- The Osmonds are an American family music group who reached the height of their fame in the early to mid- 1970s. Currently consisting of a duo of original members Merrill Osmond and Jay Osmond, the group had its best-known configurations as a quartet (billed as the Osmond Brothers) and a quintet (as the Osmonds). The group has comprised siblings who are all members of a family of musicians from Ogden, Utah and have been in the public eye since the 1960s.
The Osmond Brothers began as a barbershop quartet consisting of brothers Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay. They were later joined by younger siblings Donny and Jimmy, both of whom enjoyed success as solo artists. With the addition of Donny, the group became known as the Osmonds; performing both as teen idols and as a soft rock band, their peak lasted from 1971 to 1975. Their only sister Marie, who rarely sang with her brothers at that time, launched a successful career in 1973, both as a solo artist and as Donny's duet partner. By 1976, the band was no longer producing hit singles; that year, they transitioned into television with Donny & Marie, a popular variety show that ran until 1979.
A revival of the original Osmond Brothers lineup in the 1980s achieved moderate success in country music, and both Donny and Marie separately made comebacks in their respective fields in the late-1980s. The Osmonds have sold over 77 million records worldwide. The quartet continued to perform through their 50th anniversary in 2007, at which point Alan and later Wayne retired due to health issues; Jimmy was recruited after Alan's retirement, with the group performing as a trio until Jimmy suffered a stroke and retired in 2018. Alan's son David Osmond performed with the group in 2019. On October 14, 2019, the original Osmond Brothers quartet reunited for CBS' The Talk for their sister Marie's 60th birthday, billed as the last appearance for the lineup. The brothers performed "The Last Chapter," written as a farewell song and introduced in 2018. Donny & Marie ended an 11-year Las Vegas residency on November 16, 2019. Merrill and Jay continue to perform and tour, as does Donny as a solo artist.
Merrill has one of the best voices in rock.
Definitely bless with a great rock voice💯
Not to mention he's a serious talent as a musician, and damn good looking!!
Yes I agree awesome song and singer, merrill
Among the greatest in history ❤ the Osmond's 😊
He sure does! He is my favorite Osmond and he is so cute 🥰
RIP sweet Wayne.💔
People hate what they can't do. These guys were very talented and could do any genre music.
How can anyone not like the Osmonds!!!
Unfortunately yes. They are so underrated
They doing a black man’s art, that’s basically what rock/pop music is, just sayin
@@jogmas12black man’s art? 🤦🏻♀️
People can laugh and joke all they want but these guys were the real deal.Merrill could sing the mess outta anything!!
Merrill.can still out sing any other artists!! I love them still 💙❤️
The osmonds are very talented they just couldn,t shake their boy band image and that,s a shame i myself would,ve lived to see them do more rock songs because it,s obvious that they're very good at it
The way they were visually presented didn't do them any favors either. Those ridiculous, Elvis jump suits detracts from their musical talents and any astute music fan will immediately assume they shouldn't be taken seriously. What's even more absurd is that outside of Donny, they're all grown men by this point and should have known better.
I thought the same as we know they were hugely compared to the Jackson 5 and where as the Jackson’s transgressed to soul and disco unfortunately the osmonds couldn’t or tried to find a alternative style such a shame
@@Dana-wq5tp Those Elvis style jumpsuits were all the rage among performers in 1972. For better or worse it was the style of the times.
It was more a case of the Osmonds not settling on a specific style to work in. They had things like One Bad Apple, Yo-You, and then they had the rock stuff of Crazy Horses. They were all over the musical map. But people in the business recognized and appreciated their talents. John Bonham of Led Zeppelin really love Jay's drumming. Elvis love them. But they weren't consistent in their styles.
@@richrogers299 And I still think it was a big mistake on their part. They weren't kids and should have made that decision on their own. My guess is none of them were too thrilled with wearing those ridiculous suits but did it because the powers that be wanted to commercialize them as much as possible. The family obviously generated plenty of money, especially Donny, but looking back, I doubt any of them would have approached their music that way if given another chance.
A awesome song, and Merrill Osmond a awesome singer, I remember in 1972, when I was 6.
Just how versatile were these brothers and merrill and outstanding vocalist
You've got that right!!😅❤❤
I love this song! I love the Osmond brothers, they were a huge part of my growing up time.
Merrill what a voice u have....More osmonds please 🙏
So incredibly talented. Rest in peace, Wayne.
I love all the songs on the Crazy Horses album.
This is one of my most favorite memories from the early 70's shows- seeing them do this live. It was incredible
I wouldn't have entertained this as a kid back then, now I'm 200 and I'd listen this 50 times before 10 seconds of anything currently in the charts.
The Mormon boy's were the total package
The Osmonds were great in the 1970s....All great musicians....
Talented songwriters and performers. The best band in my opinion from the 70s!! 🎶👏🏾💜
Those were some great shows. I saw the Karate routine by the Osmonds live in Baltimore, Maryland.I believe it was November of 1973. First time I met Donny and his brothers was in 1972. The clothing was different in 1972. In any case, they are great performers.
Is that the concert where Alan accidentally broke Jay’s nose?
@@catmac4700 It wasn't until later, but not in Baltimore, I do not remember where, though.
@@catmac4700 Really? I was surprised on how they didn´t touch each other but it looks like they did LOL
Yeah this actual performance was more like 76
The ‘70s were such a cool time , glad I was a kid and part of it . The karate is simply the business in this footage ,puts so- called health & fitness these days in the shade.
That was crazy. Crazy good!
WOW!GREAT VIDEO THE OSMONDS!!!!♡
I never saw this. They are so funny performing karate fights. They never touch each other. I wonder how many hours of rehearsal they did. But they seem to enjoy it so much. So much energy. The best choreography group of all seasons. Noone beats them.
Alan actually did connect with Jay's nose, once, and broke it.
@@lisaclarke5223 I didn´t know that! That is why he had that hook nose??
Never noticed a hook in Jay's nose. 😊😁
@@lisaclarke5223 I´m sorry, I´m not native in english, may be I used the wrong word :D I meant that his nose is different from the others.
Sounds sooooooo good Merrill.
Always loved this song, thanks so much for posting! It's been a good long minute since the last time I heard it.
This is weird…. I love it!
Thx for posting. Never got to see them do their martial arts on stage, so this was extra special for me!
Someone on UA-cam posted the 1974 T.V. appearances they did in the U.K. - On one of those episodes they perform their karate number, but they're wearing formal attire (slacks, shirts, vests). You might want to check it out. I believe it's in the 2nd show.
Translation in Spanish
It was during one of these routines that Alan accidentally broke Jay’s noise 😕. Thanks for Sharing❤
Oh my, thank you SO SO much for putting this up!!!! SO AWESOME
@Samatha I’m crying I’m upset Girls are So Mean To me
Now ‘‘tis is a side of the Osmonds that I have never seen. 😃😃😃😃
My parents bought me the Crazy Horses 8 track when i was only 9 yrs old
My sis bought it when she was 8 and I was 6. I wore it out! lol
Mega schön 😍👍💖🥰

Wow I Remember The Osmond's Brothers Thank You For Sharing !
What a voice! WOW
I love Alan
thanks kari
Thanks Alan
WOW !!! THANKS so much for posting this video !!!! You know, there are so many good tracks on the Osmond Brothers' records that rarely see the light of day, mostly because the record companies only choose a few to be released as singles. I don't know if "We All Fall Down" was ever performed in front of an audience, but if it wasn't it sure should have been. Now, I'm also wondering if you have any other videos of songs from the "Crazy Horses" album, that weren't released as singles? They must have performed several songs on the same day, at the same session as this one, so I'm hoping there are more. Thanks again !!!!!!!!!
Alan You Are So Amazing In All Your Hard Work You & Your Brothers Do I Will Always Remember You & I Was At The Osmond's Brothers Concert In Baltimore Maryland In 1972 You All Are So Awesome Thank
YOU for Sharing ❤
I saw them (only Merril, Wayne and Jimmy) in Branson about 14 years ago.....awesome show! They are all retired now except Jay? Donny, and Marie.
I saw Donny in Vegas a few months ago (September2024).....definitely a MUST see show.
Lot's of original footage of their career start to the here and now!
Glad I had the opportunity to see his show!
Merrill recorded a few videos during the pandemic. He looked and sounded terrific.
Thank You it's amazing
Elvis suggested they do karate in their numbers and they were trained by Chuck Norris
Asian martial arts were very popular with entertainers back then. But now this video looks dated.
@@deborahearle4151 definitely!
Yeah, Elvis should have stayed out of it.
Yeah and Jay got his nose broke during on of those moves.. 🤦♀️
Ed Parker
THAT IS SO VERY TRUE 👍
Thank you Ashely
I came for the rock, but stayed for the martial arts. I got a kick out of it.
Great video. 🎶🤗👏
Awesome freakin album this was
Hi We want The Osmonds I’m Kari I enjoy this song
Hi Alan Osmond I'm here with you Sweethearts
Great video, but those guys look so tired they worked so hard 💙🧡🖤💚💜
Awsome
The Osmonds wrote a bunch of GREAT SONGS. When they covered songs of other artists, they showed respect.
sure beautiful
This is great - this is from 1972 and it sounds like Peter Criss of KISS may have snagged some of that drum solo for his Alive ! drum solo
Veritably the same 6/8 groove. Peter added more synchopated elements, whereas Jay is just holding steady here.
happy for you both
taugh love
okay thank you sister
