      Hi giyoh shey,
      While I do know colleagues in California, we all have different styles and practice focuses. I suggest you look for an oculoplastic/oculofacial surgeon in California, look for their expertise in ptosis correction, and look their style in their before and after pictures, and choose a doctor you have good rapport with, and a style that resonates with you. I hope this helps you.

      A difference of height of both upper eyelids of 1-2mm is normal, natural, and unnoticeable. Actual eyelid ptosis needs to be diagnosed properly before you know if you have it. Hi Dr. Prasad,
    I had ptosis surgery on one eyelid 18 days ago. It was an acquired ptosis. The operated eye lid is now 1 to 2 mm higher than the other one. My surgeon told me that I have to do massage to lower the eye lid and didn't want to do a correction surgery. Does massage really work? And how long will it take? Another ophthalmologist told me that there is still some swelling (which is not visible for me) which causes a second crease and tighten tissue, after swelling gets back eye lid should lower a little when tissue is relaxed. So massage is relaxing muscle and tissue. Would you agree?
    Thanks for your time.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Ahmet Topaloglu,
      I generally don't advise massage after delicate eyelid surgery as you can undo the surgical work you just paid a lot for. I would have to examine your eyelids and know details of your surgery to see if immediate enhancement can be done, or if it's best to wait for more healing before considering a revision. I hope this helps you.

      Ptosis IS covered by insurance. If you need to pay on a timely manner check if your Surgeon's office accepts CareCredit. This card will allow you to pay a monthly payments in the time frame Surgeon's office allows. As long as you pay monthly on time there are NO finance charges. Check it out.

      Yes, ptosis correction can be covered by insurance, but only for vision, but not the additional work for appearance. It's important to check if the surgeon's office does take insurance, as medical practices focused on cosmetic procedures like mine may not accept insurance, but we do accept CareCredit.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Magnolia14,
      Unfortunately, use of contact lenses can contribute to ptosis because of the added friction between the contact lens and the upper eyelid, creating additional strain on the levator muscle. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi @ShirjanPandey-qf9ko,
      It is normal for the eyelid to droop a bit due to fatigue when you are tired and sleepy. An eyelid ptosis examination can measure the strength and function of the levator muscle that lifts the eyelid, which is done before surgery can be recommended. Hi Ujala Aashi,
      I haven't seen if your eyelid position is affected by temporary post-surgical swelling, which could still be a factor at this time. Since I can't examine your results, I suggest you follow up with your surgeon if you have concerns. As I explain in the video, any surgeon who does eyelid ptosis correction knows that due to the precise nature of the surgery, further enhancements are needed at least on occasion. I hope this helps you.

    Hi I have watched this video again and again for months and I just had the courage now to comment on your post. I hope I get a respond from you. I wanna have an eyelid surgery because ever since I was young my family and I have noticed that my eyelids are not even. And as I grew older it got worse. My left eyelid is so droopy and my right eyelid doesn’t have a lid at all lol. I am from the Philippines so here treatments like this are rare and they can never really addressed the issue I have over my eyelids. As I grew older I started having insecurities because people would make fun of me wearing one eyelid tape on my right eye so that it looks even. At one point an ex of mine made fun of my eyes and said that I am ugly. My uncle on my dad side had the exact same eyes as me and he had an upper blepharoplasty surgery here and after just a couple of months it went back to the way it looks before he had the surgery and you can really see the stitches which made it look worse so I am so scared to have it done with a wrong doctor. Do you happen to have any clinics here in Asia? Or someone you can refer to me to really help me with my issue? I think what I have is ptosis and I wanna have this corrected. I hope you will respond on this and help me.

      Hi ms mownique,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. There aren't many oculoplastic/oculofacial surgeons worldwide, and some ophthalmologists in other countries claim to perform oculoplastic surgery, so I can't make any recommendations due to varying expertise in ptosis correction surgery in other countries. I only practice medicine in the US. Having ptosis treated with blepharoplasty is a common mistake as cosmetic and plastic surgeons are not trained to operate on the muscle that lifts the eyelid. The only way I could really help you is if you had eyelid ptosis diagnosed and operated on in our offices in the US. I hope this helps you.

    Hello Doctor ! Does this surgery work for lifetime or for a particular period??

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Seema Arora,
      It's important to understand that the levator muscle that lifts the upper eyelid is engaged thousands of times a day, so this muscle can still stretch or detach, even after ptosis correction surgery. The longer people have ptosis, especially congenital ptosis since they were born, the more likely it is they will need more than one corrective surgery in their lifetime. You can refer to this video about it - ua-cam.com/video/4FHEWqPKZMU/v-deo.html

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  5 років тому +1

      Hi Izzy,
      While there are risks to any surgery, those risks are reduced by the experience and expertise of the doctor performing them. I've personally not had ptosis patients experience the extreme complications you mention, but sometimes further enhancement is needed for over or under correction of eyelid height as it is a very precise procedure. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Sorry to hear about your problem, but eyelid ptosis surgery is something to be expected more than once since the levator muscle that lifts the eyelid, and is also the muscle treated in ptosis correction, is engaged thousands of times a day. My doctor recommended I get a sling in my eye cause I lost the complete ability to open my eye in a car accident, however he says the eye will never completely close from the sling despite me having good eye closing ability right now. Is this normal and how "open" should I expect my eyes to be post-surgery?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  5 років тому +4

      Hi Langa's House,
      Not having complete eyelid closure is a normal risk with a frontalis sling as it is a very precise surgery, so even a little variation can lead to incomplete closure. I would have to assess your situation in a physical exam to determine the risk myself. Eyelid closure is not as much of an issue if your eyeball rolls up when you sleep called Bell's phenomena, but is more of an issue if it doesn't. If you can't come for a consultation with me, you may want another opinion from an oculoplastic/oculofacial surgeon who can examine your eyes. I hope this helps you.

      Hi Kimberly M.,
      Sorry to hear about your friend, but that's not the way ptosis correction surgery should be performed. You will not feel anything during surgery if I would do it as you would bein a twilight state of consciousness as I use local anesthesia with LITE IV sedation for surgery. This way, you can open and close your eyelids while still in the operating room for more accurate results. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Kendall mclean,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. You should follow up with your surgeon as any surgeon with experience with eyelid ptosis correction knows that additional enhancement is sometimes needed because of the precise nature of the surgery,, so they should have a revision policy in place. Also, your surgeon knows details of your condition, and your surgery that I'm unaware of. Your surgeon can also physically examine you properly, while I could only speculate a number of things if I don't examine the issue. Hi jjowhal,

    I have a real bad problem. I have had mild ptosis in my right eye since birth, but I had to undergo surgery of the neck last week and have now Horner´s syndrome on top of that (sympathetic nerve damage), so my right eye lid is now really droopy, blocking my vision a little bit and looking really unattractive. What type of surgery would be possible in a super rare "double ptosis" case like mine?

      @@AmiyaPrasadMD Thank you very muc for your reply. It´s not actually a condition, it appeared right after I woke up from my neck surgery because during that my sympathetic nerve got damaged. I got a schwannoma removed, a benign tumour of a nerve, and that nerve seems to have been the sympathetic nerve, hence the Horner´s syndrome. I have already seen doctors about it and they all agree it´s caused by damage during surgery, so the cause of the syndrome is clear. My question is, how can you treat a congenital ptosis combined with Horner´s syndrome? Do bith affect the same muscle or do I have two muscles now which are not functioning properly?
      Edit: I just noticed by pure accident that Tetryzoline eye drops I used because the eye felt a little irritated have a sympathomimetic ability. After using them, my eye goes to completely normal (save a the minimal congenital ptosis) for about 1-2 hours. Would using this agent instead of surgery be an option? Sorry for all the questions!

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  5 років тому +2

      Hi PACE.ROCKS,
      While ptosis may require more than one surgery in a lifetime, it usually lasts longer than two years, but may done sooner due injury, or the weakened condition of the levator muscle. The number of repeat ptosis surgery depends on if the levator muscle can still be resected or shortened, and if it still has some strength. If the levator muscle can no longer be shortened, or if it's too weak, a frontalis sling is performed, where the muscle that lift the brow called the frontalis is used to lift the eyelids. I will make a video about it soon, although I do have an older video of people born with ptosis requiring more than one surgery - ua-cam.com/video/kqqRpJhZRJY/v-deo.html

      Sorry to hear about your problem. If your unsatisfactory results from eyelid ptosis correction were soon after the surgery, then any doctor experienced in this surgery does know that further enhancements may be needed since it's such a precise and delicate surgery, so it should have been addressed by your surgeon at the time. However, if it drooped further years later, then another surgery may be needed as the eyelid muscle can stretch or detach years after surgery. I hope this helps you.

      Hi R. K.,
      They are completely different surgeries as upper blepharoplasty treats the skin, and possible fat behind the eyelid; while ptosis correction treats the muscle. Your eyelid will still droop after a blepharoplasty, but you may end up with a skin shortage. Also, general plastic and cosmetic surgeons are not trained to treat eyelid ptosis, you need to see an oculoplastic/oculofacial surgeon for ptosis correction. Hi Michel'le Feaster,
      It has only been a day since your son's surgery, and temporary swelling is expected. I don't know the details of your son's surgery, but it may take about a month before disorganized collagen fibers flatten, for more significant swelling to go down. Temporary swelling from eyelid surgery usually takes several months to dissipate, and full surgical healing takes about a year, but your son may experience faster healing since he is very young. I suggest you follow up with your surgeon, but temporary swelling this soon after surgery is definitely normal. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Rajasree K R,
      Sorry to hear about your problem, but your pinched nerve is not a cause of eyelid ptosis. Eyelid ptosis is caused by a weakened, stretched, or detached levator muscle that lifts the upper eyelid. Diagnosis requires a ptosis exam, which is featured in this video - ua-cam.com/video/7gWSjQce3DQ/v-deo.html

    Hi Dr. Prasad, with 10 years old frontalis sling, will injecting botox in between eyebrows, forehead, or crown feet cause any issues to the repaired muscle. Frontalis on one eye only. Botox doc would not tell me and i guess he does not know. I’m afraid that it will mess up the muscle. Please advise? Thanks in advance.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 роки тому

      Hi Nadia,
      It depends on how Botox treatment is performed. In the Botox brow lift, for example, Botox is injected into muscles that push the forehead down, so the frontalis muscle works unopposed, and raises the eyebrows. However, forehead wrinkles develop sooner in people with a frontalis sling procedure because they use their forehead to open their eyelid(s), so if you have forehead wrinkles treated with Botox, it can affect the ability to raise your forehead, and open your eye with the frontalis sling. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi doc. Recently seem to have acquired ptosis in an eye. However it's also accompanied with a dull aching pain occassionally (in that eye specifically) and sometimes the feeling that something is stuck inside (for 2-3 mins) like a dust particle. Any idea what this type is called? Is it standard and correctable in the normal fashion? Thank you

      No, you won't feel anything during surgery as you are under local anesthesia with LITE IV sedation, in a twilight state of consciousness. You can be awoken during surgery so we can have your operating bed recline up, so can see the results of your surgery under normal gravity, and you can open and close your eyelids to see results. • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 роки тому

      Hi ramunniie,
      There is no success rate that applies to everyone as it depends on the severity of the ptosis, and the doctor that performs the surgery. Any surgeon experienced in eyelid ptosis knows that enhancement is sometimes needed as it is such a precise surgery.
      People suffering from eyelid ptosis usually require more than one surgery in their lifetime, especially if they were born with it. While surgery can be successful, the levator muscle is engaged thousands of times a day, every day, so surgery is usually needed again years down the road. You can refer to this video about it - ua-cam.com/video/4FHEWqPKZMU/v-deo.html

      Hi Berfin A,
      I can't say for sure without seeing your eyelids, and how you have healed from the previous surgery. I would not revise ptosis surgery if there is still temporary swelling from the previous surgery. How much time off of work depends on how the surgeon performs the surgery, and the anesthesia they use. I use local anesthesia with LITE IV sedation for my eyelid surgery patients, and they usually return to work about a week after surgery. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi@@TheBerfin252,
      Swelling does affect the position of the eyelid, and the final position of your eyelid will be determined until after swelling resolves. While these videos are about Asian double eyelid surgery, the same concept applies with asymmetry and height during healing are different from the final result:

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 роки тому

      Hi Kanika Sharma,
      Blepharoplasty is not the appropriate treatment for eyelid ptosis as blepharoplasty removes redundant skin and fat, while ptosis is caused by stretched, defective, or detached muscle that lifts the eyelid. General plastic and cosmetic surgeons are not trained to perform ptosis correction surgery.
      Eyelid ptosis can recur as the levator muscle that lifts the eyelid is engaged thousands of times a day to blink, so this amount of activity over years can loosen, stretch, or detach the levator muscle that was previously treated with surgery. A proper ptosis examination is needed to diagnose for muscle function, and what type of treatment would be appropriate for you. Hi @faithjones5946,
      It is normal to still see the incision as your surgery was done very recently. You do need to wait for temporary swelling to resolve before you can see the full results of your surgery, and whether it was successful as swelling can obscure the final results. Swelling also makes it unsafe to perform a revision surgery too soon, as swollen eyelids would make any revision surgery inaccurate. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Your operating surgeon should set up a follow up appointment schedule with you. Eyelid ptosis surgery is highly precise, and overcorrection or undercorrection are measured in millimeters, so the follow up process is very important for accurate results, and to see if further enhancement may be needed after surgery. Even the best oculoplastic surgeons do further enhancement in some cases. I hope this helps you.

      It is unlikely that your sleeping position had an effect on your results (unless you are sleeping face down, and directly on the operated area). Most of the healing takes place in the first 2 days after surgery, and after that it's more about resolving swelling. If you do have concerns, you can follow up with your surgeon who can physically examine where you are it in the recovery process. I hope this helps you.

    I had a ptosis surgery around 7 days ago and are not able to close my eye completely so far. Do I need to be worried about it or is that a normal part of the healing process? Does anyone has experience with that? Will the eyelid lower as soon as the threads are removed?

      Hi Carolin Marian,
      It's still a little early as temporary swelling is still affecting your results. If it doesn't resolve as swelling subsides, it could be overcorrection in your surgery. Any surgeon experienced in ptosis surgery knows that additional enhancement is sometimes needed because it is such a precise surgery. Your surgeon should have a revision policy in place for eyelid ptosis correction as it is the nature of this surgery to sometimes need further work soon after healing. I hope this helps you.

      Hi David Elgar,
      Ptosis correction surgery for ocular myasthenia gravis is decided on a case-by-case basis, so a physical exam is needed to determine if it's right for you. I hope this helps you.

      Hi Raj monga,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. While I would have to examine you before making a definitive recommendation, it may be possible to revise and reconstruct your affected eyelid. You can refer to this video about it - ua-cam.com/video/asw5HW0YY74/v-deo.html

    Hello doctor
    Can I do ptosis surgery and lasik same time to utilize time? Because my work schedule is busy. And please tell me how many days I need to rest before joining my work?

      Hi Dream World,
      While I often perform more than one type of cosmetic eyelid surgery at the same time, corneal refraction surgery, and eyelid ptosis correction are performed by different doctors, so they are separate surgeries. I suggest you have corneal refraction done first as the eyelid retractors used can affect work done for ptosis correction. My ptosis patients usually return to work in about a week after surgery. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Fernanda Celine,
      I'm glad you found the video helpful. You can refer to these videos on how eyelid ptosis is diagnosed, and treated; and the differences of eyelid ptosis from hooded eyelids, which is important as cosmetic and plastic surgeons aren't trained to operate on the eyelid muscles that cause ptosis:

    Hi, My father had ptosis surgery on 22nd January'22 it's been 2 weeks still there is no result how much time does it require any other procedures for speedy recovery.

      Hi Vijay Lakshmi,
      I'm not sure what you mean by "no result" if there is still temporary swelling affecting results, or if you don't see results because the eyelid(s) are still drooping. I can only give the guidance in the video about healing, but your father's surgeon who knows the details of his eyelids, and how the surgery was performed can tell you about where he is in the healing process, and how effective the surgery was. Any surgeon who is experienced in ptosis surgery knows that additional enhancement is sometimes needed because it is such a precise surgery. Your surgeon should have a revision policy in place for eyelid ptosis surgery. I hope this helps you.
