  • The Birmingham Zoo is a zoological park that opened in 1955 in Birmingham, Alabama (US). The Birmingham Zoo is an independent, not for profit, 501(c)(3) organization and is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), participating in AZA Species Survival Plans (SSP). The Birmingham Zoo is the only AZA accredited Zoo in the state of Alabama.
Approximately 550 animals of 195 species call the Birmingham Zoo home, including sea lions, zebras, rhinos and endangered species from six continents.
    Exhibits:
    Main Zoo:
    Alligator Swamp
    Bird Aviaries
Camel Rides (Spring and Summer only)
    Flamingo Lagoon
Lorikeet Interactive Feeding and Observation Aviary (only open Spring and Summer)
    Predator Building (soon-to-be Asian Passage)
    Predator Zone
    Primate Building (South America)
    Reptile Building
    Sea Lions
    Tortoise Yard
    Wildlife Stage
Junior League of Birmingham-Hugh Kaul Children's Zoo:
    Alabama Barn
    Alabama Wilds
Barbara Ingalls Shook Black Bear Trail
    The Corral
    Grandma's Back Porch
Granny's Butterfly House (Memorial Day through Labor Day)
    Granny's Goose Patch
    Trails of Africa:
In 2007, the zoo announced a major expansion called Trails of Africa. Opened in 2011, this exhibit features bull African Elephants in a bachelor herd setting. The exhibit is revolutionary because it has never been done before in a U.S. zoo to house multiple males together and attempt to replicate these bull herds recently discovered in the wild. At this time, three elephants (Bulwagi, Gadze, and Lutie) reside in the new facility. Trails of Africa includes an interactive boma yard, safari cafe, waterhole exhibit, and many more small accessories. This exhibit makes the Birmingham Zoo a national leader in the care and breeding of elephants.
After the completion of the main exhibit in early 2011, the 50-year-old pachyderm building was renovated to allow staff to provide a higher quality of care for the three Southern White Rhinos and one Nile Hippo that reside there. A new giraffe yard was added in April 2012 that allows the zoo's young herd of giraffe to continue to grow and allow visitors a closer look at the animals while on the new feeding platform.
    Boma Yard
    Kiwanis Giraffe Encounter
    Main Elephant Yard
    Pachyderm Building
    Savannah Hoofstock Yards
    Other facilities and activities:
    Carousel
Primary Giftshop (relocated to Children's Zoo area)
    Nourish 205 Cafe
    Lorikeet Feeding
    Flamingo Feeding
2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge[22] Birmingham Zoo Express/Red Diamond Express trains (track was 16 in (406 mm) gauge prior to 1976)
    Wild Burger Cafe
    Safari Peak Pavilion
    Sea Lion Show
    Tiki Hut Giftshop
    Wildlife Show

This guy did a great job. Starting when I was maybe 10, I have gone there at lest a dozen times. I am 63 now. It is a shame about COVID messing up some of the chances to see more animals.

    Awesome video Tom!
Are you ready to read? It’s gonna be a long comment!
First of all: this has absolutely nothing to do with the video but nice beard! I know you’ve had it basically ever since I’ve been watching but still.
2:24: NOOO not the reptiles! I understand why but still, I love them!
12:20: not very often the lion fish of all things is a no show!
25:10: Awesome message Tom! These animals are not here to do tricks for you, this is their home! How would you like it if I came in and starting tapping your head and throwing garbage at you? I hated that they were forced to put tarps up for the giant otter’s safety because people kept throwing trash in, jeez!
27:58: I thoroughly enjoyed the train ride Tom! Very relaxing!
34:35: This part of the ride reminded me of Polar Express, when they’re going down the hill to Flat Top Tunnel! If you’ve never seen PE, I highly recommend it, my all time favourite Christmas movie!
The rest of my comment is going to be compliments directly towards you my friend, be prepared to smile!
Your channel is still my favourite Tom, there are channels that I watch that come close but you are at the top Tom! I sometimes like to think of you as The King. I mean your videos are one of a kind, you do an amazing job! Really like hats off to you Tom! Expect to see me around until the time of this channel has come to set on the horizon! You are awesome Tom! It would be amazing to meet you in real life!
Lastly: Sorry my comment is a bit late, just I’ve been busy with my driver’s test coming up, school, cadets, family, UA-cam, just trying to juggle it all!
Take care Tom, looking forward to your reply and see you Thursday my friend! Oh and thanks for being an essential worker once again! 😃

Thanks for that bit about my beard, I just wish I didn't have so many gray hairs 😋
I was sad the reptile building wasn't open, I thought it was strange that all other building were open. Perhaps they were doing some construction updates to the building.
It really does irk me when ignorant people harass the animals by yelling or banging on the glass. They think the animals should be up moving around all the time and not sleeping.
I do enjoy the train rides as it brings out my inner child. Plus it lets me get off my feet while I enjoy the behind the scenes and animal habitats. I have in fact watched the Polar Express numerous times so I know that part you mean. It's one of my favorite Christmas movies too.
I really appreciate that I'm your favorite UA-camr. I wanted to do my videos different than others that did zoo and aquarium vids. I made my tours complete, they showed everything that the property has to offer. I always enjoy your comments, Thank You Noah 🙂

I don't know if you got a change to talk with anyone there. But the Birmingham Zoo has a bachelor herd. Where young males can come and learn to be an adult from Bulwagi. Before they go off to other zoos for breeding. This is the only African bull herd in the US. And Denver has the only Asian bull herd. They have already moved 3 elephants out. Filming the locations takes much more time than what is shown in the videos you see on my channel. As you know from my videos I try to get the best shots of the animals, going back multiple times to get the best view. I am usually looking through my cameras screen so I don't always notice things that viewers notice. The editing process is time consuming, I work a few hours after work each night.
