I say this with all love and sincerity. You need to redo the audio without stumbling over the words and abrupt stops and the ends of the words. We, as Orthodox Musicians have a charge. As laity can be brought closer to prayer through good singing, when we're sloppy in our execution of prayer, they can be turned off. Peace be unto you. Your brother in Christ, Dan

@@danielbrisk2884 I could not agree more. This one is one of our favorites and we are a lot better at this one now. We will have to make a new one soon. We appreciate your input. Take care.

Glory to God! Yep, these are recorded live and are unedited. The more we sing them the less we get off track. It’s a microcosm of our prayer lives I’m general. Lord, thank you for the prayers of the Church.

I’ve recently been watching many of your akathists and they are beautiful. I was baptized into Holy Orthodoxy on August 8th of 2021 (ROCOR Western Rite) so many of these I have never heard before. Please, keep up the good work, I know these chants strengthen me!

      Good Paradise to you!
Our priest taught us the Akathist. We were awestruck. Then we were so happy to learn more Akathists are out there inspired by the original. Instructive. Devotional. Powerful. Worshipful. We love them and are so happy they bless others too. These are long enough to really create a space of devotionally focused attention. May we never leave that space.
      Happy fast!

Hi there God bless, thank you for doing these Akathists, I'm new to Orthodoxy (b&b Protestant), how do I learn to sing/chant prayer? Is there any teaching available or do we just learn trial & error off one another?
    Plz forgive my ignorance.

Glory to God! Welcome the the inexhaustible ocean of Orthodoxy. May God bless your journey.
All of the above, I suppose.
For the Akathist we followed along in the text. After a while we started mumbling along. Then the mumbles got more recognizable as lyrics on pitch. Then one day we were just kinda singing them as we were going about our day and it dawned on us, “hey! We learned the Akathist!” Once you get one down the rest are essentially the same. Bingo!

Same question for me too..... If in doubt just chant it all on one single note until you can find someone to help. It would be great if there was an online resource with the various melodies. I have a two volume set of akathists and there is actually some simple sheet music at the back with the melodies for the various akathists. There seem to be various melodies across different cultural expressions of Orthodoxy. I recently chanted the canon for the repose of the departed, for a family member - I asked our choir leader in our parish, who is also Matushka, wife of our priest. She said the main thing is that you read the prayers "with compunction" and don't worry too much about the correct melodies.
