeeta
Do not recomend Nier for begginers because she have some really unique things but Djeeta is perfect for begginers so recomend starting with her ;)
Great to see this so fast, amazing work! I hope it's not too much pressure to make informative content so quickly, though
Just wanted to say thank you for being my introduction to the FG genre besides smash. Your beginner guides introduced me to gg strive, street fighter 6 and now GFVR which I all very much enjoy.
Don't mind me, feeding the algorithm, I just want more people playing the game. Thanks rooflemonger!!!
Great vid thank you, you got me very excited to play! Every character looks so fun to play in this game. Vira looks like everything I'd ever want
Thanks for your videos roofle! I love watching them, even If I don't end up playing the games, it's always fun to see what new cool/quirky moves and charakters are in the games!~
you know, i'm not even sure i'm going to buy this game, but rooflemonger videos are so good that i'm going to watch this anyway
I think the game is gonna be free to play
@@kazumatypebeatthere's gonna be a f2p version with gran and 3 rotating characters unlocked. no story mode or anything tho I think
Great stuff
I love the joy you have talking about ladiva
I am very not used to the input style of this kind of game, im more familiar with dial in combo games. Ive been having a very good time with this game as my first entry into the series. I normally play bruiser characters so Vaseraga piqued my interest but now im thinking someone more like Zeta might be my speed. Very nice video! Fantastic!
Amazing video! Can't tell how much effort went into it, but it was very informative and enjoyable! Thank you!
Love the care that goes into your videos. I do think you missed talking about Beelzebub's DP, but that's a small gripe in a wonderful rundown.
lord roofle, you are an absolute godsend to the fgc 🙏🙏 thank you for your insane dedication and hard work
Definitely going to use this video to help experiment in the free version of the game. I honestly forgot that it came out so I'm really excited to download it and try it out online. Also thank you for showing that it has English VO! I was really hoping that it was going to have it
I love your break downs. Makes playing the game so much more fun.
Man I'm so excited to play this game again. Loved the original but struggled a lot with the subpar netcode, now they've solved that and added lots of new stuff too
I dont even think I'm gonna be playing this game anytime soon I just like listening to roofle talk about fighting game characters
Was really looking forward to your video coming out tomorrow but we were blessed a few days early hell yea. I definitely see the work you put into these guidew
Thanks king
Cant wait to finish watching then still spending another year tryna find a main
I've bought GBV and never got into it, tried watching the anime twice, but this game looks really good so I'm gunna try to get in the series again. Great video, thanks.
I have to watch this just for the effort my man roof put in
Really great video, Im thinking about picking this game up as I love the Visuals and Character Designs. Also nice to purchase a game with a huge diverse base roster 😊
Roofle, your videos are absolutely amazing. Vira’s been my main since she came out and I look forward to having some good matches!
Awesome work, as usual! Thank you for your service!
Here's the story of the emotionally volatile murderer that is Nier:
Born to a family of aristocratic magicians Nier was expected to continue the family reputation of being another incredible magician as well it was all smiles and love for her, until her little sister Corrie was born.
Nice touch.
Thank you for the info
Already chose a main but I just want to hear what youve got, goated vids on this for sure
Dude you're a hero for making these guides! Will you by any chance make a universal mechanics guide as well?
Also here's hoping this game will have some long legs and a healthy playerbase considering it will have rollback and crossplay.
beginner guide covering all the mechanics should be live later today
@@Rooflemonger My dude you definitely have a place of honor in fighting game heaven for all the effort and passion you're putting it, thank you so much really!
Great video Roof. Wasn’t planning on buying this game but these characters have a lot more sauce than I expected. Played the free version and it looks great too
Seriously good overview of all the characters!😊
Bane's Fighting Game presence really lives on in a hulking anime man, you love to see it
I appreciate u and the work u put into these videos, def one of fav creators
Hey Rooflemonger, great videos as always. Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising catched me off-guard. I didn't even know this game was coming. That's why I was thinking you should do a fighting games overview, since we have so many currently. Just some overview where you explain the basic game play loop. I don't have much time to play so it would be great to know what they are abour and better choose which game to dedicate myself to.
Yes. You are right. I didn't play GBVS but when I first saw Vira I was sold. Been looking forward to trying the game and Vira since Rising's announcement.
Though I do feel torn on Zeta and Yuel too
killer vid. prior granblue game never had my interest but this cast seems pretty fun. def gonna look and see if sum buddies wanna try it out with me
some things about percival
5 stacks is max unless you do the ultimate version
the H stab out of command dash if done at the right range does almost the same cinematic as the ultimate up close without dumping the stocks (it's still a lot of damage)
with his SBA if you hold the button it becomes unblockable : D
still good guide, thank you rofflemonger
oh and if your worried about easy inputs doing less damage, it's only in neutral, you can do easy or technical in combos for the same output of damage.
My 5th Choose your Main Character from roofle. Doing god's work for the FGC, especially for people like me who recently got into it around 2021
Great work man. Informative and entertaining
This was so great! I'm a Mortal Kombat player, but I really like to give this a try. Thanks to Roof of course.
I always wanted to take a look at this but living in the UK, if a game has no rollback now its torture. Finally might have found the anime fighter for me.
Love the videos Roof but I already got the conclusion...Grabby Grabby! 👐👐 Smashy Smashy 😂
I was thinking of maining Eustace but the charge inputs have been putting me off. After watching this guide I think im actually going to give Cagliostro a try- her toolkit looks really interesting!
keep in mind shortcuts are there and can bypass charge! You take a 10% damage penalty, but thats literally it
