  • first upgrade HAD to be the seat and I went with the tried and true saddlemen step up. I wanted to know though if that back of the riders seat was truly that deep and made that much of a difference. Holy **** it does.

100% agree i had the softail slim and it was useless until i put the step-up on. that softail standard with the m8 has so much potential.

Does this seat raise you up a bit too? I am 6'1" and stock seems a bit low for me.
But I think the Softail Standard is amazing.

I'm also 6'1"... being tall is awesome isn't it?!?! Haha. It did a bit. After breaking in a bit it has lowered just a smidgen. I noticed it though when I first sat on it.

Ayyy I have the same bike. Looking at the step up as well. Just cant decide if I want the diamond stitch, I think it looks slightly better, or the tuck n roll like you have. The tuck n roll looks a lot more comfy lmao. Also does the seat push you forward a little?

Have you put any exhaust on it yet? I went with some Cobra, I had ordered V&H, but they were on a 2 month back order,,,,Cobra looks great, easy install, and sounds much better then stock, but still not loud enough. So while it will be in storage for the winter, will be getting the 1000 mile inspection and oil change, putting on some Dean Speed Skinnys handle bars(12 inch)and 1st stage air cleaner with tuner. After watching many Vids on exhaust pretty sure I will be getting Rinehart slip ons, I know I don't have to get the tune done with just some slip ons but I figure as long as Harley has it there, get it done for best efficiency. I did install a 2 inch tank lift and man did it give my bike a better looking stance.
Glad you found a seat that works for you, I personally love the stock seat, to each is own. Ride safe

Not yet. Unfortunately I just don't like the stack of the stock pipes with any of the aftermarket slip ons I've seen so I'm eventually gonna go with the bassani sweeper full exhaust. Might also take off the heat shields they come with and wrap them. Don't know about after market air cleaner yet. Have plans for the lights as well. And still deciding between forward controls or just getting the bung king crash bar.

@@pattymac1114 I also considered the Bassani too, but I installed the forward foot controls on mine, now I can't seem to stay off the bike!! even bought some cold weather riding gear, and I hate the cold. For the past 10 years was waiting for Harley to come out with a bike I liked enough to pull the trigger and buy, and wasn't going to break the bank, 3 months ago seen a vid on the 2020 Standard, was at Harley 2 days later and bought mine. Installed 2 inch tank lift, black head light rim trim, Dominion axle covers, front and back, Dominion gas cap, black short stem mirrors, and moved the handle bars 2 inches forward. I bought some Dean Speed Custom Skinnyz 1 1/4 inch, 12 inch rise handle bars, just waiting for them

@@jeffstange9183 I unfortunately don't have the income at the moment to keep going with my customizing. But I wanted a Harley that I could tinker with and not feel guilty about changing but was still new and not something that I had to do engine work on. Flipping the mirrors and replacing the seat are the only two things I've done but those are only the beginning. I'm currently debating ordering some decals and then using them as stencils to repaint the oem air cleaner and the derby cover.

I recently took the mufflers off and have just been running straight pipe. I actually really like the sound of them. Especially once the engine warms up. I'll try and post a video about it tomorrow night.

Pat, I have the same bike, besides putting other parts on mine, I installed 2 inch tank risers from Dean Speed Customs, and with your step up seat the lines of your bike would set it off, its a subtle, but noticeable, and with the risers your allowing more wind to the engine helping it to stay cooler

    • @pattymac1114

I've been tempted to do a tank lift. And I know Dean speeds are super cheap but great quality. Right now I'm in a financial pickle as to what I focus on next. While I WANT a new exhaust its not necessary for me to enjoy the bike. I might replace the stock foot pegs with mini floor boards.

Yes I do love the Harley Davidson softail standard it is a beautiful bike and it is very customizable it’s just kind a hard to get parts right now have to have patience working on getting a seat so I can ride safely and comfortably and feel confident it is scary with that solo seat that they have with the bike stock but it’s not about you don’t take me out of context go see the guys at Reno Harley they are good all of them especially guys at the parts counter and John the salesman and Steven and Jeff and Marcella I’m not sure if I’m seeing her name right but you’ll know where when you see her she’s a beautiful young lady lady
