    Hello Sir I have moderate congenital ptosis in left eye, it affects my appearance but not vision, when I consulted the eye doc in india he advised me to accept it and not to undergo surgery as it will leave scar nd many complications he said its 3mm(without measuring) nd I also have a double crease (line) on that eye(left)

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Deeksha Mathrani,
      Ptosis surgery can be done without any visible scarring, but I would have to perform a ptosis exam as shown in the video to measure how much your eyelid droops, as well as muscle function before I would make a specific recommendation. Ptosis correction surgery is highly specialized, and few doctors perform it, so your doctor may not have the experience to perform the surgery if he didn't perform a proper ptosis exam. I hope this helps you.

    My Ptosis has been ignored by multiple Optometrist hand I am now experiencing pain in the eyelid of the eye and face muscle strain in my cheek muscle under the same eye from straining to keep my eye opened all day. I hate it this condition effects me daily from headaches to driving to my work performance. My question is should I see a cosmetic surgeon or an ophthalmologist who specializes in Ptosis? I’d really like to get this taken care of ASAP.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Ty Baldwin,
      While some ophthalmologists do perform ptosis correction surgery, it is more of a specialty of oculoplastic/ oculofacial plastic surgeons such as myself, who perform cosmetic eyelid surgery, and are also trained as ophthalmologists. General cosmetic or plastic surgeons are not trained to operate on the levator muscle that lifts the upper eyelid, and will only treat the eyelid skin, which will still droop after surgery, and may cause a skin shortage if they focus only on the skin. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    They have done all sorts of muscle weakness test to see if I have a muscle disease causing my Ptosis but so far all the test are coming back negative even though I hav a lot of the symptoms my question is can I get a negative test result even if it’s positive n is it ok to hav Ptosis Surgery

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  6 років тому +1

      Hi Angelina Carraway35,
      For proper diagnosis of ptosis, you need to see an ophthalmologist, and perhaps a neuro-ophthalmologist to rule out neurological causes. Only oculoplastic/oculofacial surgeons do ptosis correction surgery, so it is important you see specialists for proper diagnosis and treatment. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Techi Naga,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. I have not examined your eyelids to determine whether this is due to compromised connection between your eyelid skin and the muscle, a problem with the muscle that lifts the eyelid, or excess or stretched skin causing hooding, so I can't recommend a treatment without knowing the cause. This needs a proper examination before a treatment is recommended. I hope this helps you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  5 років тому

      Hi Rovi Perez,
      While ptosis surgery can improve sight if the eyelid obscures vision, if your vision has been obscured since early childhood it's a different story. Visual development occurs before age 6, so if your eyelid was blocking vision since early childhood, then lifting the eyelid later in life will not correct improper visual development. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Ankur Arora,
      Sorry to hear about your daughter's problem. I suggest you see a pediatric ophthalmologist first to assess your daughter's vision so the urgency for ptosis surgery can be assessed. If vision is not affected in a child, and the cosmetic issue is not affecting socialization of a child, surgery can be delayed until the child is older with an oculoplastic/ oculofacial surgeon. I hope this helps you.

      Hi Hussein IDOL kazmi,
      It depends on who is performing your surgery, and how it is performed. However, if you watch the video closely, you can see how we evaluate our eyelid ptosis patients while they are still in the operating room, and we will show you the results in the mirror while you are still in the operating table. Temporary swelling can be mostly gone in as little as 10 days for our patients, but most usually diminishes anywhere from 1-3 months, and by 6 months be pretty close to final results, with full surgical healing taking about a year. I suggest you see a pediatric ophthalmologist, especially for your 6-year-old, as your 4-month-old has more time to address this when he is older. For your 6-year-old, it should be addressed as soon as possible because depending on severity, it can affect visual development. I hope this helps you.

      Hi @Jomood,
      I would have to perform a proper ptosis evaluation before I can determine the issue. Eyelid ptosis correction surgery treats a different anatomical feature than double eyelid surgery, so it may be possible to have ptosis correction if swelling has resolved from your previous surgery. I would have to perform an examination on your eyelids before I can give you a proper second opinion. I hope this helps you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  4 роки тому +1

      Hi,
      It is highly unlikely, but keep in mind that eyelid ptosis is caused by weakening, stretching, or detachment of the levator muscle that lifts the eyelid. While eyelid ptosis isn't likely caused by surgery, you need to make sure there is no injury to eyelid muscle from stretching or friction (eye rubbing, hard contact lens use, etc.) I hope this clarifies things for you.
