I own a 2020 Softail Standard. I love it. I’m 5’8” and like the mid controls. I put the Sundowner seat, detachable sissy bar and passenger pegs. The throttle response is great without any finagling with a tuner. It’s plenty fast for me and no fueling issues like my Sportsters. Don’t try to put a chrome sissy bar on it. Stands out like a sore thumb. Tried one then switched to black. Be careful when you thumb the right turn signal. The torque surprised me with just a tete of throttle input. It almost ran away with me once. I wish that Harley would put both turn signal controls on the left bar like my Yamaha FZ1 and any car. Small thing but that’s my only complaint. It handles better, is more responsive and is faster than the 2007 Sportster and the 2009 Lowrider that I traded. I like the balanced engine and the oil cooler, too.
Awesome bike.

I just bought a 2023 of these a few weeks ago brand new. I'm proud to be raised by 2 Harley owners, and to carry on that tradition. 🇺🇲
I traded my 20' 883 Iron for this 21' Softail! Love this bike, changed out the seat, put some slip ons on it, it's got a nice rumble added a crash bar, it's been a great bike!
Just traded my 883 also.
I'm just going to buy this for my first bike
Just bought this one for my first bike
Did you change the exhaust? I just bought a 22 and looking for exhaust
You made a smart choice! Which color did you get?
I plan on getting mine this week!!! I’m stoked!!
Congrats in advance Nick! Where are you from? Ride safe and hope you subscribe. -Tripp
I’m Riverside Ca & Thank You Tripp, I can’t wait to hit the road!!
@@nickdiaz4084 I think you’re going to love it. Let me know what you think about it after a week or so?
Hey!!! Did you get bike? How do you like it?
In opinion,
Deluxe is most beautiful bike in Harley.
But 2022 year Deluxe is no more available.
so
I got a 2022 standard.
I put HD windshield, Sundownner 2up seat, fixed sissy bar, engine guard and black box etc....
Powerful, elegant classic style, simple and easy cornering~~
I like it 😊
I agree!
Just got mine 3 days ago. Added t bar risers, mini faring and two up seat. Exhaust sounds like an old Norton, but I'm used to the screaming eagle pipes on my previous bike. On long rides, I wore earplugs. Maybe ill leave this one stock for a while. The handling, power, look and styling are perfect. After riding for 34 years, I'm impressed. I also sprung for the ABS, haven't felt it cycle in yet, but I've only put 50 miles on it as of today.
You are correct on all the Softails having the similar change to the Heritage.
17 and thinking this might be my first bike!
I had a 72 Norton for years, constantly working on it, couldn’t trust it more than 100 miles. Anyway, sold it and got a 20 st std, love it!
Added chrome air cleaner cover/top hat cover, sissy, screaming eagle mufflers, etc
Now it’s perfect!
Forward controls too, made a huge difference as I’m 6’1”.
Congratulations Chris!
i got a leftover 2023 3 weeks ago i put forward controls on mine and it made me love the bike i hated the mid controls
Bring brake pedal one spline up, and shifter one spline down. That would help. With your two other bikes having more forward set up, it's really different.
The Softail Standard is a fantastic bike as it sits on the showroom floor. Good review!
Thanks much Don! I’d do exactly as you said. Awesome bike but I might opt for the Street Bob and it’s 114. 🙂
I have a 2022. I put on a Harley Hammock touring seat, Viking hard bags and a V&H long Shots Exhaust. I am going to add a chrome air filter cover. Love the old retro SS teardrops.
I traded in my sportster for this bike, so much better in every Damn way. Funny enough I kinda miss the sportster but I would trade it in again
Haha same traded in my 883 for this miss my exhaust but that 6th gear makes Hella of a difference
@@nikkibaby111309 plus the better suspension and not having the bike vibrate to all hell when you go over 50mph lmfao. Yeah I had vance & Hines big radius on my 1200, it sounded amazing but it was way too loud
Very informative video, straight and to the point.
Harley® designs their machines with a built in "have to buy accessories to get it just right" factor.
Thanks much RB! Glad you liked the video and for letting me know about it. Ride safe! -Tripp
Always fun test riding different bike's, it's the best way to find that right bike for you, good video brother, ride safe and keep the rubber side down 👊🏼😎
Thanks Ozarks! Always great to hear from you brother.
I put fwd controls on the first week, took about an hour each side. The bike is awesome. Gobs of power and handles like a dream. Love the minimalistic display up front. I will do the usual things like airbox and pipes, whitewall tires once it is time.
That display looks really small is it hard to read it.
@@teedog2182 no, it's perfect and actually displays a lot of info. Rpm, DTE, mph, trip meter x2, clock and maybe more. Everything you need. And a fuel gauge.
I can't believe Harley hasn't come up with a better mount for the front turn signals. It just seems like they built the bike and forgot to put turn signals on it and someone said just clamp them on the handlebars. They would look a lot better mounted on the fork/triple tree area.
I agree and much prefer them mounted on the triple-tree. I had an '07 Dyna and moved them, HD offered a relocation kit. Don't see one for this model.
I bought a 2020 Standard last month, I love it. I'm 5'-7" and the mid-controls seem a little cramping, even for me. I'm jealous, living in San Antonio, you're next to beautiful riding. Here in Houston, there's nothing. Good video and very informative.
Thanks man, I appreciate it. Hope you enjoy your Standard, it’s a great bike. Where in Houston? I lived there twice. You can always go scrambling on Galveston Beach. 🙂
Clear Lake on the south side. Yes, Galveston is a short ride away, just not the most scenic. I want a Hill Country riding experience.
I have a 2021 Softail Standard also and I love it! Great bikes and looking forward to many miles! hate the stock exhaust though :(
Good commentary
Thanks a lot! I'm thinking about purchasing a Softail and I'm a little bit torned apart between buying a Street Bob and keep it as it is for a while because its price is somewhere at my budget's highest limit, or buying a Softail Standard and saving some money for the options you have mentioned (I'd add a crash bar too). Your review was so very useful.
Thanks for your video, maybe next month i'll buy one, i'm looking for my second hd.
Do you think this would be a good first bike? It's just look awesome. Looks simple and classic to me.
Yes, but any bike is a great first bike it’s what feels comfortable for you brother!!
i bought a 2021 standard today. Before i was even done signing the papers i had them putting on forward controls lol i couldn't even drive it with mids
Congratulations! You just got yourself one great bike. I would need foot forward as well. Enjoy the bike, ride safe and hope you subscribe! -Tripp
Looks like this would be my first Bike not to flashy not to dull just right
The same for me, my first bike , classic look, beautiful and sober design and handles well
Informative video, and I just bought one with the touring package!
I just like this and Street Bob! Good Vlog!
Thanks much Patxi! Ride safe and hope you subcribe. -Tripp
Great video!...nice work!...stay safe out there!😎🤙👍🤙👍🇨🇦
Thanks much Pinks! Ride safe. -Tripp
Looks phenomenal.
I tested that same bike. Coming from the dual sport bike scene, and riding dual sport bikes for the last 16 years, it was definitely a different experience, the only thing I didn't really like was the speedometer. Testing a lot of different motorcycles. I do know I want a cruiser bike. I tend to keep motorcycles for a long time so I gotta pick the right bike for me. Great video man 👌 Ride safe 🤙
Good to hear from you Biker Dad! Are you looking to buy new or used, and what all brands are you considering?
@@trippontwowheels Thanks. To be honest, I don't know, part of me wants a brand new bike, I rode a Suzuki DRZ 400 for 16 years. Yes that bike basically hasn't been changed since 2000. The bike got ran over by a truck, so now I'm test riding different bikes. All in the cruiser platform. My body can't handle off road riding as much anymore and riding a dual sport bike on Texas highway's is not the best experience. Especially with off road tires. As you know a lot of extra maintenance goes into riding a dual sport bike, especially after a lot of off road use. I had over 62k on that bike. So part of me wants a new bike, but I also want to maybe build a chopper. Like a tc Bros hardtail conversation kit. And as of right now I'm open to any Brand of cruiser bike. I actually had the chance to test a vulcan 900 custom. Really enjoyed it.
@@Bikerdad_85 Interesting. Do I remember correctly that you live in Texas?
@@trippontwowheels yes sir I do live in Texas now. Moved from the pacific northwest. You wrote interesting in your comment. What do you mean by that? By the way I am subbed to your channel 😁
@@Bikerdad_85 Where in Texas? Interesting because I also ride Kawasaki and know a good bit about the VN900.
I test rode that Standard and the Slim. Ended up going with the Slim instead.
I really like that bike and would love to get one. But financially I can't see spending that much right now. I'm still riding my old '01 Sportster that I bought new back then. It's been a great bike, but by modern standards, it's pretty crude.
So when do you get to take the Kenworth for a ride too? Those custom sleeper trucks are pretty sweet. Not very limber in town however.
I’ve actually booked a test ride for this Juvember 32nd. Looking forward to it! 🙂
Good review.
Thanks much Mark! Where are you from? Ride safe and hope you subscribe. -Tripp
@@trippontwowheels hi, from the UK. Thanks
MID controls are for me! short folks... lol
Good video 👍🏼
Love this bike! I want one
I hope you get one! Ride safe and hope you subscribe. -Tripp
You guys don´t think is too low the sit position in this bike and the street bob as well??
They weren’t for me when I rode them. I’m 5’11”
@@trippontwowheels Thank you for your answer.
Good info
What did you think of the suspension?
I thought it was very good! I'd have no problem owning the bike.
Get a ride on 2007-9 CVO springer 110 incher if you want to feel a real Harley and see what they’ll do!
Funny they call entry level
Great Review Tripp, I have been very interested in this bike. Only by the time I install forward controls/floorboards and a screen Im now at a softail slim?
True, but the Slim was discontinued in 2021. 😞
@@trippontwowheels No slim for 2022?
@@Axl_colts HD is currently in their 2021 model year. The Softail Slim is not being made this year. Last model year was 2020. Thanks for your question Colt, hope you subscribe! -Tripp
Out of curiosity, how tall are you?
If you’re asking me, I’m 5-11. 🙂
So do you like riding your Deluxe better or ?
I love riding my Deluxe, but the new M8 softails ride much better than the Twin Cams IMO.
@@trippontwowheels Thanks for the feedback. I am trying to figure out what to get.
@@dry509 Good luck! I’m here to help if you need it.
0:45 95hp no way in hell from a stock 107. The 114 barely makes 85hp.
That's a 2020
Who designs the newer Harley models? 😩
This, and maybe some of the Touring "Glide" models (if I won the lottery) bikes would be the only Harleys I would consider due to the fact that they have mid controls. Spending the last 20+ years on sport bikes, I see forward controls as a complete neutering of the handling ability of the bike.
Yeah, I know.. Harley people don't care about how the bike actually handles. It's all about the frown and how bad ass you look while revving the shit out of the motor and going in a straight line. We won't talk about how everybody's butt puckering at the sight of the first corner..:)
The Softail Standard is still on my radar as I'm getting older now and looking for a bit more comfort and passenger capability. And the mid controls which will maintain a bit of actual control and handling out on the real roads..
Do you have a email I’m clueless and have no knowledge of motorcycles and would like to ask you questions?
Yes I sure do. Email me at tripp@trippontwowheels.com.
Sorry, the like button was too far away for me.
It’s all good! 🙂
sorry to burst ones bubble, but this doesn't do much for me HD. It just looks like an old bike with a lick of paint? also whats with the tiny speedo?
🤦🏼♂️
You really should know the price of a product you’re advertising.🙄
They absolutely ruined the Softail. Small tank, no speedo...might as well buy a Sportster
IMO the Softail is still 10x the bike the Sportster is. The tank varies in size across the Softail line. Thanks for your comment! -Tripp
@@trippontwowheels I have several older Softails, love em all. Just can’t stand the new smaller tank without the speedo. Totally changed the look. I agree the Softail is 10x or more a Sportster. Thank You.
@@DJTruth_1970 na disagree, gives it a very minimal bobber look. Very old school and cool
@@trippontwowheels I disagree too, I like the minimal look of the bike.
🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
95 hp lol. more like 72 or so
Hey don't shoot the messenger! Good to hear from you Jim. 🙂
@@trippontwowheels I got a 114 with a stage 2 and i get just a hair under 100 hp at the wheel. These guys are lying to you
@@BikerJim74 Agreed. I just put up a published number. Probably should leave hp out of the equation when talking HD. Harley didn't publish the number, an independent review site did.
Not to bust your balls but, we'll maybe a little you said 1800 cc's more like 1750 cc's, big difference in horsepower. At 1818 cc's you're an S&S 111 and that puts over 100 horsepower at the rear tire or 0 to 80 in a parking lot not a good idea have done it and lived, LOL keep up the videos!
@@BikerJim74 i had an evo in 1997 with 96hp
First
Dangit! I was hoping to be first. :)
Sewing machine
No clunk when shifting!!!!!! I heard clunk when you shifted typical Harley junk
Much less clunk than ever before. If you think these bikes are junk, you either have never ridden one or you're listening to people who never have. I challenge you to test ride one. You'll be very pleasantly surprised.
@@trippontwowheels i have to agree with ya on that 1.
Harley Davidson you have lost your touch on motorcycles this is the ugliest dam bike I've seen you totally ruined what the softail was in past years just throw in the towel already and go back to making bowling equipment
